I'm so glad his story didn't have a tragic ending. It's nice to see him settle down and get old doing what he loves.
Definitely.
If there was one person I never thought I would see being incredibly humble and down to earth.... it's Anton Newcombe
Couldn’t agree more. So happy Anton can still pull it together and make magic. It’s something special.
This didn't age well.
@dangerdave7223 Beat me to it
I feel really lucky to have lived and grown up in the age of Anton Newcombe. He's probably the most incredibly talented musician and creative artists breathing air, and to see him still doing his thing is awesome. I've been saying this since seeing BJM in the early 90s...I can't wait to hear his next song!
One of the best songwriters of our time, respect from Scotland.
Saw him last tuesday. unbelievable musician. He has calmed down so much since Dig!
1:32 finally someone fucking gets it. I definitely see certain "organic" genres (like post punk and hip hop in general) as modern folk music. Anton fuckin rocks
Anton wears that guy's outfit better than he does.
I'm glad that he stayed weird and stayed creative, but got his life more stable. He really had some rough times in the past but he got thru it and now he's a legend in the psych rock community
psych rock and punk rock. And lo-fi. And bedroom rock. Up there with McCartney in my book.
This is a great interview. I wish it were longer. I am a fan of Brian jonestown massacre, and finally get to see them play live for the first time :)
where is the full interview, this is literally the most straightforward I've ever seen Anton. I want more.
He’s just so great. I really love sober Anton. I really hope he comes back later this year or in 2025 I just crushes it again.
This makes me so happy. The guy that legitimate genius and it looked really Grim for a while that the world was going to lose an amazing artist.
Respect! Nothing wrong with a bit of mainstream exposure. He is a genius afterall..
I watched the BJM at the canteen in Barrow-in-Furness and had a pint with one of the guitarist's after the performance. Amazing night
upload the whole interview, please!
Great interview. Anton has never looked or sounded better.
Focused on family = very cool.
Unbelievable album after album 👏
What a great interview.... So proud of you Anton . LOVE
Anton looks happy... nobody deserves it more.
what a great interview. Way to go both.
I love this man
Adore you Anton…you genius!
I back Anton, he's staight up and real..
I guess you could say he's Straight Up and Down?
The man’s a fucking genius. End of.
Love you, Anton. You're a fucking genius and like Prince, so far ahead of our time that it will take decades to take your full measure as an artist. It's a minor miracle that you're still with us in the flesh, so hard was your life in earlier stages. I hope that like Keith Richards you cannot be killed with conventional weapons. Rock on, brother, and I look forward to seeing you in concert and buying your records any time and every time it's possible.
+Dash Riprock Thank You Dash. You've taken the words out of my mouth captivating all my feelings. Rock on brother! Hope you get on Dead TV some day too
Genius? Never wrote a hit tune in his life. Put's out good work and a talented musician - but nowhere near "great" in output nor quality. Bands have surpassed him 20+ years ago.
yeah, I mean, I like BJM but basically Anton repeats himself since 30 years@@anthonyv1719
Seems to have found some peace finally
so excited to see you guys in Portland 5/25! I had a double compound fracture too, and opiates became my friend. luckily I won the battle!
He's so chill and coherent now
Thank you for sharing, really I mean that this time, helps me to understand my same addictions and stuff.
I find it interesting that the interviewer makes the assumption that A. N. was not disciplined before he became a family man. As I discover the consistent high quality in his (and the BJM) considerable body of work through the years, I can only conclude that he and his collaborators were primarily dedicated to their craft.
StanleyGoldbrik Did you watch the documentary Dig! He’s a great musician and very dedicated, but I would not call someone who was constantly doing heroin and starting fights ‘disciplined’.
@@ashleylesiak4114... Ashley you make a good point. However his body of work speaks for its self. I've watched Dig! three times, and it is an entertaining MOVIE.
I just got tickets for Oct show in Seattle. So excited!!!!
is there any way of getting an uncut version of this? probably not... but i feel this was cut way too short for tv.
Anton is a legend
yes
Utter legend
1:10-1:45 is a great statement, all musicians want to aspire to be something but it can seem impossible to reach! BJM is brilliant and very talented but they sell the sizzle, they provide a particular feeling “a mood”........ that competes with the very best of musicians.
"We just want you to be yourself, you see"
he's got the roy orbison thing going on....dope...
he is a genious
Neil Young is ageing well.
❤️
The interviewer knows absolutely nothing about music in general or Anton's work in particular. He's not a journalist in a true sense of the word which means actually knowing something about what you're broadcasting to ther world. Thanks for this anyway, thanks Anton for being the bright shining light in the music world.
