- A classic, smooth bourbon gets a review supplemented with Irish accents and moonshine stereotypes.
Big thanks to ... whoever sent this in.
If you're the M.B. who gave us this bottle, get in touch!

I’m glad you featured this. WJ has been my “go to” bourbon for a while now. It’s so interesting, yet easy and enjoyable to drink. There are better blends out there, but price-wise, I think it punches way above it’s weight.
Still weird seeing you here, but how easy would it be for you to open the vault?
@@Acesian maybe he’s already in the vault?
I would say we found the mystery MB. They also opened the bottle twice to show it was not a fluke.
Very cool to see one of my favorite content creators commenting on one of my favorite channels. I agree with all the assessments about WJ including yours. It's such a well mannered and refined blend that doesn't cost a fortune and doesn't pretend to be something it's not. One of my favorite bourbons.
@@Acesian good idea for a Saturday video. Can LPL get into the whiskey vault.
MBs, This was the bottle I sent in! I sent it in a while ago after visiting the distillery last summer but I guess the note didn’t make it with it. Thank you so much for the review and I’m glad to see you liked it. Cheers brothers 🥃
Bought a bottle after this review and trying their whisky using rye mash. Did not disappoint.
Gotta love that Benevolent Bastard piece!
I’m kinda of two minds on this one. When I opened it, got a great nose of cherry pound cake. Tasted it and got a mouthful of charcoal. Had to dump it. Came back to it a few weeks later. Great nose, and the charcoal was gone……mostly. Third try, same thing. When that charcoal isn’t there, it’s really good. But, I still get it every now and then. Maybe just a bad bottle/barrel mix. Good review!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a mouthful of charcoal. Maybe I'll have to go back and have another drink. It's been on the shelf for about 6 months.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
I was wondering about this because I keep seeing it around me. Now I may just pick up a bottle. Thanks guys.
Was not expecting a deep and meaningful conversation regarding banana pudding smoky mountain moonshine.
No one expects the banana pudding smoky mountain moonshine!
I see these kind of comments and im already looking forward to the vid😂
I tried this at a tasting last night in Cardiff, hosted by the local Whisky Shop. It was the second bottle we tried after a young Irish whisky, and nobody seemed to like it. Most people picked up on a very astringent and dry finish, like burnt toast, which meant you had to take another sip to wash it away with the sweet and sugary palate. But it always finished with that bitter black carbon taste, which nobody seemed to enjoy.
Finally picked up a bottle of Widow Jane Batch 501. Had to go back and pick up a second bottle to put back in my collection.
I have been waiting for you guys to review Widow Jane for months!!! I love Widow Jane
Cherry C-oak?
Agreed, the Widow is excellent. If you can find the Lucky 13, I'd definitely recommend it. And their Decadence is magical.
Probably my favorite bourbon, glad the price has come down over time (was around $80/bottle when I started). Also happy I can get this NY bourbon down south where I live now. Just very well balanced and easy to drink. Checks the boxes for me, I'm constantly trying new ones but I always go back to the Widow.
What's the price where you're located? In my area WJ goes for $80 still. Would love to find some for a bit less, but I'm just happy I can find them.
The Ole Smokey flavors are fun. I recently did a video on a cocktail I made with their Blackberry Moonshine that I call a Salty Black Dog. They aren't my go-to thing to drink but they have a place in a fun night of drinking.
So as a Korean I watch a couple of Whisky youtubers in Korea. The only reason why I’m mentioning this is because as a fan of this channel I wanted to tell you guys that there is a youtube channel that is opening Samaroli bottles including Laphroaig 1970 as well as other bottles that are hard to come across like Black Bowmore Edition 2. As far as I’m aware these types of whisky aren’t the topic of this channel but I thought it would be great if you posted content about independent botters and especially Samaroli.
-Love from Seoul, South Korea
What whisky youtubers are you watching? Do they have english subtitles?
