Thanks for posting this awsome train cab view video. In my lifetime, I have been able to go inside the cab of an engine twice....and naturally, both times, they were stpped. LOL!!
In 2007 I rode Amtrak from K-falls to Seattle. We arrived late,of course but an enjoyable trip. My father and grandfather worked for the U.P. so I rode the train for free often in the 50s & 60s. This trip brought back a lot of old memories. Today I carry a 1911 Hamilton 992 pocket watch. Any connection to my roots?
Great video. I grew up in Southern Oregon/Rogue Valley. Was sad to see UP not re-invest in the line from Weed to Eugene thru the Rogue Valley, but good to see activity still nearby in K Falls. I'd love to do a short ride like this.
Shipmate I grew up in Medford late 70's and later 80's, went to Southern Oregon State College, now SOU, worked my ass off at Boise Cascade, moved up the coast. Couldn't believe how much sprawl now compromises so much of the Rogue valley now. Miss fishing and hunting down there and the Rogue River.
Shipmate I couldn't believe how far real estate prices fell during the recession, and see that they are climbing back up again and things really aren't that much better. I remember the influx of California's coming up and driving real estate prices up artificially. I will never move back there again.
You get north of Medford and prices aren't that bad though... like Grants Pass and above. The area doesn't have enough high paying jobs to keep house prices up.
Shipmate For sure, totally agree. I still stop in Gold Hill and see my best friends mom whenever I pass through. He died from injuries sustained in a work accident, anyway, she bought a nice place there for not a whole lot. My family owned a few rentals when I was growing up and I was amazed how fast they went when they were listed. We used to run around up in the hills north of G.P. looking for mines etc. I jumped off of that train trestle in Gold Hill during high school on a bet. I climbed to the top and went for it. I can't believe the shit we used to do. One guy that jumped off of that trestle, actually landed on a dead cow that was floating down the river and became paralyzed. I never jumped off of it again but did the spillway and the bridges at Applegate Lake and near Carberry Creek as you head into Cook and Green back up there. My uncle still has a place north of Ruch still. I nearly bought my grandmothers place on Jville hwy, but family politics ruined that.
Had no idea this was gonna take place in Klammath Falls (lived there 2 years). When it showed that first autorack train, I said "man that looks like Klammath Lake!!" Good video.
@BoostedB16A90 Get lucky :-) Back in the mid 90's i lived in a small town and would go watch the train as it stopped to offload cargo at one of the local factories. The engineer noticed i was there all the time watching, and one day asked if i would like a ride a few miles or so down the tracks to his next stop. If that fails there is a R.R. museum in California in which you can pay to operate a locomotive for an hour (under supervision of course). I did that as well.
10 Loads, 63 Empties. I love how anything that goes north are nothing but empty cans and extra motors when almost everything south needs at least one DPU.
@cycoo The bell is required by federal law and used as a warning device along with the horn. The bell is rung when passing other trains where someone may be crossing over.
@EMD710G Thank you. If you stop on an upgrade and the train istretched out, is it more difficulto gethe whole train moving since you can not get one-car-moving-at-a-time as slack is incrementally taken up?
@BlackWolfessUSCM I meant they charge by the hour. We actually paid for three hrs operating time in it. But that's awesome you get to work on a U-boat! Most of us poor schmucks aren't that lucky. The closest to that i ever got is taking a tour of the U.S.S Blueback in Portland, which was cool because the man giving the tour was one of the former crew of it.
It is mentioned that there is 360 gallons of fuel in the locomotive. If by chance the first locomotive were to run out of fuel, can the other five push the first one? Just curious. :)
Haha, notice the ductape on the corner just to the left of the mic at 4:25. Bet the access panel for the radio is broken and falling off or it has been replaced by a piece of cardboard.
@salemcripple I'm doing more then "An Hour" at my local railroad museum. We restored a BN U-Boat and I'm currently her operating Cab Conductor. Museum says in 5 more volunteer years they'll take my application for engineer Apprenticeship :)
"Power braking...will be the way to go..." With 10 years as an engineer on UP's competitor railway, pulling out of yard in the method you mentioned is a horrible practice. Looking at the track chart for Klamath Falls, the grade is an ascending 1% grade leaving the yard, that is why the train is not just floating out of the yard. Putting a minimum set on this train with it's 63 empties would pretty much stop it right here, or burn a hell of a lot more diesel to keep it moving.
@MrCagivaman Dude the throttle was in like notch 1 of 8 and 3 of loco's were dead in tow. Relax. haha if they wanted to rip off the drawbars they could just put it in full throttle.
Your trains are much, much, much lighter and go very short distances. Trains in the US, Mexico, Canada and other countries in the Americas travel much further distances moving much heavier trains. Hope that answers your question
Good video - shame the operator kept adjusting the engine governor every 20 seconds - the train is 5300 feet long which is just over a mile! constant engine speed adjustments are meaningless with that sheer tonnage. Anyways it was a god intro and the following videos were great also - not a criticism at you but a word to the not so wise operator
Can't believe I had to skip to 1:18 to the content. Does our time not mean anything to you? One day I'm going to add up all the time I spent watching youtube intros that tell me what I already knew when I clicked and realize I wasted a couple of years.
dobb673 Who the Fuck are you buddy if you have anymore stupid comments to make then i can report you to youtube and stay the hell out and don't comment on any videos any more and it looks like your a 7 year old anyways and i am 23 years old so leave me the hell alone now. And quit Attacking people

