Oh, a reaction to the wonderful Zhou Shen!
"Zhou" is pronounced like "Joe" with the J sounding a bit sharper like the "Ch" in Charlie. BTW, Charlie is Zhou Shen's Western name.
His fans call him Shen Shen.
Zhou Shen started early with singing, joined the school choir and won the first place repeatedly in choir competitions. But when he hit puberty his voice didn't significantly change. Since he still sounded like a girl in middle school he was ridiculed by his classmates and they were calling him names. Because of the discrimination he experienced, he became more and more silent. He didn't sing on stage for three years in junior high school. Fortunately he regained confidence and was able to make his uniqueness his strength. He studied Bel Canto at the Ukrainian Conservatory of Music and today he is one of the most popular singers in China.
Zhou Shen plays the piano, guitar and clarinet. He can speak five foreign languages: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Italian and Polish (his French is pretty decent too) and he sings in even more languages.
To experience his versatility, I recommend a few performances:

Zhou Shen is an amazing versatile singer. One of the best. You have not even begun to see what he can do. He is self taught. One of the most popular singers in in China. He has an extensive repertoire to choose from. He can sing anything. Check out Floating Lights, Ring the Doorbell, Decoded, Song from Heaven Island, etc.

Hi, Zhou Shen isn't self-taught. He studied bel canto at a music academy for three years in Lviv, Ukraine. He did mostly use a lower voice in his classes because he was afraid to sing in his natural high voice. So he DID practice his high voice alone in his room, and the anonymously on the internet under the name Ka Bu le.

Thanks RJJ for your reaction to this favourite Zhou Shen’s performance of mine. Memory was a very popular and successful song in the early 1980s. However, I never quite like the song until I heard Zhou Shen’s rendition. It was the third song of Zhou Shen’s I heard and I was totally spellbound. I had to watch this footage repeatedly every day for a couple of months 😲🙄 Never was I that obsessed 😝😅😂.
