  • Ashlynn Rynd, the best friend of Tylee Ryan, took the stand on Monday afternoon in Chad Daybell's trial to describe what she noticed about the family dynamic between Tylee, JJ, Alex Cox, Lori Vallow, and Charles Daybell. Rynd said things began to feel "off" between her and Tylee after the 16-year-old moved to Idaho, which concerned her.

What was the point of her testimony if you are not going to dive deep? Why did communications fall off? Did Tylee confide in her? So many questions left unasked. And I thought the defense was going to make the prosecution case for them, but then she objected and it was sustained.😮

I think Tylee was becoming aware of what Lori was doing. She was present when Charles was murdered, and must have questioned Lori's lies. Unfortunately she trusted Lori's and Alex's love for her. It was inevitable that she had to go. Lori could no longer cope with JJ without Tylee and the money she expected. I think Alex actually cared for the kids and was sick of all the killing.

Because John Pryor has been systematically dehumanizing, disrespecting and sometimes being really offensive when he is describing all three victims, it was very important for the state to show to the jury who Tylee really was. Chad hated her, but now we saw that it was due to his own nasty insecurity and narcisism, and not through any fault of Tylee. Tylee was NOT "a handfull," a disobedient and "difficult teenager" or anything else that Pryor was describing her as. She was a typical vivacious, clever teenage girl, who was having fun with her friends and being very caring and supportive of her little brother. This is a very important testimony about who she was through her best friend; it had nothing to do with the Lori/Chad dynamic and it is a short but loving portrayal of a girl who was innocently murdered and inhumanely dismembered. It gave the jury another, fresh and totally different perspective on Tylee's life and personality, away from Pryor's dark and vile manipulations and back into the reality. This testimony was not about retrieving any crime evidence; it was all about restoring Tylee's reputation and being a character reference for the dead girl who cannot contradict Chad's and Pryor's lies about her.

I agree. I was confused when they said no further questions. Like what was the point of that? They didn’t really even ask any personal questions about Tylee so I’m not sure how the testimony humanizes her other to say that she was a teenager and she had a friend and she cared about her brother but I feel like the jury probably already knew those things.
