aeriths death in rebirth is done perfectly, and part 3 will wrap everything up in the best way possible, people just gotta let the emotions cook, and most just choose to get mad that its not a one to one remake...

Ya but if you connect advent children that’s more of a life stream topic and clouds connection to it. If Zack and aerith live physically as in not there spirit or soul - it takes away from the impact of the story there for bad writing.

I disagree. Seeing the death would have been more impactful. Shows the ugly ness of sephiroth and that cry of failure that impacts cloud so much like the original.I also feel this is censorship rather than story impact choice. You can show death in a T rated game it’s how you do it. Similar to the alien blood in remake though I would have preferred red blood etc.

I cried through the fighting after THAT scene. I think they nailed it and they further nailed the breakdown of Cloud in a way the original never did, and I say that after having recently played through the original. They really amplified everything in this game. I can't wait for Part 3. Mideel is gonna go so hard...

Theyre just furthering the unreliable narrative aspect of the game with Aerith. Part 3 is going to be all about grief and the stages of grief. What is the first stage of grief? Denial. They want us to experience this from Clouds POV. They want us to be in denial.

Aerith will def get screen time in pt3 she didn’t even get her ultimate weapon yet and Nomura said a person can be dead in one world and alive in another. Ultimania literally said her fate isn’t known yet. I think Zack will help with Cloud’s identity too since he was present in Nibleheim

16:32 That's why I think the death of Aerith will be used by Sephiroth in the North Crater and not in the big Lifestream scene. As a mean to break Cloud's mind before he disappears.
If anyone but Tifa is in that following scene, that is about Cloud's youth and identity, I'd be surprised. It'd be odd.

I just wish there was an option at the start that says “I’ve played the original yes/no”
If no, you get a 1:1 remake. 99.9% of the work is done. You actually just need to remove scenes if anything.
Imagine being new to this game. Playing it and hearing the players who ticked yes are getting a different story, and when it’s all completed you get to replay this game again but with the alternate timelines. I’d love that idea.

That's unlikely what happened. The Aerith in the forest was Remake / Beagle Aerith and she traded the clear materia for the good white one. OG Aerith /Omni Aerith died in the church a kind of second death or lifestream death. Beagle Aerith then became the new Omni Aerith to take her place.

I finished Metaphor finally this week. It is a great game but... there is no way I would ever consider it being close to the caliber of Rebirth. It has some great moments but the political commentary is very surface level to where I found myself wanting to side with Louis by the end and the game does this thing where it gives you this illusion of choice with the dialogue options towards the end of the game and then hitting you with a credits roll as if to punish you for picking the "wrong" dialogue. This happened to me 3 separate times forcing me to sit through the credits and reload the save to select the dialogue option i didnt want to choose in the first place. And I dont want to hear people complaining about Rebirth being too long because a Hard mode first playthrough in Metaphor will absolutely put rebirth's length to shame.

I agree with you more or less except on the last part. i did hard mode on my first playthrough and did all the side quests and my playtime was like 45ish hours (granted towards the end i did kinda skip through the last two party members social links cuz i was so done with the game at that point and they didn't interest me enough to put in the effort of reading more than the last rank of their links.) My main take away from playing it is the combat never really changes once you get your classes its pretty much just buff yourself, debuff them and hit with what their weak too, i never felt compelled to try tanking with a taunt or jumping in the backline because it was obvious what i needed to do in each fight. the only thing that changed i suppose would be it was easier to set up buffs and debuffs as time went on. As for story its very by the books generic modern atlus. Doing their best to not actual take a side when they bring up topics like racism, or political ideals. Plus the mc being a silent protag(yes i know he talks but its not really a fleshed out character which i guess works what the protag is sorta not really) very much hurts a story of this underdog trying to run for king. If they got rid of him and made sthrol or knight lady (already forget her name sorry) the mc it would flow way better.

