- Emma tells us how she made sure her three-year-old son Toby, who wears hearing aids, got the right support at nursery. Find lots more information on deaf children in the early years on our website: www.ndcs.org.uk....
I'm deaf and I go to a deaf school but I'm severely deaf but kids at my school are loss of hearing - totally deaf
Why there is no promotion of Sign Language instead? Don't forget that Sign Language has benefits too.
Of course it does, but this family decided to concentrate on speech only, I guess. Probably because the boy is just hard of hearing and hears pretty well with hearing aids. I don't understand why British people raise little kids using only one language though... They learn so easily and quickly when they're little it's such a waste.
Every deaf child is different and parents here in the UK use a variety of communication types with their deaf children. Some sign, some concentrate on speech and some use both - what works for one family might not work for another.
