It's a shame none of the rail youtubers have ventured on this route (though the past few years there's been extensive rail upgrading works on the Slovenian side of the border as i encountered last year). I have also "crossed"this path, or the part from Italy heading towards Ljubljana and onto Zagreb/Belgrade/Budapest back in 2009 when I took a seat on the Casanova Euronight night train that used to run from Venice. It would be so cool if that international night train was re-established. I agree that if they were going to use the Flirts for regional and international routes of 1.5hrs +, then they should've been fitted with seat back tables. That"s pretty poor by today's standards. However like you on the plus side, when I took these flirts on domestic services last year, I found them pretty comfortable.

@@SuperalbsTravels Norway literally just bought same new trains from Stadler (FLIRT).. it is "just" equipped with sleeping cabins.. which i agree with you.. for destination like this (very long and very far) is necessary.
You should join the inaugural Arriva RE18 tri-country journey departing Liège at 07:08 hrs. on Sunday, 30 June taking you to Aachen via Maastricht. The Maastricht/Aachen section has been operating since January 2019. The Stadler FLIRTs have three voltages capability; 3kV DC in BE, 1.5kV DC in NL and 15kV AC in DE. The units each have two pantographs, one for the DC voltages and the other for AC. The new rolling stock will replace the sad looking NMBS/SNCB cars between Liège and Maastricht. The only downside is that for the short term the Dutch OV Chipkaart cannot be used on the journey through to Liège.
You should do a video of the new train between Belgrade>Bar and how the overall experience changed. It just started to go there few days ago. It's the newest Stadler FLIRT
@@SuperalbsTravels Depends how you look at it. Compared to second class on the old train.. this one is MUCH better.. because it has air con.. it's new.. more comfy seats.. and there will not be allowed smoking 100% inside which many people complained about... what it is missing is sleeping cabins.. i REALLY hope this is just temporary solution until they completely renovate the line Belgrade>Bar. I think that the night train to Bar is still the old one though.

Hi from Slovenia. Nice video! Well done. I was on a similar trip from Ljubljana to Rijeka on a international train last summer. Sadly you did not have nice views along the way, because the view from Sapjane to Rijeka can really be spectacular. Have you traveled from Divaca to Koper? If not do it in next two years, or there will be an alternative tunnel track drastically reducing travel time and much less interesting. Check also Divaca - Pula connection, I think that it is the last year with retro variant (zelenec), next year there will be Stadler in service.
This is not the only train that runs in 3 different countries. There is also the 3 countries train (drielandentrein in Dutch) which starts at Aachen in Germany, goes via Heerlen and Maastricht in the Netherlands and goes to Liege in Belgium ;).
@SuperalbsTravels I hope you will soon. I much prefer your down-to-earth reviews to those of sponsored channels who only travel by the most luxurious way possible. Keep good work!
Omg, another dumb serbian, nope, in fact italy and croatia signed a treaty, before croatia entered schengen, some year earlier during the preparations, treaty about eternal non changing of the border lines between our countries, in other words they give up on istria forever, we give up on trieste forever, and in that treaty we also split entire adriatic in half on our two respective exclusive economic zones, just our two countries. Anyways you don't have nor will ever get such a treaty with hungary, and they already have vojvodina by realestate they bought and their political party there, in the first crisus that happen it will only be formalised finally, and kosovo, well that's long time gone already - but nice try serb, from the new year electronic visas if you wanna enter civilisation, think about that for a change.
In the past, that journey would not have been an international one since the whole area of the line this train travelled were Italian territory (even Rijeka itself was Italian and still has the headquarters of the Italian Minority institutions in Croatia). Indeed for €8.00 it is quite a bargain for an international train. Sadly, it will be long before they even consider to extend this service to Trieste since those trains are not equipped with the right voltage required to travel into Italy and indeed it is faster to teavel from Villa Opicina to Trieste by bus due to the long loop that trains need to get to enter into the city as a result of its landscape
I really like Slovenia and SZ. Trains are cheap and they really care about passengers e.g. making sure changing trains works. These new trains also run internationally to Graz and to the borders of Croatia (Dobova and Metlika) as well as to Koper. Sadly they don't run this one to/from Trieste station which would have been absolutely fantastic. Seeing the SZ-fleet approved for Croatia in the future they can hopefully run those to Zagreb as well. For now there seem to border checks going in the opposite direction from Croatio to Slovenia even without loco change.
I've seen those trains running thru croatia at least a year ago or more even, on rail fans video clips, they were running homologation trials on croatian rails to be able to run there, always asked in the comments what for it's done, but nobody gave an answer, and now a year or two more probably later, there's a line in operation, can't understand what took them so long..
Very nice video! A very unique one as well! Do you know if this train is available on Interrail? Btw, imagine if this line used pendolinos! We could see a Slovenian Pendolino and an Italian one coupled
It is valid with Interrail as far as I know, as it is just a regular train. No seat reservation or payment needed. Slovenian Pendolinos used to run through Villa Opicina in the past, by the way, and continued to Venice... Service details: www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak.php?zeme=S%C5%BD&kategorie=EC&cislo=50&nazev=Casanova&rok=2004 www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak.php?zeme=TI&kategorie=EC&cislo=51&nazev=Casanova&rok=2004 Some pictures: www.railfaneurope.net/pix/si/electric/emu/310/001-002/Venezia/
Slovenian pendolinos are single system, so they could do the Italy and Slovenia part of the trip (as they share the same electrification system), but not the Croatian part. That said, given there's only 3 of them, I doubt they would use them for a non Ljubljana Maribor route.
Too bad the train doesn't continue to Trieste Centrale or maybe Udine/Venice in italy, having to take a bus to Villa Opicina will be a great detriment to passenger numbers, hopefully it's just due to the very long process of certification of new traction units in italy...
Indeed, this type of train is actually not authorised for Italy, and is only allowed to Villa Opicina under special authorisation. Hopefully they can get the paperwork through quickly! 😁
If you like trains going between three countries, from the end of this month there should be a train between Liège (Belgium), Maastricht and Heerlen (Netherlands) and Aachen (Germany). Although it's an existing train that is extended to Belgium, so this Slovenian will remain Europe's newest international train for some more time.
I was slightly wrong about the cost of a bike reservation! Whilst a journey within Slovenia or there to/from Italy costs €1.50 or €3 for an e-bike, if you travel to Croatia, this costs €5 instead.

