Not the GTi, but I own an interesting example of the 1.4 tsi Twincharged Golf mk6 that's an Estate, also imported from Japan. It's not anywhere near ready for showing off, but I'd be up for talking over it with you one day when it is! This GTi is beautiful and so well maintained. Great video of a great car!
I assumed this was going to be a "normal" Golf mk5 estate (which are pretty rare anyway in the UK) converted to GTi spec - had no idea these very ever made from the factory!
it is converted bodywise, came from japan with the 2.0 tfsi but wasnt labelled the gti, just an engine choice, think it was called ths sportsline or smthn
@@hugopetch7012 interesting. I worked in vw Scotland about 12 years ago and a few mk5 golf wagons had these engines fitted. They were for undercover police tho but yea no gti trim or that
Lovely looking car, perfect all rounder which ticks every box. An estate version of a hot hatch wins in my opinion everytime! Great choice of wheels and colour etc, not sure I'd change a thing!
In the states in 2009 they made the “Jetta” “sportwagen” with a first gen EA888 2.0 tsi with both dsg (more rare) and 02q 6 speed manual. However not the all black interior (don’t know if this had it stock) I happen to have one, after watching this I am now ordering more parts! Cool car guys!
Super interesting, we have a BUNCH of these imported into New Zealand from japan, a lot with the horrific 1.4 twincharged engine but a lot with the 2.0tfsi. Great cars!
I've had the 2.0tfsi one for a couple years now, first NZ owner had only 59,000kms when I got it too. Such a great car. I wanna do this conversion and get it full GTI spec exterior.
There was a JDM mk6 2016 GTi estate up for sale a few months back, very plain with no GTi badging up front, very basic stereo and steering wheel. Had 970 miles from new and was just over 10 grand, has since been bought but haven't seen it come back up anywhere yet?
Amazing mk5 golf gti estate, overall the perfect daily drive, excellent condition totally agree with the prices of caddy and you have made the Wright decision 🙏 you can chase power but then you lose reliability possibly 350 then it will would be a good all rounder, take it to Will at vrs Northampton.
Absolutely love it, was not aware these even existed. One thing though, if you want to go Stage 2+ an upgraded fuel pump is recommended so you don't run into fueling issues when you go on. Plus it won't make the best figures without one.
I have one of these, and it’s the dogs 👌🏻 Can you please give me some info on what you or the previous owner did with the interior to change from cream to black? I’m assuming a lot of the hatch (5 door) trims will fit, but the headliner… obviously that’s longer in the wagon… Also, what has been done to the tail lights, are they from mk6 wagon, and if so, which model? Thanks bud Just to say also, what you and the previous owner have done to it is completely within keeping it f the OEM look and I love it!!!
Thank you for the kind comments. The headliner was completely taken out and dyed and plastics sprayed. And the tail lights are standard mk6 ones, but the lower part is tinted with some lens spray.
In the USA they offered a similar vehicle but only for MY09 but the engine was the TSi from a MK6 GTi. They only made 1300 manuals and 1700 DSG versions of the car. It had every known MKV option like leather power memory seats. But not Xenon lights or GTI bumper. It was sold as a Jetta SEL but underneath the car was a GTI. I had one for many years, bigger turbo and full bolt ons, KW V3 big VWR brakes all around. Same Votex rear wing as this...
Always cool to see a rare car. What’s the chassis/handling like? The Mk5 GTI is known for having great balance (I’m on my second now), just wondered if you lose anything from the longer wheelbase/extra weight?
Never understood why VW made the R estate, but neglected to do the GTI. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the only engine never to see an estate body in the UK
very cool. shame the tfsi engine is junk. recently bought a audi a3 tfsi and the engine is toast. so much can go wrong with them its hard to pinpoint the issues
@@bmorris5863 no, the engine Japan got was similar to BPY that was in 06-08 GTi sold in the USA. 08.5-14 GTi (and GLI+Jetta in the USA) had CCTA/CBFA which is chain driven. Completely different engine, I know because my wife had a 08 GTi with the BPY/timing belt engine, and I had a 09 SportWagen with the CCTA (first year of the SportWagen, and only year with the MKV front end).
@@liamhunt5333 they are. Mine doesn't have the mk5 gti front end like yours, mine looks more like an R32 due to the Biscay blue paint and tall chrome grille. The hidden feature of the DSG in the wagon, launch control. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Looks awesome - edition 30 bumper really sets it off
Yeah, it makes it look so much better. And the skirts. 👍🏼
I'm in ireland but I have a mk 6 estate in black. 1.4 tsi.i love it, quick and pretty unique
Same in jamaica
Thanks Luke. Love how the video has come out. Car looks cleaner than I remember it being on the day. 😅
Love a wagon
Especially a fast wagon
My favourite type of cars
Ticks all boxes ✅

Love to see a similar mk5 wagon build! Same color. So rare to see clean wagons like this

Same, except mine is a 1.9 tdi
That is purely amazing. I just learned of a new dream car to add to the list.
That front end completes that body perfectly 👌🏽

Please do full review on this car