I went back to visit family and thought the same. But it looks like the area was hit hard from the Recession. Not much has changed past 5 years.

Very cool! That's something on my bucket list for sure!
do trains get to keep mini fridges on them??

3:38 did that guy back up into the wall??
did that truck in the beginning hit the building?
Of course that depends on the railroad.
In many operations smoking is strictly prohibited.
Engine wheel slip at 8:04?
When departing from stopped, must one very gently take up slack to avoid overstressing a coupler and breaking it?

No, too many problems.
Wow I enjoyed this video an the rest, where is part 4 an on at?
Cool! thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed the ride.
What's the name of this song? Love it
Why do trains run so slowly? here in the Czech Republic they ride 200 km / h
What happened to part 4?
That looks way cooler than my job! Oh wait....
Why nowadays locomotives in USA still has the ringing bell?
@CSXAC6000CW Most likely the fuel gauge is messed up, very common problem.
Was this taken on the track that was used by the Amtrak Pioneer until it was discontinued in 1997?
I salute you for your service!
DARN!!!!
how fast do they run where u took the beginning shot? at 0:15
What year?
They can hold from 170 gallons to 5800 gallons depending on each Locomtoive model and the owner custom specs .
CONGRATULATION FOR YOUR JOB!MAKES WITH PRIDE! from north east italy.

Those things had a a problem with b/o fuel gauges
Great that Santa is the conductor
@MrCagivaman Speed restriction while the train is in the yard.
How can you have 6 Loco's at the front and still be doing 8 mph ??????
Because of the extreme weight. You don't understand the scale of American freight trains...
Great video!
Being that i work for CSX for a number of years they normaly call that taking the engines of line.Anyway nice vid!
nice video 😀
Damn, that consist was booking. I'm guessing he was doing 75+ mph in the first shot?
Lmao
i wish UP wasnt so harsh on their rules :(
anyone know what model train horn that is?
K3LA
How can you have 6 Loco's at the front and still be doing 8 mph ?????? American diesels are awesome though.
great video
nice video
@masonclan We've always had a bell.
Wow nice!!!!!!
not all trains run 40 mph. Depends on the section track, and what you're hauling. Amtrak runs 70. Loaded coal runs 50.
Ale dobré a hezké video
Kool Cab
@BigM161 K3LA or K3HA by Airchime/Nathan.
i filmed one train at the grade crossing seen at 4:48 into the clip.

They hold and burn diesel .
It would have been hysterical if they would have killed that train at Wocus or Algoma!
Low fuel 380 gallons geez .

I was the operator.. When you pull out of a 10MPH yard at 1% ascending grade, It's the way we do it pal.

take a look at how many people have watched the video and you must be that dumb to make such a comment in the first place
GRE 2057
What does the number of watches have to do with the first minute+ of nothing? Do you have any meaningful response or just personal attacks?

omg its a fema train carrying innocent citizens to fema death camps!
