  • Our "Victory Garden" which is really just our normal garden, is producing WILD amounts of food this year despite very little rain.

      Which is incredibly fortunate, given the amount that the garden is producing. I have been so enjoying the garden this year! Thanks for taking the adventure with me.

      Thanks so much! We are getting an exceptional harvest this year. There is just something very fun, and satisfying, about growing things, and especially things you can eat. And the physical activity is paying double dividends!

    Wow! That's a heck of a lot of zucchini! And to think you've harvested well over 200 pounds of it so far- this batch alone was like the weight of a 3 year old... you guys must be sleeping well at nights!

      Wow! Just yesterday (I swear to God that is true) Bev and I were talking about you, and that I had not written back yet, for which I am sorry, but life has been, well, busy to say the least. Incidentally I keep a detailed spreadsheet on the garden and we are rapidly approaching the 1/4 ton mark on harvested produce. I am not even certain where it is all going! But between the vegetable heavy diet and the seven day a week exercise routine I have lost 15 pounds since mid March. Anyway, yes we are well and doing okay for now. On top of everything else we have canned 139 cans of various sizes so far this canning season.

      @@Realunitedstates it's impressive! (The amount and the weight loss). Everything you were showing looked so good!
      I saw a video earlier today about making 'pineapple candy' out of zucchini ruclips.net/video/uwLvbUMtNB4/видео.html and fell down a hole of zucchini as other things the best of which was canned pineapple zucchini- if you're looking for any experimental recipes or uses for that zucchini ther are a lot more of them out there than you might think! Haha

      It's great to hear from you! It has been a long time, and I have wondered how you were. We are both well, and as I mentioned we are in fact both losing weight from all the exercise of gardening. LOL! Back in Michigan now, so, things are different. Hope your safe and well.

      Hey Terry, great to hear from you! We've been staying out of trouble and working hard on the garden, canning and various stuff around the house. I suspect it has been terribly hot and humid there! I am told that even in Maryland it has been really hot as well. Here, the days are hot, too hot, but the nights are cool and occasionally downright cold. Thanks and take care!

      @@Realunitedstates I really miss the cool evenings where you can open the windows for some fresh air and maybe a breeze. It doesn't get below 72 with a dew point of 74 so it's just too sticky to do that. On the flip side I've eaten Christmas dinner here outside in shorts & t shirt so...

      Hey Zia! Good to hear from you. Yes, we are safe and doing well. We devote a lot of time and effort to our garden because we enjoy it so much. Do to the current state of the world, the garden is one of the few things a person can do with no terrible concern, and in addition to the wonderful food it produces there has been the exercise that has been very beneficial.

    Some champion sized zucchini there! We called them Marrows when they are that size and Courgette's when small over here. Have you tried 'stuffed Marrow'? Stuffed with other chopped vegetables and sometimes minced meat and baked in an oven. You can't beat growing your own, you know exactly what they have been fed and / or sprayed with! Butternut Squash too.

      In general we let most of ours get big before picking. Bev has prepared them in the oven, but we haven't done any stuffed. Often we chunk them up and steam them, or occasionally pan fry, or even deep fry them. Occasionally I fine dice them and serve them raw in pasta salad or other cold dishes.

      That it so very sweet. I don't know if we wil return to YT; perhaps. Life has taken us in a different direction for now, and time constraints being what they are, there is no time or opportunity to make new video at the moment. But who knows what the future holds. Thanks.

    You don't upload a video verry often but its a harvest time and this sunday no float in in Michigan because of the coronavirus.

      True we don't upload as often as we once did. Many things are different than they once were, for a variety of reasons, so we do what we can, when we can. Harvest time and canning season keep us pretty busy.

      Hey Evan! Good to hear from you! Well, no we probably won't be buying any zucchini any time soon. At least not until the dead of winter perhaps when we get the hankering for some fresh. Thus far this year we have harvested over 250 pounds of zucchini alone! It what we do in quarantine. :-)

    Nothing like harvesting crops from your own garden! If you want to make something really good with zuchinnis I recommend cookinpolish.com/polish-leczo/ - its also really good thing to can it for winter.

      Thanks so much. We have canned quite a lot of both the zucchini and the yellow squash. We love canning and enjoy our canned goods all year long, so this works out pretty good.

    I thought "Market Gardening" was an operation where you air dropped your veggies on cities in the Netherlands only to have them picked up by German tourists instead.
    On a serious note I find the flavor of large zuch and squash like that to be less than the flavor of veggies that are picked earlier. I would assume that by the time they reach the giant stage they would be very bland. Is that not the case?

      That in fact is not the case. There is comparatively little, if any, difference in taste. We prefer to have them large for variety of reasons. The small diameter ones are really only good for ratatouille confit byaldi.

      @@Realunitedstates Now that's an interesting insight. Why do the store purchased large zuch lack so much flavor in your opinion? I guess I'll have to grow some try them out.

      Honestly I have never found large ones in the grocery store, only at farm markets or farmers markets. If you're getting one at a store that lacks flavor there are a few possible reasons, but most likely it is the conditions they were grown under. Same is true for tomatoes. Large doesn't necessarily mean no flavor, but forced growth can sometimes cause that.

They are using your image (picture) and calling themselves Real United States.. they told me about how they got a lot of money through a government program. Then they explained that I could do it too and it would only cost me $1500 to start the paperwork.. That’s when I realized it was a Scamstir on Instagram.