I am a new FF player I guess, my first one was FF 10. But I guess I don’t really understand how some feel like the ending was ruined. Only because how could you feel the impact from the death if you have already experienced it? You know what’s going to happen, so it won’t feel the same as if you were experiencing it for the first time. Her death impacted me because we got to see her grow with everyone and the sisterly bond she created with Tifa. Because of that character development, that scene where it felt like we could save her, really placed hope within the player, but of course when the scene ‘fixes’ itself yeah it hurt. I watched the OG gameplay and yeah I see why so many loved this game when it came out.

I'm really not as certain as you seem to be that Aerith is dead-dead in the same way as OG now. I'm in the camp that interprets that scene as s splitting of worlds in the moment that Cloud 'saves' her. That is to say, I think there is a survived Aerith in a world split off from the one that proceeds for the rest of the party at the end of Rebirth. Sephiroth seemingly merges the OG outcome and the OG murdered Aerith in for the rest of the party there, but the Aerith we adventured with to that point inn Rebirth is perhaps alive in a split off world that only Cloud now perceives (Cloud was beyond the whisper boundary and in the altar area when the split occurred, perhaps due to his action there). The Aerith Cloud sees at the ending is then within the world that split off and Cloud also seeing a tear in the sky that no one else can seems to support this. Likewise, I don't think Zack's parting words to Cloud to 'save her' are throw-away if there isn't a living Aerith to save somehow in part 3.
While I'm not sure a world with the Aerith Cloud may have saved (and Zack at the end as I'm guessing) will merge with the parties' in game 3, I think it's at least likely. Whether one or both of those remain in the parties world alive at the final conclusion I'm not sure of, but my guess is that the lifestream scene where Cloud sorts himself out will also include a realization for both himself and maybe Tifa (who briefly saw the split off world with a living Aerith in flashes when first reaching the altar) that there is this now split off world with their Aerith in it. Perhaps this leads to them working to re-unite (possible title for part 3?) the split off world and their Aerith. (The one the party buried in the lake at the end of Rebirth which Cloud is mentally blocking out was OG FF7 Aerith imo). This theory requires that the Re-series are more-so sequels that connect to Advent Children via Sephiroth's consciousness and perhaps some knowledge of Aeriths looping back to the start of FF7 events through the lifestream rather than AC taking place chronologically after this Re- series' chain of events. Considering the state of humanity at the end of AC and Cloud's inability to be at peace til AC's end, recalling enough of Sephiroth for him to return over and over, a new outcome like what this theory would permit isn't necessarily a bad thing either (ie. Aerith living may be more important to saving Gaia from geostigma and Spehiroth constantly returning in some form).
A major theme of the re series is characters not being able to accept death or that nothing lasts forever as you say. Sephiroth in particular seems motivated entirely by avoiding mortality in these games and the First Soldier games seem to shed more light on this in that he was frustrated by an inability to save everyone at times in his youth. That will remain important I think in part 3, but I don't think the less of things not lasting forever needs to come by way of Aerith (or Zack's) death necessarily as they didn't really get to live full lives either. It might be just as poignant to have the group struggle to save their lives and give them a chance to exist without being tools of Shinra, or chained to a destiny as the last ancient etc. And maybe, we will get some sort of redemption for Sephiroth in part 3 too? I doubt that would be full-blown, but maybe he separates from Jenova or throws that voice out of his mind and we get some glimmer of the young version of him that wanted to do good at the very end (Something like Kuja's end in FF9).
All just my takes and guesses based on what we've seen and know so far now from devs. Could be way off, but I'd not be surprised if we find out it's a 'both' situation regarding Cloud denying Aerith's death mentally that the party experienced and really seeing a living one in another world at Rebirth's end. Would love to hear any thoughts on these ideas though. Thanks for this video!

