Why are we caught up with skin color? I mean in this show mermaids exist and they have bright red natural hair! Maybe skin color works differently for merful?

because there is a rule that says that unless race is an important part to the character or plot (which it is not) then you simple ignore the race of the prospective actors and cast based on who would be the best for that particular part
