  • I managed to finally tick an item off of my AVGeek bucket list - trying out Qatar Airways flagship Qsuite product on one of their longer routes - 15 1/2 hours from Los Angeles to Doha onboard one of their Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
    Although this trip was originally booked on one of their Airbus A350-1000, the equipment change didn't diminish my enjoyment, and this turned out to be an incredible flight. So, if you're interested in seeing how I managed to survive on this ULTRA LONG-HAUL flight, then come along with me, and explore the delights of service onboard one of the best business-class products in the sky.

      Hi Bev - glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for leaving me a comment. Crikey - that's a long way to get to LAX (but I'm assuming there's a reason behind your choice of route). You'll certainly get plenty of time to enjoy the hard products onboard, and I would be surprised if you even feel any difference in the rear facing seat, other than at take-off (as the acceleration will be pushing you forward slightly, rather than back into you chair). I've flown rear facing with BA and Qatar (and on a few ATR 42s in the past) - never been an issue for me. Hope you have a great flight!

      @GLAFly  Год назад +1

      Thanks Stephen. Ooh - Auckland is on my list to visit at some point in the future, so I'm quite envious - you'll certainly get a chance to enjoy yourself with such a long flight. Only advice I have is just to relax and enjoy - its a great seat and you'll be well looked after onboard. The lounge at Doha is fantastic, so you'll get a good chance to freshen up in between flights (assuming you have a few hours between connections). Keep an eye out on your DOH-AKL leg as you'll be able to pre-select your meal choice for that flight a few weeks before the flight. Where are you flying from - is it Heathrow?

    • @stephenhackles46
      @stephenhackles46 Год назад +1

      @@GLAFly I've opted for a longer layover (about 7-8 hours) to experience the lounge at Doha and, to prevent any disasters with connecting flights in case of delays. I will be flying out of Heathrow, I'm not sure on lounge access there if you have any experience?

    • @GLAFly
      @GLAFly  Год назад +1

      @@stephenhackles46 I had an 8 hour layover on this journey too - will give you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the lounge. I'll have a video out soon covering my Doha to Dublin flight which includes a review of the lounge (its huge), so you might find that useful. I haven't flown with them via Heathrow but I believe their lounge at Heathrow is meant to be quite good.

    Such a thorough review, and very enjoyable too. I learned a few things in this video…
    1. I have no desire to travel through LAX (never been), and particularly the Tom Bradley terminal. It looks like purgatory.
    2. Yay, fellow Soundcore enthusiast! The Life Q35 is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I’m definitely going to look into getting that transmitter.
    3. New life motto from Qatar - Chocolate is happiness you can eat. Yes, yes it is.
    Brilliant stuff! Lyny x

    • @GLAFly
      @GLAFly  Год назад +1

      Thanks Lyny - glad you enjoyed the video. To be fair, TBIT was actually not bad (although i'll admit that security was a dream thanks to my TSA Pre-Check having been approved a few days prior, and actually being on my Qatar BP!). I found security here a lot more pleasant than T4, for example (although T6 is still my favorite - they are just so chilled out in there). I'd rate the experience at TBIT ahead of LHR T5 (if you remove First Wing from the equation) in terms of experience. Haven't tried the Q35 - i've got the Q20+ which they no longer make, but we recently got my youngest the Q30 and they loved it.
      The AirFly bluetooth dongle is awesome - saves cables getting in the way (you just have to watch where the headphone jack is on the seat though - nearly snapped it a couple of times on the older style BA seats in Club World). I think mine is the Duo, and has a batter that will go for about 20 hours, so it's great for long trips.
      The chocs were lush too - needless to say they didn't last very long after appearing....

    • @GLAFly
      @GLAFly  10 месяцев назад

      @@mattgoldberg8578 That's a very subjective question 🤔. If you're on the same type of aircraft (the 777-300), then you'll be more side-on with your view of the engine and wing, so it might be worth moving - depends how much time you are going to be looking out the window. The other advantage to moving to 8K is that you can stand up and see your wife if you are trying to catch her attention - not sure how easy that is with the back to back arrangement of the 9J/10K config. As with all things, it's down to personal preference - but always keep in mind that Qatar might do an equipment swap - and if it's on the LAX route, then they frequently use the A350-1000 aircraft, so your wing view might end up different anyway. I'm sure it will be a great flight either way!
