Had to smile about the guy sending a wild message at night. Could have been me at an event. After 3 nights with too little sleep there are phases at night where your mind is somewhere between awake and asleep.

    It’s becoming more popular.
It’s not a fashion. Audax events have been going long before all this internet stuff

Great conversation, would love to hear more ultra-specifc content as the pro level racing stuff is talked already a lot about. I think in the ultra world there is so much more to unveil and less science available. Therefore real stories like in this talk become an important part to progress and learn something :-)

One of the top coaches, that doesn't say that everyone has his own limits in physical strength. After 30+ years of training I know my limits (And still searching) Not everyone can win The Tour de France or finish Badlands.

the honest truth most people don't have the time to be a "real" cyclist or to be best cyclist they can be. From experience it is a sport the requires on average minimally 20-24hrs per week squeeze all the juice out of you. this means over 30-35hrs when you account for pre/post ride, bike cleaning, set up, etc, etc. it's is a very very time demanding sport. Not to mention that very good diet is also time consuming and has many moving parts to it. And have not even mentioned test (blood, vo2max, etc) to assure you are moving the right levers and make needed adjustments throughout the yearly training/racing cycle.

    Excellent video,
    Lots of good advice,
I’m training for a 1000+ mile endurance race (unsupported). I’ve added in more long distance rides but my FTP has gone down.
It’s really hard to get the balance of intensity and endurance and they specified how important it is to improve your vo2 and ftp at the same time as your endurance.
I’ve always concentrated on intensity over endurance being an old athlete.
These ultra events are becoming more popular and are replacing the old 24 hr Mtb events such as Mountain mayhem and 24/12 both which I raced.

Ask John next time about working with Jeroen Swart who now works for UAE, about a study he did regarding the effects of Ritalin (Methyl-amphetamines) on Elite performance.

      Hi Ryan Kemp,
It was a controlled study for research which is useful for many many factors going forward and the effect on the CNS. The published study is freely available to anyone who wants to download it.
You dont need to ask anyone to ask me anything.
      Thank you

I think you're confusing Instagram-trendy with actual popularity. Badlands has, what, 200-300 participants each year? It and similar events are definitely social media darlings along with everything gravel at the moment, but they're hardly representative of the average amateur rider's event calendar for the year. Traiinng for a 700km race is of marginal relevance to 99% of your audience.

Save your money and eat whole foods. Time crunched is a thing, I get it, but the effort is worth it, on your wallet and your health and well being.

Competition is not healthy is the bottom line so you have to have a good family friend system that supports you without sports or money

So, by extension of this non competition opinion you are including the government in support of you and your family. Correct?