@@stockicide if you search 생명의물 the most viewed video is the 1970 Samaroli Laphroaig. I believe it does have English subtitles
I picked up batch 402 last December, as well as an Applewood & Oak, and an American Oak offering...I bought the A & O first, absolutely LOVED it, and went for the other two the very next day...this 10 year is delicious IMHO, and I'm glad I took the plunge.
I been looking for the Oak & Apple one, it's scarce
I'm shocked that this hasn't been reviewed already.. one of my favorites!
Picked up batch 711 just started getting into bourbon probably wasn’t the best beginning bottle but after a while it grew onto me
We were on a self driving tour of Ireland. We didn't have a GPS and were using paper maps we had printed in the US. We were in Kenmare, looking for our B & B. We stopped and asked a gentleman who was walking for directions. He talked for over 3 minutes and we only understood post office. We found the post office and in the distance, across a river, was our B&B. Almost as bad was a bar in Temple Bar, Dublin. We met up with an English couple and a Scottish guy. The Scot was drunk, and had a hair lip. Very, very hard to understand, but a lot better than the guy in Kenmare.
I’ve heard good things about Widow Jane just haven’t found it in any local shops yet. Great review 👍🏽
Seen advertising for this all over of NYC and was wondering about this, thanks for reviewing this!
My favorite liquors are spicy Bourbons, Islay Scotch and mezcal, but every once in a while i"m in the mood for some of those sweet flavored liqueurs. I always keep some Hochstadter's slow and low in my cabinet, and my GF and i like the Knob Creek smoky maple quite a bit. Dangerously easy to drink at 90 proof.
I've tried a few Ole' Smoky varieties, and recently bought that Banana Puddin' one and it's quite drinkable and fun. I've also bought the Salty Watermelon (too sweet, tastes like jolly ranchers) and Mango Habanero whiskey - which is too spicy to drink late at night, and as a regular eater of Thai food I have high tolerance for heat. It makes me feel wired and makes my forehead sweat a little if I drink enough.
Blue Spot is 7y age statement but its actually a blend of 7y-19y barrels
I would love to see you guys get/try the "Lucky Thirteen" I think that's the best expression.
Thanks for the review guys 🥃
Widow one of my favorite bourbons of all time comes in a little pricey at 70 for the normal and a little over 100 for the 10 year
It is expensive. I agree with that.
I really like Widow Jane, however I feel its about $20 a bottle too much. My bottle is close to being gone and I probably won't replace it.
Yours was $20 mine was $50 🙂🙃
LOL, no! Mine was $70! I feel it was about $20 overpriced. It would be a good $50 bottle.
@@stagecoachrobbery oh ok I misunderstood you. Wow 😯 yeah at $50 it’s worth the price
Looks really good guys I like to try some of that I am new to this channel you guys have a great day guys ✌️
As a Whiskey novice who loves Bourbon and Rye, I’m glad they liked and reviewed my favorite Bourbon so far, cheers you bastards ❤️🥃🌞
I discovered WJ and it's so good. I think people are figuring this out as its becoming harder to find
Thank you for the great content 🙏 I recall Daniel saying that's artbag corryvreckan is a discontinued expression from The Distillery I did find a liquor store near my home that has five or six bottles in stock my question is it discontinued and if it is I do remember Daniel saying that the vault is out of it if you are I would love to get you one where can I send it to?
I tried some at my local Irish bar that has an excellent whiskey selection around a year or so ago. It was not good and I'm wondering if they got a bad bottle. It tasted very medicinal, almost like pure iodine. I drank it neat.
Are you sure they didn't pour you a Laphroaig 10 lol.
@@FEWGEE1 Nope. I love Laphroaig 10. I watched the bartender open the still sealed bottle.
Cherry C-oak sounds pretty good!
Happy 420k subscribers
We have this on the shelves here in Ohio but still havnt tried it yet
Thanks MBs! Question: as you progress in your whisky journey, how well do these lower proof expressions hold up? Can something of this age and proof still hold your attention?
Love and light whisky to you all. Yea the moonshine hit is hard on the scene there’s a green apple one that’s pretty good. I don’t think it’ll last too long though.