I'm a relatively new subscriber but I love these deep dives like this where you go into how people perceive FF7 within the wider gaming community. I personally loved Rebirth because it feels so much like the "Golden Age" JRPGs JRPG fans constantly say aren't made anymore. I think a lot of these players were maybe put off by the fact that the FF7 remake is being divided into multiple games and probably never finished or even played Remake so there's little interest to them in the middle child of a three part story. This sucks but I think if Square can stick the landing with Part 3 a lot of these same players will be encouraged to go back and experience Remake and Rebirth again and I think they'll realize what they were missing out on the whole time. I do also agree that the PC port will likely open up the door for more people to enjoy the game as well. I bought a PS5 mostly to play Rebirth but I'm probably going to buy it on PC too so I can stream it to my PC-only friends.

With rebirth more people knew the game wasn’t a “faithful” remake of the original story and it steered them away from even trying while with remake part 1 a lot of people had assumed it would be the original story 1 for 1. Plus ps4s were definitely more popular at the time than ps5s so that definitely helped with remake selling more.

That's the dream, but there will have to be some kind of sacrifice involved. Kitase has already said the Nomura et al overruled a true happy ending, so there will be some element of sadness. ALL of his lines, from Remake to Rebirth, were my favorites! Didn't like Hoechlin at first, but I've grown quite comfortable with him voicing my favorite character. I can't wait to hear him one final time in Part 3. And I believe that I was right that Aerith would die for real. Because I actually looked back, and I figured out the puzzle: Cloud's 'Vision Pro' is just his mind trying to block out what really happened. We see Cloud getting to Aerith on time and pushing his enemy away, believing that Cloud actually saved her. But then reality rears its ugly head and we see the truth: Cloud did NOT manage to save Aerith.
Sephiroth's sword DID manage to make its mark, because it went STRAIGHT THROUGH AERITH'S BACK, judging by the blood pouring out from the right side of the screen. It took me years to figure that frustrating puzzle out! And then we have Cloud's hand covered in blood and then Sephiroth flings Aerith's blood on him. I actually had to rewind a couple of times just so that I could make sure that my mind was NOT playing tricks on me when Cloud blocked Sephiroth's strike. I can't BELIEVE that I was RIGHT, when I said a few years ago after watching that scene that Aerith would DIE and that she wasn't coming back. It's like you said in your video: we HAVE to accept death, even if we don't want to believe it.
If we DO manage to see the REAL burial in Part 3 and Cody's lines, I know I'm going to cry buckets of tears. But I REALLY want to see what Vincent will reveal to Sephiroth, since I'm more interested in that than anything else. BTW, nice work on the breakdown with Sephiroth, too! I LOVE IT when you speak about my favorite character in your videos! All I know is that FFVII fans are NOT going to be happy when they learn that Aerith is dead for real this time in the finale. I'm sorry that they're attacking you for that in the comments, too. They can't accept the fact that Aerith really is gone. Briana White, Tyler and Cody did a BEAUTIFUL job in that scene in the Temple of the Ancients, especially Briana: 'Cloud...it's okay'. I applaud all three of them for their GORGEOUS voice performances! 👏👏

I really wanted the death scene to play out normally for this game. The people of now need to feel the sheer impact of it as it normally happens, so I do feel like the confusion definitely ruins part of the feeling, as well as us not getting clouds mini speech. it really misses the mark for me. I understand that the narrative doesn’t call for it to happen now but to leave that hanging for 3+ years is a bit of a stretch imo

But at the same time I’m very excited for the big scene in the next game, where they have cloud come to terms with the truth in that lifestream scene (potentially), my main criticism was just that new ff7 fans don’t get hit with it as hard as they should, and I just want to hear the speech man

Gamers and the game awards drive me crazy
The Game Awards is nothing special and Final Fantasy is always snubbed there
People spend all year complaining about critics, yet when it comes to the Game Awards if their game wins they love critics all of a sudden, for a few months then they will he back to talking smack about critics lol
    It's just silly
The Game Awards is one of the worst game awards, the 90% to 10% split is too much, does anyone care what critics think really?
    They have there own bias
And it's the biggest because it's just a big ad
The Golden Joystick awards is much better award show for and by gamers

Baka! Hamaguchi said Aerith is like a "nee-san". Which is a Japanese trope for a wiser, more mature woman that evokes a "big sister" vibe. This is exactly what Claudia (Cloud's mom) says when she says what type of girl Cloud would be better off with: a "nee-san" type of girl. Please, don't butcher the Japanese language and culture. Arigato!

