- This episode of The Good Timekeeping Show is an in-depth review of the Casio Waveceptor WVA-M630D-9AJF. The watch uses Casio's Module 5161, which is also used in several other watches in different color combinations and styles. The basic model number of these watches is WVA-M630 and all of the other numbers and letters in the model number designate different colors and different places where the watches are available for sale. Most are intended to be sold in the Japanese retail market but, if you live in the USA as I do, you can easily purchase them through Amazon or eBay. There are also a couple of Casio Waveceptors made for the US market which use this module 5161. They are WVA-M640 watches. And you may find watches from Casio's Lineage collection using this module. The models often begin with the designation LCW-M170. Lineage watches often use more titanium in their cases and feature sapphire crystal for improved scratch resistance. The watch faces also have a less-cluttered, more "high-end fashion" look. The setup and usage demonstrated in this video applies to ALL Casio watches using the module 5161.
These watches each have Casio's "Tough Solar" technology. The face of each watch contains a solar cell which automatically charges an internal battery with normal exposure to normal amounts of daytime lighting. My first "Tough Solar" watch from Casio is still running strong after more than 13 years without ever having to worry about replacing its battery.
These also have Casio's "Multiband 6" technology to receive Atomic Time data from up to 6 transmitters in various parts of the world. There's one in China, two in Japan, one in North America, one in the UK and, finally, another one in Germany. If you are using this watch in a part of the world which is too far away to receive the data from those transmitters then the watch will function as a normal quartz watch with accuracy to within 15 seconds per month. But if you are in a place where good reception of Atomic Time data is successful, then your watch can double-check itself every night and keep itself accurate to within fractions of a second all the time! It can even make Daylight Saving Time changes automatically. - Наука
I have the lcw-m100dse from the Lineage line which has a full stainless steel case and bracelet along with sapphire crystal. I like it so much I sold my Seiko sarb035✌🏽
I have two of these M630 in this "champagne" colour and swapped the watch bands for Bartons Canvas quick release 20mm in Pumpkin orange and the other in Khaki which really enhances the dial colour and is far more comfortable than the original strap. Another two Casios M630's I have are white face with gold roman numerals and swapped out the watch bands for Barton Canvas quick release 20mm in Chocolate Brown and the other in Crimson Red. These make the watches look stunning. Next, I also changed the watch bands in Royal Blue and Black to fit with black face and Navy face which highlights the difference between the dark colour of the the navy with the black. The Black straps also look really good with the white face models as well.
I just got the exact same watch of e bay, THANKS for the information on it Greg, came without any info. Thanks, I call the colour champagne! !!
Thank you for showing the watch. I am thinking about getting the one of these. You forgot to mention the lug width, lug to lug size, watch diameter and thickness 😋
Thanks Greg, always a pleasure! These Casio's are a lot more expensive in the EU by the way.
Thank you for your review.
Thank you for reviewing what is one of my favorite watches. I started off by getting a U.S. market black dial version of this watch with the stationary outside bezel, then got a JDM version of what you reviewed with the dark blue dial. I saw what I call the "champagne" dial version in your earlier review of all of your Casio watches with this module, when you showed an on-line photo of other color variants. This color is really dressy and classy. Reminds me of my Hamilton Khaki King with a champagne dial, but you are right about calling it more auto-body pearlescent.
Thank you very much for the setup and bracelet instructions. I find it much easier to do these while you're describing them. Your channel has increased my enjoyment of Casio's and provided great info and comparisons that have guided my purchases. I like all my Casio's but the Tough Solar and Multi-band models are my favorites. Thank you for all that you do for us and keep up the fine work, Sir.
I just got this Japanese Casio Pearl Watch! Thanks for the review, without it I would have just gotten the US version. I saw a two tone Casio with no Waveceptor, and no second hand, cheaper. I like the Roman numeral version too, but am not going to buy everyone I see. :-) I used to get all types of Casio's. My first one was in college $35 from Macy's. 2. Solar 5 alarm in 1984. 3. Phone dialer 1989. 4 TV remote. 5: Databank Recorder/calculator 2000. My other Watch addiction are Swatches, Quartz(battery replacement for life) and Automates Sistem 51.
I would say it's more of a champagne coloured dial. Great looking watch.
