Having a plan at whatever it is you want to do in life is never a bad thing. I used to play golf professionally and took some sports psychology classes in college and it was the absolute greatest thing that happened for my golf game and now my approach to competitive fishing.

My great niece is fishing on a scholarship at Cambellsville University in Kentucky and has been to the Nationals twice as a high school angler.
She’s actually prefishing today on Lake Norman to prepare for her first tournament of the year the first week of March. Thanks 🙏 for your knowledge and sharing your information.✊🔨🎣🙏

Great stuff! I've kept a fishing log for over 10 years now, documenting 1000s of catches. It helped me validate conventional wisdom for myself & for instance, gain more confidence in "big fish" baits which has lifted my average size up significantly over the years! Idk if I'll ever be good at chess though 😂

David, this is a brilliant series, and it doesn't apply to JUST being pro. Even if it's just getting to be a better club angler, or you want to step up to bass nation, or fish open tournaments, or even non-fishing related goals entirely. It's great that you are trying to take the "fishing" part out of the equation, get people to get into their own heads.

Such priceless information coming from an aspiring professional. On top of 100 more videos like this, I’d love to hear the story about the guy you were training who “thought he was the man”

Love the chess analogy, that's a great way to break it down. And you're right on about strategy and sacrificing... if I could just sacrifice less chatterbaits to the pike army, I'd be all set 😂

as a top 5% chess player I approve this message. Although there aren’t billions of strategies… there are about 300 common opening systems and tactics there may be about 40 or so basic tactics and then just more and more complex strategies from there. its true that when playing a weak player we can read the position and usually exploit it in 10-20 moves. a studied player is a lot harder to beat because cheap tricks and common tactics dont make much progress, so its more of a slow game sometimes and you are lucky to find a little advantage that you can keep working enough to beat them in the end game (one pawn up for example)

Thank you David for an inspiring video. To me, it’s just getting a bite. Yes, I’m that bad as an angler. I won’t give up.
I purchased your medium heavy spinning rod. Really liking it. Eliminated one more bait caster and my ongoing hassles using a bait caster.
Thank you for all you give back. Really excited to see future videos from your pool.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Being relatively new to bass fishing, I really appreciate you explaining the thought process behind being a good angler and not telling us to run out and by the top of the line everything as an answer to our questions and fishing success. It's information that we really need to hear to excel as an angler.

@daviddudley This means soooo much to me as an angler. Situations on the water is super key. What happens when u are on a budget and starting this great game. Where does one start? I been fishing since I was 3 years of age. Bass fishing 6 years directly at ponds lakes. Should I get on a team? How easy or hard is it to get into bass opens. Whats those entry fees? Yea man I have solo much to talk about.