Like someone on here has already pointed out, “Onii-San”/“Onee-San” is literally a trope in Japanese culture. I’ve seen countless works use the term, even between characters that are in a romance or flirty relationship. Or even between Japanese people that aren’t related.
All anyone has to do is look at the countless moments between Cloud and Aerith in the OG, Remake, and Rebirth, to know they clearly don’t view each other as siblings.
What sister flirts with her brother? Offers him a date as a reward for a job? Enjoys his flustered reaction to her dress? Tells him not to fall in love with her, while caressing his cheek? Clings to his arm while telling all their friends they were on a date? Is thought to be in a romantic relationship with him by people and doesn’t ever correct them? During a side quest in Gongaga, gets jealous that him and Cissnei may of had a romantic thing? Sings a song where the lyrics are mostly about him? Almost kisses them on a gondola? Chooses to spend her last moments going on a dream date with him, where she holds his hand, gets a picture specifically for couples, and talks about “liking” him while being nervous and unable to look him in the eye? In the canon novel “OTWTAS” calls him her koibito/beloved, and that there were many things she wanted to tell him, but she didn’t know what to say, or how? Finally Nojima himself said in the novel I mentioned that things aren’t going well between Cloud and Tifa, and that even without Geostigma or Sephiroth, that may still be the case. Then said maybe things would of gone better with Aerith.
I didn’t even mention the moments in the OG, or the things Cloud does and says, as my comment is long enough. Yet what I’ve said is more than enough to discredit this “sister” angle you Cloti shippers are desperately clinging onto and twisting to suit yourselves. Tifa gained maternal feelings for Cloud in the novel, when he’s caught acting like a kid she says this is what a mother must feel like, then smiles and feels happy with these new feelings. So is their relationship like mother and son? I’m sure you and all the other Cloti’s would say no. Funny how you say the opposite when it’s about the other pairing.

    • @kumarayush9950
      @kumarayush9950 18 дней назад +3

@whitewolf7454 It's not brother-sister relationship but it's definitely not romantic either by any means.
Shippers can interpret the story/relationship however they want but the plot of the story only portrays two romantic relationships between the main characters and those two are Zack - Aerith & Cloud - Tifa, it's pretty fukin clear

    • @whitewolf7454
      @whitewolf7454 18 дней назад +5

@@kumarayush9950 Wow, you can read all of what I’ve said and still believe none of that is romantic? Lol you’re clearly in denial. The games show it, the novel does, and even the devs have. To claim it’s simply platonic is to contradict everything said and shown. Square-Enix intended for there to be a LT from the start, which a dev said. Not to mention Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa wouldn’t do or say what they do, nor would the devs implement date mechanics and choices for players to pick either woman. Aside from the games, novel, and AC, there’s even Ultimania quote’s that also prove my point. Even one’s after Aerith’s death, which point out Tifa’s jealousy and even the fact they were considered rivals for Cloud. I could go on.
The moments between Cloud and Aerith have been more romantic and deep compared to Cloud and Tifa too imo. The former build their relationship in the present, and have many deep and spiritual moments together. Meanwhile for the latter, they had a childhood crush, of which very few to none turn into something real later in life. They weren’t really friends as kids, except for a brief time before Tifa’s mother passed. They knew very little about one another, and even as adults they still don’t know each other well, something Tifa herself says twice in Rebirth. And most of their moments together are them simply talking about the past, or trauma. Nothing, as far as the canon story is concerned confirms Cloud and Tifa are in a relationship. There’s no canon confirmation in the games, as much is optional, and in the novels and AC once again nothing is confirmed. The novel states that Tifa doesn’t know what she and Cloud are to each other, along with the fact they sleep in separate beds and separate rooms, argue a lot, and spend little time together. They don’t do or say anything romantic in any novel or AC, and neither does any other character mention or confirm anything. Even in Dirge, which takes place a year after AC, Tifa is still addressed as Cloud’s friend, not his girlfriend, wife, or whatever. Barret is also back to living with them during this time, along with Shelke. You and other Cloti’s all seem to paint Cloti as some deep love story, when in reality there’s very little to them aside from a childhood crush and shared traumatic past. Trauma bonding at most, which is why they are so awkward, don’t seem compatible, and constantly have issues one way or another. Something a few devs have commented on.