The people who still don't realize that Dig! was as manipulated and role-cast and directed as Survivor or any "Reality TV".... get some media education :=)
+santtu9000 They were actually selling the Dig thing to MTV...
+knarr trey Courtney Taylor-Taylor: "Courtney: You know, that’s (“Dig!”) not a documentary,
it’s a movie and reality TV hadn’t been invented yet, so… Nobody really
understood that, they thought that was real. I don’t think there was
anything that we said in that entire movie that wasn’t told to us to say
or do."

+santtu9000 DIG partly exploitive rock-umentary DIG served creating awareness BJTM & Dandies. Anton glad your still around! Thank God formedication! :)
+santtu9000 I agree that the interviewer has no background to interview Mr. Newcombe. But I still find Antons revelations to be interesting enough to like the interview overall.
Couldn't agree more.
Why is the interviewer so condescending? Anton is the man!
_originalninja when dis he say anything condescending
So much
Could someone please name the song at 3:53
It's 'Servo' - ruclips.net/video/zwSXoTNVvNE/видео.html
💓💓💓
I was there and it wasn't fake-DIG!
How do you mean? I'm interested
Last time I spoke with Courtney Taylor-Taylor: "You...DO realize that was more a...movie, than it was 'a documentary', right?"
the thing is, this bolke had a singular vision and didnt force anyone to join him in his quest. he didn't subject anyone of his cranky members to anything...he wrote the fucking songs. leave him to it
Something about him reminds me of Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue
Anton fucking rules
Watch how Guru-Murthy practically jumps out of his chair with smugness, the second he thinks he's got inside you. Awful. Still, thank you for a great interview AN.
On what planet is he a rock star?
the morphine for a broken arm story reminds me of Coleridge's explanation for getting into opium which was for his swelling knees.
That's a stretch. And isn't that every junkies "story" for why they became junkies?
Wasn't coleridge a 'junky'?
+Alexander Swann I guess I'm just not comfortable w you comparing this clown to someone of Coleridges league.
i wouldnt say its every junkie but definitely its a great way to be introduced to hard hitting drugs (i,e, really physically addictive shit liek opiates) and if you have an addictive personality, that can be GG,. Physicians need to be more careful giving that sort of stuff out..
It actually IS the reason why a huge majority of people use heroin, they got hurt for something, were prescribed pain meds, and it was too expensive so they started using heroin.
hate those sideburns but man is he an amazing musician
those are nothing against what he has now
Don't hate on th' chops!
What is he talking about?
Anthony can learm how to keep cells from degenerating or reverse degenerstion of cells.Ageing is stopping or reversing degeneration of cells.N o b o d y,especially genius musicians like him need to buy into the myth of ageing.I recommend a visit to either www.thebiosanctuary.com or www.treeoflife.nu
Glad, Anthony has a family now.Keeps him grounded. This band is one of my alltime favorite bands. They should open up for the ROLLING STONES one of these years ....
He looks very Dwight Schrute in this interview
0:57
🤔
Spinal Tap
02:16 - touches nose when lying. not hating but that is solid CLASSIC body language, extremely common
Well…. He looks like Jim Jones
am i the only one that hears an annoying high pitched tone during the interview?
Why the fuck is Anton wearing a turtleneck and blazer???
He has done well .. he was pretty fucked up
he dosnt look a day over 50 ,,,,,,,,,
That's cos he's like 48
So glad Zach galafinakis shapes up
normal person...ha ha ha ha ha
He was much more entertaining when he was drug crazy.....
wow anton got old and.... turtle-neck suit'y :/
Rock star? BJM has never been that big. The best song writers usually don't achieve mainstream success. He's sucessful enough to keep making music but rock star?...no.
+Dj13e36 You just don't have a fucking idea.
+Giovanni Capineri It wasn't an insult.
+Dj13e36 Actually, you are quite correct! To be a rock star is to want fame; to be an artist, as Anton is, is to crave something more!
nah that is not completely correct. you can be a rock star and an artist. being a rock star might be more a capitalistic term, like a pop star, a movie star, it does not necessary say something about the actual product you are producing.
He wasn't good enough to be a rockstar. Period. His tortured artist schtick is played out.
Terrible interviewer ....par for the course with channel 4 news though.
anton cant write a up beat song to save his life,,,, just saying,,
+MrV2rocket Yes he can...
+MrV2rocket food for clouds, what you isnt, goodbye butterfly
+MrV2rocket Hey, really big fan of your rockets man.
And, who really fuckin' cares? There's still Monkees and Partridge Family records out there for ya. They were very peppy and upbeat.
+MrV2rocket Who cares if it's up beat or down beat long as it's a good song...
+MrV2rocket That's what he's got Matt Hollywood for, Anton's deeper than that
He was no where near talented enough to have a tragic ending
