It's been over two years since I worked a 3-man crew. Usually, my HS Assoc does not work it, mostly due to money. I get about 3-5 with LL at All-Star time. Somethings gotta give..........need reps! Three Umpire System is the best:-)
I'm trying to break this down into the EASIEST way possible. And it seems to me like it's easier to say when U1 ISN'T in A. Since they are in A, ANY TIME there is nobody on, or anytime there is a runner on 1st (including 1st and 2nd, 1st and 3rd, just 1st, just 3rd, or bases loaded), or bases loaded. So my easy take is as follows: ***They are only NOT in A with runners on 2nd, or 2nd and 3rd, with less than 2 outs. U2 is only in D with nobody on, or runner on 3rd only (and when U1 is in B) Otherwise they are always in C. Can somebody confirm that I'm seeing this correctly?
The College Mechanics, and PBUC Mechanics books are good references, but be sure to check out the 3-Man Mechanics as outlined in the NFHS Umpire's Manual. Also, it is a good idea to attend and training offered by your association as they may have their own adjustments, and their own way of doing things.
I am a second year umpire working in VT. Working my first crew of three game tomorrow. Looking forward to it. My partners are very experienced and I am looking forward to learn from them.
Watching this the night before my first sectional game and first 3 man game!
Perfect timing as playoffs begin next month with 3-man crews.
My first time being a member of a three-man crew and this, my reason for watching - very helpful

Working the first NorCal playoff in a three-man. Worked sparingly in three-man in sectionals and LL baseball. Thank you.
This helps. Working my first 3 man

Patrick, is the why to the U1 being in the A position with two out because the most likely play will be at first?
Exactly!
Always watching 😂
