Love this song. The verse has a hook, the chorus has a hook and the bridge has a hook. That, along with it being in a minor key and being an electro ballad made it distinct from what they'd put out before. It feels as fresh today as it was when it was released. Sarah and Nadine shine for me. ⭐

I used to work for the record company doing brand partnerships and I joined just as the team secured that samsung phone placement, ha. So I always see the phone. But honestly, what a song. This is 10/10 pop music.
From Sound of the Underground to Something Kinda Ooooh, the girls were popular of course but with the release of their greatest hits album in late 2006, something shifted in the atmosphere for 2007. The Tangled Up era and the Out of Control era was them at their highest. I would say it's super rare for an artist to get even more popular after the release of a greatest hits album, cus usually the public take that as a sign of them winding down. But for Girls Aloud, they reached even dizzier heights! Sexy No No No and Call the Shots was stamping on the UK's necks

Ever so disappointed you never gave Nicola a shout out her ethereal vocals are exquisite. This era saw a dramatic shift (for the better) in everything from image to sound. It also allowed the other members of the band to shine more, particularly Nicola. It's hands down my favourite era of Girls Aloud ❤

I always thought this was one of their best songs, I always thought of them as a guilty pleasure before this song , this one made me a fan. They levelled up with Call The Shots and a lot of the U.K. industry started taking them more seriously.

This really was the start of their best era of work. Nicola goes from getting a one liner here and there to becoming arguably the best vocals of the group. Kimberly and Sarah get their rightful appreciation and get more lines/a more even share of them. Cheryl was always the most popular one/had the most work/attention outside of the band, but her lower tones compliment the work more. Nadine always had a powerful voice but having the humility to share the songs more worked well for her too.
Check out Nicola on the masked singer though (Queen Bee) she really did end up having the 'best' voice out of all of them.

Sarah had got through to the live shows of 'Fame Academy' that year (a talent show for solo singer/songwriters that only ran for two seasons) but pulled out before the live shows started due to a lack of confidence as a solo singer, so she auditioned for 'Popstars The Rivals' to be part of a girl group instead.
I completely agree about Cheryl's tone. It's slightly nasally but still so appealing (in a similar way to Shania Twain). It is just a shame that she is so tuneless live.
