I have a handful of audiophile grade headphones from 50-800$ but the 99 classics are my daily "fun" pair of headphones. They're the pair I give everyone to try first. They're sleek, look professional and fit in with my corporate office environment. My coworkers love how they look and my superiors don't mind me wearing them during work as they look professional lol. Great channel!
I love your video, your concern for objectivity, the nuances you make, etc. This helps me a lot regarding whether or not to buy these headphones. I only have one interrogative criticism: talking about the comfort, light or tight, of headphones while keeping your cap on your head (you are not the only one who does this of course) appears to be a total contradiction. To see how headphones fit your head, putting on a cap makes your verdict very relative. I have never seen a European RUclips tester evaluate the material feel of a headset by keeping a cap between the head and the earbuds. On the other hand, I am like you, I think that online stores like Amazon often sell us headphones that have already been used 80% of the time, so it is very difficult to be able to get high quality headphones because there are very few real stores (on the street) that sell them.
This seems like a good complement to the HD560S. They can be fatiguing and not good for relaxing when tired. They also clamp so hard out of the box I got headaches. I used that box to stretch them out and now they are comfortable. Looking forward to getting them in.
Great video and thank you for the mic test. Any suggestions for a mic to pair with these. Looking for that end of a long work week music session, but also want to game.
I just bought this during the amazon sale event, got a good deal. Regarding amazon my dac which I paid for as a new item 3 months ago was a return from a previous customer, I had to call amazon to rectify the issue. that third party I bought it from denied it was used. good thing amazon customer service is great.
You should get the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin pads for the Meze 99 and re-review this. Those pads make a serious improvement on sound and the sheepskin is much more comfortable than the PU leather on the stock pads.
I really enjoy your videos. Can you recommend a headphone around $500. I would prefer it to be a little under. I am looking at the senheisser hd660s2, hd650, hd600, hifiman edition xs. I already have the hd560s, hifiman he400se, harmonicdyne Athena, pc38x, h6pro open, game one, SS Nova pro wired, audeze Penrose. Using ifi Zen air can and air dac, for gaming dacs nova pro dac, sound blaster gc7, and the g6. I am looking for something warm, smooth, clear, with good soundstage and imaging.
Awesome. I will start researching that. I appreciate the insanely fast response! With the detailed quality work you do, the great editing, and understanding of your audience, you will have a million subs soon, and on and on and on. Looking forward to the content that will get you there.
@@GadgetryTech Is the 109 as good or better than the VZR overall? Trying to figure out what's best around this price point primarily for PC gaming and will purchase a stand alone mic. So much to learn and so many options and differing opinions. It gets a bit overwhelming
@@Lockke_ VZR is definitely still up there for gaming as a closed back headphone. If you can go with an open back, the Sennheiser 650 is amazing as well. Even the less expensive 560S is great for gaming but the clamp force is pretty strong to me.
Hello, great video! In your opinion, please tell me which overhead headphones to take for listening to such genres as Hip-Hop and its branches and EDM within $500?
Age is irrelevant. Older models are often better built. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD25 which I've had since I was 18. I was a professional DJ for many years and there is NOTHING better. I am now 42 and they still work. I've replaced cables 4 times, but earpads far often given my use case - when you're using them for hours in a sweaty, humid intimate venue, you can't expect them to last. The main unit is absolutely indestructible, they sound fantastic, with phenomenal warm analogue bass. My Arctis Pro with gamedac didn't last 3 years - like most modern electronics, they're made as a disposable product.
@@soulfulfool sounds like you've never tried a pair of Sennheiser HD25s. They're still the brands biggest selling headphones of all time & they haven't changed anything about the tech since they were first made over 30 years ago. Also sounds you don't know much about sound in general. Some of the best sounding, most expensive & sought after sound systems are analogue systems from the 70s. You won't get that warm sound with speakers today and they generally - unlike most electronics built today - are build to last. Keep up.

Amazon constantly rebox returned stuff as new. Do not shop with them for any high end equipment. Also, these aren't old. My 27 year old Grados and 21 year old AKGs are old. And they're still glorious. I may check these out.
Since nobody has mentioned it, the history behind Meze 99 is actually scummy. There was a long detailed comment on reddit mentioning about Meze apparently buying out and copying with a similar name. I'm not sure what it was exactly but it can be likely looked up seemingly.
What a gem of a channel you have here. Found it when researching gaming headsets, stayed for the general knowledge you share about sound and devices.
Thanks so much Rick! Sorry I missed this comment a while back!

If you get a good deal and they work/are in good shape, then that's great! Yeah at least Amazon takes care if you in most cases.
