  • The jingle dress originated when a young girl fell ill and her father saw a special dress in a dream. Brenda Child, Ojibwe author and historian, believes that this beautiful traditional garment sprung out of the Spanish influenza epidemic. Join dressmaker Jennie Kappenman to learn more about today's jingle dresses and see her wear a dress that's on display at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Thank you for telling of the story of the jingle dance and about the dress. I notice in groups that I've joined wanting to learn that there's not very much in the way of communication or conversation where people can learn from. Even in drumming while singing I've asked what is the song about? Seems like no one wants to.give even a lose idea of what's being sung about and personally it seems to me that people from everywhere drums and song and dance are so central in every day. I don't know having a hard time expressing myself.