😍😍😍
Interesting, I probably won't make that launch, but I'll have to think about coming back and checking it out another time.
You should do a video of the new train between Belgrade>Bar and how the overall experience changed.
It just started to go there few days ago.
It's the newest Stadler FLIRT
It is so much worse... 😭
Would you be able to a review on the intercity or sleeper service here next? Your pendolino review video was great and that driver wasn't lying when he said that he didn't know how long your train was going to be there! 😅
Where is "here"? 😁
@@SuperalbsTravels here in Finland 🤪
@@JaniTrains Ah yes, I've filmed both. They'll be out in the future sometime! :)
@SuperalbsTravels it was actually Croatian Music that guy sang. And it is more like Chanson, only performed by Opera Singer. But you are really good in Knowing lot of countries, and saying local words on right way, wich is really hard to see from any viewer.you are natural talent for languages it seems.
Thank you so much! 😁
Hopefully, they will raise the platforms on this route so that travelers with wheelchairs can use this accessible train without any obstacles.
That would be another great step (if you pardon the pun)!
Never been to Koper sadly, hope to do so soon before that line opens! :)
Also I want to try the green train. :)
@@SuperalbsTravels Yes you better get on the Type 711 before it also disappears soon.
7:37 EN57❤It's a shame it's so neglected though.
Yeah, hopefully they restore it for preservation now. :)
Kibel ❤
Boa viagem lindo trem show 0:45bom excelente Europa internacional trem
Thanks!
This is not the only train that runs in 3 different countries. There is also the 3 countries train (drielandentrein in Dutch) which starts at Aachen in Germany, goes via Heerlen and Maastricht in the Netherlands and goes to Liege in Belgium ;).
I know, I have even caught trains that travel through six countries! 😁
Hey I love your videos!! Do you think you’ll film the trip in December when the high speed Novi Sad-Subotica line opens? Thank you
A little bit more than a hundred years ago the entire region belonged to Austria. I think the station in Villa Opicina was built in these times.
Very cool merch.
For sure, one for the collection. 😁
Do you reckon this is the most useful train in the world for intercity trains?
Did you have an opportunity to review the Croatian-built trains for local and regional service as the one seen at 11:23 ?
Not yet!
@SuperalbsTravels I hope you will soon. I much prefer your down-to-earth reviews to those of sponsored channels who only travel by the most luxurious way possible.
Keep good work!
This train almost looks like greater angelia train, the train which runs from london Liverpool street to Norwich.
Both made by Stadler of Switzerland
Yep, same manufacturer and design!
One step closer to Istria joining Italy.
The interior looks ver similar to the Arriva trains in The Netherlands
9:55 It's Drink O'clock somewhere in the world 🌎🍻😄
Exactly! 😂
Interesting how much borders have changed throughout history!
You should try the fairly new Riga-Vilnius international train that started operating in December 2023
I'd love to get back to the Baltics some time. Hopefully soon.
Will you be doing the next newest International train (Aachen - Maastricht - Liege)?
Not sure yet! :)
Can you please review the Östgötatrafiken Östgötapenden, it would make my year
Not sure, I'll have to look into it. :)
Agreed, Slovenia is a place I need to explore some more!
Why doesn’t it connect to Trieste? It’s a very big city and it’s only a couple of kilometres away from Villa Opiccina.
This type of train is actually not authorised for Italy, and is only allowed to Villa Opicina under special authorisation.
Are there plans to authorise it in the future?
@@Chamarel I'm not sure about that.
That is NOT bad weather.
It certainly isn't good weather! :)
Looks like class 455
Very nice video! A very unique one as well! Do you know if this train is available on Interrail?
Btw, imagine if this line used pendolinos! We could see a Slovenian Pendolino and an Italian one coupled
Top 10 anime crossovers?
I'm pretty sure something would randomy explode if you connected the two :D
It is valid with Interrail as far as I know, as it is just a regular train. No seat reservation or payment needed.
Slovenian Pendolinos used to run through Villa Opicina in the past, by the way, and continued to Venice...

Slovenian pendolinos are single system, so they could do the Italy and Slovenia part of the trip (as they share the same electrification system), but not the Croatian part.
That said, given there's only 3 of them, I doubt they would use them for a non Ljubljana Maribor route.
@@SuperalbsTravels Oh, thats very cool!
@@grizeldiSLO Yea thats true, it isn't meant to be realistic
The Balkans really need faster and more trains.
I agree 100%!
Did you know that Opatija used to host a motorcycle race from 1969 (nice) to 1977 that was valid for the world championship (aka MotoGP)?
Oh wow, that's cool! 😁
I think the reason they didn't order any seat back table is clearly shown on the photo at 7:36
What do you mean? 😂
Nice one, maybe I will try it out some time! :)