Hi, Greg, I enjoyed your review. I've been looking at this watch for a few days now. Anyway, what's the model of the G-shocks at the far left and right corners of your box? Thanks.
Thanks so much for this video. Really helped me set this watch.
I love your reviews. Thank you.
That pretty nice actually, thanks... 👍👍
Greg, The manual way of searching for the Multi band 6 does not seem to work. I press and hold the bottom right button and the second hand does not go to the R and W. Is it because the location in the US is in Colorado and I am in North Jersey? Just wondering. The owners manual is only in Japanese if you buy it from Japan. The band adjustment is easy but it keep the full weight of the watch the US version at least you can remove the links for a small wrist.
Looking for the same Looking watch but casio lineage. Couldn't find the same goldish color.
Have you noticed that many of the applied indices are misaligned to the actual minute marks? It's not only very noticeable by eye at the 1,2,3 and 4 positions but also when the second hand misses the indices which is very unusual for Casio.
Hi Greg, i have also a similar watch with Module 5161. Since yesterday I am not able to reach the main screen with the date. Do you have an idea how to fix this?
Hi great review I have a WVA M630 and if you hold all 3 buttons down there is a 0 on the lcd display what does that mean also how can you turn on P'S mode? thanks
Hi Mr. Anderson. Do you own or ever reviewed any Ladies Casio Wave Ceptor watch. I am looking at the model LWA-M141D-4AJF for my wife and I couldn't find any reviews/description of this series of watches. I own a casio Lineage and I like it very much. I wonder if the ladies Wave Ceptor are as good as the mens version as they are physically a lot smaller.
I just bought one of these today.
Hello, does the entire case is made of stainless steel?
Hello Greg.. I am new here and i am interested to know how you get from Casio company the watches..CONGRATULATINS for the videos..i like it..Thanks
Hey Greg, I enjoy your reviews. I'm partial to Casio watches myself. Just wondering, how often do you rotate through your collection wearing each one or do you do that? Thanks!
Just cant figure it out, date on both watches both casio 5161everything is set perfect but the day and date are showing 12 hours late, shows the correct but @ 12 noon only .can you help with a comment
The lineage series begins with the LCW-M100.
What year was this model released ?
You bought another watch? I am shocked, shocked.
Nice! Does your wife say "Honey, did you just buy another watch?" Cheers!
Sometimes she says, “Don’t buy that watch now. We’ll get it for Christmas (or a birthday or Fathers Day).” Or I’ll buy the watch but I have to give it to her... and wait.
@@GoodTimekeeper My wife started to collect watches herself. In 2 month's she bought a Braun and 2 Tissot watches. (For the record I only bought 1 watch in the 5 month's. (A G Shock DMW B5000. The steel square.)
"9AJF" I see what you mean about the pictures. Sort of looks tan and very different from how it looks in your video.
looks cool indeed w/ that pearlescent vibe. are the straps easy to change? how is it holding-up nowadays?
It does seem that it would be easy to change the strap on this. But I haven’t tried. It’s holding up very well. I don’t wear it very often because I have so many watches now. But I do wear it sometimes, since I try to rotate the collection.
@@GoodTimekeeper so the lugs aren't proprietary? i can put a nato on it?
My oldest analog Wave Ceptor watch was purchased in 2012 and it is still working. I will let you know if any one of my watches has any problems.
I can not find any store to buy exact colour (pearl) of the watch. (Toronto, Canada)
I might be the only person who uses the word “pearl” to describe this watch. I found this through eBay and the seller sent it from Japan. You should be able to search for the model WVA-M630D-9 and find it on eBay, at least.
Cool man.
Hi gregg. Do any of these multiband Casio watches have auto light -- when you raise your wrist?
I have a bunch of multiband G-Shock watches with the auto light function but these Waveceptor watches don't.
@@GoodTimekeeper Thank you sir. I appreciate your response. No one knows Casio's like you. I mean that sincerely. Because of you, I was able to access the "secret menu" for one of my Casio's...lol.
Thanks again and God bless.
Secret menu?!
Is this watch still a value today at $120?
I'm trying to decide between this and the WVA-M630D-7AJF
I have purchased this watch and I absolutely love it!