I don’t think it’s fair to call people an idiot....to be fair before Remake even came out FF7 OG was already a masterpiece in of itself. An we all thought the Remake trilogy was gonna be a one of one of the original story. Then at the end of Remake it took an entirely different turn...which a lot of people like as well as didn’t like. An in Rebirths ending it took an even bigger turn introducing timelines an convoluted story plots. But as a fan myself I still have an open mind an hoping atleast in part 3 it all ties in together an makes sense. Because the timeline different alternate realities etc. wasn’t necessary...there were a lot of things that the game an story didn’t need.
For example Crisis Core was a masterpiece of a game in terms of Zacks story an yet.....they brought Zack back 🤦‍♂️ when his character was summed up perfectly in crisis core as well as what it meant to be a real Hero. So didn’t understand the point of bringing him back...other then the fact the fanbase loves character. An Aerith....I love Aerith but her iconic death is what made Cloud an his friends overcome there hardships, so if they make it so Aerith lives, an an nobody’s it will ruin the story of FF7.

I don’t think that’s a healthy way to look at things. People are allowed to dislike something, that doesn’t make them an idiot. Just because a lot of effort was put into something that doesn’t mean it’s good. This is coming from someone that really likes Rebirth, but has some problems with the ending. Toxic positivity is what leads to stuff like concord, if people have problems with something they SHOULD criticize it without being afraid of being called an idiot for simply disliking something

Great video, however; I do disagree with you and do believe that Glenn will end up being Cloud's father. You should watch Dashing Dave's video on Glenn and how he connects the time to Glenn and actually the math does add up to where he can be Cloud's father. Have you read 2000 Gil to become a Hero? the short story they wrote? Of course there is a lot to leave up to interpretation, what is fact and what is fiction narrative in Rebirth. I'm actually writing a fanfic about Glenn being Cloud's father and are 10 chapters in. I believe Claudia and Glenn would have been roughly the same age. A revelation like this would be kept secret until the end.
I also have to say the advertising of meta route of changing fate only for it to end the same is kind of lame. There is no unknown journey, we all know how it will end. The same. Do I hate it? No, but I disagree with them advertising it as such, hopefully the ending does change, that would be a much better pay off in my opinion.
Overall, I think Rebirth should have gotten game of the year award, but of course that is just my opinion. Personally I kind of feel the devs did not look far enough when making the trilogy near the start. They first said the compilation will no longer have any coherence with the trilogy and then that changed. I believe they should have embraced the compilation and included all of the characters or at least more of them up until now. They cut out a Turks "meanwhile" chapter in Remake and there were other things they cut out and I'm sure much more was cut out of Rebirth. They had to keep it under 200 GB or they probably would have needed 3 discs. I feel like they should have planned for DLC. They could have easily had DLC for Vincent perhaps a little with Cid, but more or less a Intermission with Zack setting the tone for part 3 as a interlude into. I would have had a DLC with 3 chapters, the first being Vincent, the second with Cid probably being the smallest, then the final with Zack. I think that would have been the perfect DLC. But really they could have made DLC too on secondary characters such as Evan whom we have yet to be introduced and the majority of the characters from Before Crisis. I also felt, we should have gotten a hint of Genesis in Rebirth, that kind of disappointed me too.
