This story is probably my favorite out of the whole series, with 2 and 5 coming up close.

Disgaea 1 is just a OG and just a classic story and a fun twist on simple things
I love how Curtis was very very awkward in speaking his lines in the beginning but while in Prinny form, he may have gotten used to his role and spoke much more naturally. it may very well be his first voice acting gig.
Now that you point it out it does sound quite awkward. He is saying things in weird tones and not how you would expect them to be said. He definitely did get better at the end though.

I see why everyone likes this story so much now! It's really good. I've heard this, 2 and 4 have some of the best stories. Laharl is one of my favorites now (though I already loved him in Disgaea 5 but now I understand his lore) :D
Edit: Red Prinny and Red Moon scene just HIT ME IN THE FEELS. The ending. Oh, Laharl. You may have become my favorite MC.

Playing it now. It's so boring. Every stage, you move every unit, select every action, which results in maybe 16 total operations, and every single turn you do the same thing again, and you're expected to do it hundreds and hundreds of time through the game. The story is fun, but the game play makes me want to set the game on fire.
@@newvocabulary Well it's basically a turned based game. You have to have some sort of appreciation for the level of depth put into the characters and their respective abilities. Being able to not just walk around but throw each other to get to different places. Each character and character type has their own way of being able to do things. Knowing what that is and how to do it, can get you far without having to do everything 'hundreds and hundreds of times". This would be no different than me playing something like Call of Duty (which I have nothing against) and saying that every mission is just walk here, shoot somebody, do some random objective, shoot somebody else, then leave. But if it's not for you then idk man.

@@newvocabulary that's the thing. The characters ARE built. There's obviously going to be some sort of repetition for different types of games. Almost all games can be boiled down to doing just a few repetitive things. I've both played and seen the game through, the battle tactics are the same functions, obviously, but the way you go about it is different each time. Unless you just drive through in a straight line and hope you don't get destroyed by them. But then you're just doing a disservice to yourself and the game.

Hmm one of my favorites Disgaea games if I were to rank them just story wise and not gameplay etc I’ll say

My favorite setting was Disgaea 3 tho I loved the school setting and the main character design. Everything else was just meh sadly.
Disgaea 4 I probably have to re-watch the story or play it again cuz I just remember not liking the story and environment. Bland characters and there so much red/orange levels 😱 is all I remember lol
Tho Disgaea 2 did have the best romance oof 😣 so hard but it’s all good

What I love about D1 is how much depth we get from the characters and we basically start with the main 3 form the beginning and stick to them for 3/4 of the game before more join. The human are good too I wanted Jen x Gordon to be a thing but Gordon needs to be a man lol he need to stop acting if you know what I mean

A Question for the comments: What is all of your opinions on Laharl's parent's decision?
I can't imagine wanting my child to NOT know I was there once more, even for a bit, to talk to them so they have something to hold onto. I think it's an inherently selfish thing they chose to do, which yes, Demons, but I still believe they should have given him more of a chance to let them go completely.
While Laharl's mom might think it's worse to leave him with another glimpse, I can't stand for that, he's this way because of events beyond his control, at least give him something more!

You kind of misunderstood her chapter then.
What would be the point? Laharl is fully aware of his mother's decision, and he really loved her. An exchange of words is unnecessary, because it'd only to more grief/sorrow due to how it can also make things worse. She just reappeared to let him now she'll always be there with him (even if not physically) with his father.

I know what the chapter was about, are you serious? This isn't about what I think the chapter is about, I'm talking about Laharl's Mom's decision to just leave without doing anymore than that.
She had YEARS. It's not like she just appeared, she's positioned in the canon as having been around long enough to be called 'Bis Sis' by other Prinnies. Most of those guys are sinners and are likely not as trusting of odd demons.
It would have literally hurt Laharl LESS for her to have actually let him know she was still alive than otherwise. It's not like Laharl was mature enough to even know what 'letting go' means. Once again, he's a kid, there's no rule that stated Red Moons only come around once a millennia or something. It's clearly a re-occurring event that is meant for all Prinnies and not some abstract 'group' of them.
@@rashan141 You're applying human logic to a character that's supposed to be a demon. In D1, I'm pretty sure that only Laharl's father was different from every other demon (hence why Etna is so loyal to him); say what you want about nature, but what makes you think he'd learn to not be a brat in an enviroment where everyone (minus his father) acts like a selfish jerk?
Besides again, what would you want her to say? "Hey son, I'm still alive. Sorry I had to kill myself to save your life. I just want you to know that I'm doing fine, being treated like shit due to being a Prinny. Hopefully you don't feel guilty!"
@@loren5432 It's constantly stated that Laharl was raised by love. That same love turned him into a brat because he DIDN'T understand why 'love' caused his mother to die.
No, I'm not 'applying human logic', the game _treats_ Laharl like he's a kid. A kid with power to tear the world apart, sure, but still a _kid._ Etna says it constantly, so does Aramis, and so do most of the other villains of this game and D:D2.
Also, also, those same demons enjoyed having Krichevskoy around, considering that three of the big bads from Brighter Darkness are literally trying to find someone worthy of being KRICHEVSKOY'S SUCCESSOR. Meaning they held a lot of respect and trust in him and likely would try to do the same to the man's son who ended up a brat due to the circumstances. Them abandoning Laharl is an example of demon thinking not Laharl being a kid who doesn't understand why his parents would die for him.