Recently discovered WJ. I would like it a lot more if it wasn't so expensive where I live.
That banana stuff is like 35 Proof. Doesn't seem like "moonshine" to me.
Commercially made flavored moonshine is the apple-tini of liquors. Stuff out in the wild isn't usually such a low proof. Most of the Old Smokey stuff that is flavored is very low proof. So low that they have to be watering it down on purpose and not through the fruit etc additives.
So this “distillery” is located about 2 blocks from my office. While a am not a bourbon snob (aka a pretentious gent who tastes things that aren’t there and if you question him/her then you don’t have a “refined pallet”) I have been a bourbon only drinker for the better part of a decade. I have samples bourbon from all over at my annual bourbon and cigar event but in most cases I stick to bourbons that the average person can afford. I bought a bottle of this bourbon and I can only describe it as tasting like it has been aged in a old basket ball. The taste of rubber on the aftertaste was overpowering.
Since this is their low end bourbon, there is no incentive to move up the line.
Howdy Doody.!
Hearing you talk about the type of people that drink flavored moonshine pegged my father-in-law to a T
Wait, who are these guys again? Daniel and Rex, you say?
Pretty sure blue spot is 7 year cask strength
Happy Wednesday MB's :)
thought this tasted a lot like henry mcKenna. this might mean i drink too much bourbon.
i always wondered. how can straight bourbon not contain flavoring when it's aged in new chared oak bbls which adds flavoring?
Now I’ve got to go get a bottle on the chance that it disappears.
Shit has been grabbing my eye for months at my local specs behind the glass case…idk I’m getting vibes that it might be good so now I went to my two favorite white bois because I trust y’all pallet
Please review New England Barrel Co.’s stuff 🙏🏼
Damn you Rex, now I want an 'Old Smokey Banana' pudding moonshine
Dan should add the “bloop” every time they add water 🤣
Damn guys, had a dream about you visiting my home here in Serbia, and all I remember was you being shoked that Buffalo Trace is 40% on our market, and that is not worth the price 😂
Blue Spot is 7yr cask strength
FYI This sells for $56 at my local Costco in Missouri.
Around 80 up in CT
U. City in the chat!!! Right by The Loop.
FOr those of us who aren't as connected, what is the "MGP situation?" Are they having supply issues or have their products gone to full toilet gin?
Maybe for those without names they need a 'shelf of the unknown bastard'
Isn’t this finished in maple syrup barrels? Not getting any of that?
The Decadence expression is - not the 10 Y
Yo
Why didn't you mention the water? Pity.
Passed this up for $84 today. Just couldn’t do it
Peerless distillery made flavored moonshine while waiting for the whisk(e)y age to keep afloat financially.. it was pretty good.. but their bourbon & rye is better
Sugarlands Maple Syrup moonshine
That's not really cognitive dissidence...but I agree 100%. I got that family. Yeehaw!
Banana laffy taffy with a kick
101 dollars in my country
Had the last batch and it tasted weird to me. For the price I'm not buying it again.
Is it good? Yes. But is it worth $60? No. Bourbon to me is not complex enough to be blending and charging more than $40 even for a 10yr. Russell reserve 10 can be had for $35 on sale in my woods. It's a soft pass for me.
I really wanted to like this bottle but for me, it was a disappointment

The ‘k’ at the end of the ‘ing’ is getting worse…
How did Rex not notice the base? Lost all respect..
Your channel is very interesting, 💁 informative-- even entertaining, but! Here's the deal-- do U even 👍 Like, Love said whisky, bourbon or what have you---??
I will no longer take whiskey advise from someone NOT wearing a chain like that!
Save your $. This is one to pass on. Lacks complexity and depth and due to new oak barrel aging , is very oak forward with a bitter tannic aftertaste. Mine as well suck on a piece of oak wood as you drink your whisky. Def not worth the hype or price.
One of the priciest whiskies on the retail Market
Definitely not a fan of this one
