    Anyone who saw Hole in its heyday literally already has a space in paradise. She did it so well the songs sounded like the studio recordings.

    I've watched/listened to a lot of Hole's performances, and I honestly feel this is one of the best they gave-perhaps the best. Courtney's vocals are flawless here, and everyone was surprisingly composed. Much of the performances they gave during this era were either complete disasters or disasters that happened to be insanely compelling. This show is equal parts intense and professional, and is proof that, drugs and neuroses aside, Courtney and this band were great performers and musicians.

      I agree. The 94-95 Hole era was a mess, but this performance is almost flawless.

      @@CanadianHorseFace the "Doll Parts" performance at the end is the best live rendition of that song I've seen. I really liked the jangly guitar in it, but moreover, Courtney's voice was in perfect form (which it's often not). I've seen performances where she struggles to make those screams work in the outro, but it's impeccable here.

      Yes she sounds boss. Maybe the early days they had shitty equipment and video sound? ;) and or she's not so messed up. I think she's just feeling it this evening. I wonder why when bands play on Letterman or whatever they sound flawless but at a concert it can be a disaster?

      second of all, courtney and her band hole are supposed to be a part of the punk rock subculture. she can’t be if she says the n word. racism isn’t punk.

    if i could go back in time i would go to this era or earlier just to see hole play. one thing that always bugs me tho is that courtney truly never seems to really play her guitar... like, ever. maybe on the unplugged. but she always seems to just strum a little bit and the rest is like, pretend. Still HER VOICE

    • @sonicboy19
      @sonicboy19 5 лет назад +23

      @Aaron Finch I agree. On later tours I agree that her guitar is rarely audible but it definitely is here and in the years prior to this. I think the assumption that she's not playing is due to the fact that she has difficulty screaming and playing at the same time, but that actually works fine because her main contribution on guitar is to add some grungy rythmic counterpoints to Eric's clean leads, and to add some depth and fill, which is only needed in between the screams anyway. She definitely has a unique rhythmic sense that is very much a part of their early sound and is noticeably different from the way Eric plays. I saw them in 95 and I was quite impressed with their ability to sound as ferocious and layered and complex as they did with only two guitars. Certainly most of that is due to the fact that Eric is highly underrated, but I was equally impressed by Courtney's contributions. They were definitely in top live form here...it's too bad that there don't seem to be any pro-shot recordings of full shows from this era other than Unplugged, which is brilliant in a different way for sure, but Hole's biggest strength live was the sheer force of their power, which is impossible to fully capture with a camcorder. I'm definitely thankful these recordings exist and thankful that they're being shared, but man wouldn't it be amazing if an unreleased pro-shot recording with soundboard audio from this era suddenly turned up! There are some from the Celebrity Skin era that are quite good, but they never quite match the power of their earlier shows.

    I realize she was trying to poke fun at political correctness by saying all those bad words. But I would be pissed off if I was black. She only said the N word because she is untouchable up on the stage, not because she is edgy. All those other words might fly on the street and make grandma shake her head but N the word would not. She would get some teeth knocked out if she said the N word in that same manner at a bus stop on the other side of Madison squares walls. She said it like some spoiled drunken slave owners daughter. I still love her music but it's worth being aware of. I love miles Davis's music but he would probably refuse to sit next to me on a plane ride because I'm white. Nothing that's gonna make me throw out my albums but worth being aware of

      If she said that today, forget about it! In minutes it would go viral, I'm surprised this video at 13:00 hasn't been viral yet from a source like TMZ, the backlash would be really bad for her, but in this day and age, this kinda old footage resurfaces and can really bury someone and their career. Apologies so many times in so many ways. I get she just was talking trash saying curse words just to be edgy, not trying to be racist but you just cant say that disgusting hateful word. Times were different in 1994 and guess what radio concert this is, Jingle Ball Z100 NY that plays pop music, they changed to Alternative in the mid 90s.

