I have been reloading for about 6 years. Rarely do I get a request that I'm not sure I should take on. A friend of a friend asked me if I can do a load for his 7.5x53.5 Swiss SR1889. I'm doing a bit or research at this point. The 53.5 is just the case trim length in MM, correct? Have you had success using reshaped 284 brass?
@@matthewsherman8342 yes iv reshaped a lot of 284win into 7.5x55 brass. I do like to Anneal the brass before I size it from 284 to 7.5. And I have had no extraction issues with the rebated rim on the 284. Iv only reloaded for a k31 never a k11.
@@gunmountain Is there any other information I need from him about his model of rifle other than what he has given me already in order to start working on a load?
@@matthewsherman8342 if it's a 1889 I believe they use a smaller diameter Bullet, .306" rather than the .308" that my k31 uses. I'd be very careful loading for a sm1889, as I believe some of the original ammo was lead with a paper patch. You could use modern jacketed bullets if you swage them down to .306". I'd just be concerned with a pressure spike if I was to load a .308" bullet. I have never loaded 7.5x53.5mm that the sm1889 uses. I would absolutely not load 7.5x55 ammo for a sm1889.
Thank you great video. Hopefully I'll see a K-31 for sale one of these days