    • @sonicboy19
      @sonicboy19 5 лет назад +2

      @@jnc121978 She gets away with it because she's Courtney Love, and anyone who has paid much attention to her comes to expect her to say and do crazy things for shock value, as social commentary, or when she's at her best, a blend of the two...it's just part of her shtick, as they say. Kinda like the way Trump gets away with saying and doing crazy things that would be akin to political suicide for any other president. The difference being that a rock performance is an appropriate space for exploring and/or exploiting the power of this archetype, while the White House is possibly the most dangerous place for it. Ironically, I'd venture to bet that anyone who finds Courtney compelling (myself included) is well aware of the fact that she's inhabiting an archetype, while the majority of people who falsely believe that Trump is "telling it like it is" would be first in line to burn Courtney at the stake for being a lying, scheming, egotistical whore. Oh, the irony...

      Dude you're watching a bootleg tape of something that occurred 25 years ago and then making a comment on it based on current social norms. It's as stupid as getting upset if you found out someone had slaves 300 years ago. Here's a little insight....i guarantee that you are currently are doing something that will upset future generations. Just remember you are doing something that will make you look like an asshole and get the shit kicked out of you in 100 years whether that is something that you eat(meat) or words or how you view the world. To be frank, the way Courtney behaves is more like a person who is heart-broken. I'm mainly reminded of people who have recently broken up. That's how I see Courtney behave like.
    I can't say she's behaving like a grieving widow because most widows keep away from the public and stay private for a time. I guess that's why people don't believe she's grieving. Widows don't go to public and interact with people or do stage performances.
    I also notice that she's being provocative. Maybe it's from her experience as a stripper or maybe it's due to the fact that before Kurt died, Courtney suspected he was cheating on her or maybe the crowd were like that and influenced her. I sense some of the male audience want to have sex with her because she is Kurt's wife/widow and I hear that some men didn't like Kurt because of how some women were infatuated with him. Some guys had crushes or girlfriends who were obsessed with Kurt and I think some of them wanted to take revenge against Kurt by having sex with Courtney or sexually harassing her.
    I will admit that I feel sympathy for Courtney. Being married to a rock star who is attractive, causing women to be infatuated with him, evoking the jealousy and wrath of the men who liked these women, then they target Courtney.
    Then there's the conspiracy theory where people accuse her of murdering Kurt supported mostly by women who are infatuated with Kurt. (I encounter more females supporting the conspiracy theory than males, but that's from my personal experience.)
    Kurt's fans usually say that Kurt should never had married Courtney because his life was ruined by her.
    From what I know, it is Courtney who is suffering the most and whose life was more damaged by Kurt than any damage she did to Kurt. Even when he was alive, she had to face the wrath of the public.
    Of course, Kurt faced hatred too. But the level of hate Courtney received is far more greater than Kurt's.
    And some fans are shocked that Kurt killed himself when it should have been Courtney. I guess that's why they don't believe Kurt committed suicide. They just don't understand why Courtney is still alive and Kurt isn't.
    I wondered that too. I don't have the answer why Courtney is still alive. But reality is that Kurt killed himself. Just because that's not what you wanted (the fans wanted Courtney to be the one to have killed herself) doesn't mean you should force reality to be changed and try to convince people to believe in a lie that you would rather have it be true.
    Just in case people want to know why I don't believe in the conspiracy theory, here's a link to my blog where I explain why Cobain was not murdered:

      @MissDeepina2606 You don't know that Kurt killed himself anymore than you know that Courtney did kill him, which is my belief because of ALL of the evidence and facts that are there in plain sight. Too many to ignore that says Courtney had one or more of her heroin addicted minions who she supplied them with the heroin and money. They all knew if Kurt divorced her she wouldn't have the money to pay for their drug habit. It's so obvious, especially when you take a manic narcissistic psychopath who is put in a situation where her multi-millionaire husband is going to divorce her and have her removed from his will. You can trace her personality type back to when she was very young and see that she is only interested in money and fame and will go to any lengths possible to have it. Then throw in there the fact that she has no guilt, remorse and empathy which makes it very easy for someone like her to murder someone and not only never look back but go on tour only months after she killed him. It all adds up and fits like a puzzle. I haven't even gotten into all of the obvious evidence that points a finger directly at her as the person with the motive. People killing their spouse is very common when it's because of money and divorce. In Courtney's case, throw jealousy in there, (she's known to be a very jealous person) and hate, (she hated Kurt at that point because Kurt was leaving Nirvana, Courtney's cash cow and leaving Courtney for another woman which my guess would be Kristen Pfaff). Dam, I'm only touching the tip of the iceberg here too. But continue to bury your head in the sand and ignore the FACTS, for whatever reason you choose to do so!!
