The truth is most Nigerians don't know what they want. Also we only just focus on the federal (presidency), we forget that the federal basically does policies, the states & civil servants are those to drive these policies. But we never hold the givernors accountable. I can categorically gaurantee u that, if the governors in Nigeria are functional in use of the funds being disbursed to them monthly, the kind of change needed in terms of food security, security of life & properties, shelter etc would drastically improve.
Most state givernors are using the funds to do monumental (captal projects), that has no impact on their people, as a means to steal as much as they can. Example is Nasarwa state; the governor is building an overhead bridge in Lafia, where there are no congested traffic anywhere in the city. While places like Fadama North & South, Rukubi etc are all agricultural LGAs without motorable roads, but are left on attended to. This is exactly whats taking place all over the country.

Have been saying this for years, the grassroot and state governments are choking the progress of Nigeria, but they keep arguing with me,and most people in Nigeria are illiterate a lot of them don’t even know the levels of government they don’t know what and who a citizen is in a democratic dispensation, they believe is chop I chop, very mondane mentality,it wil take years for Nigeria to progress…

    • @adeworisamson4125
      @adeworisamson4125 Месяц назад

@@GoodyJones progression will be even very difficult even after many years. Cos even those monumental projects aren't going to be maintained over time, in the end what seemed like infrastructural development becomes a liability infrastructure, due to lack of maintenance. Also Nigerians need to change their attitude towards government assets, people treat them like trash & expect them to last, while blaming the government for it not being maintained forgetting that we're the ones messing or destroying them. Imagine how people go about stealing drainage covers, or dedicating all around the road (over head bridges & in btw dualized roads, pouring dirt all around the express road, even when there are those designated to clear these dirt daily, people would throw them away randomly & anyhow, anywhere which makes it more difficult for those responsible to clear them properly.

I would like to disagree a bit. If removing the subsidy means increasing tax rates, higher prices for petroleum products, rising food costs, increased electricity bills, devaluation of the Naira, and providing more funds for governors, then removing the subsidy is useless. I still believe that his policies are more theoretical than practical. A one-size-fits-all policy can't work in Nigeria because our economy is still in the pre-takeoff stage and requires flexible policies.

    • @okeoja4447

Who directly affects the people most? The Fed or the sub-nationals? Who’s better positioned to distribute palliative sir? The Fed or the subnationals? Who should really invest more in Agriculture? The Fed or the the State who owns the land? You see, in a Federal system like ours, the governors cannot be controlled by the President’s because they also derived their executive powers from the same constitution. The Fed saves us from debt and saves money through subsidy, and didn’t keep it to himself but shared it it with the subnationals. He invested his own on Federal infrastructures and other recurrent expenditures for the Federation. But the Subnationals collected theirs pay the salaries and businesses as usual even in the face of excesses. And the Fed keeps publishing how much has been distributed to the subnationals, but we are overlooking their corruptions. Who’s to be blamed for that? Whenever people protested to the government house, have you ever seen any protesters asking the governor what was done with this funds. They merely other like , we are sending you to our no President to no let us know we are very angry with him and his policy. You hear governor say things like, “I’m with you “. Against who? The governors have fooled our people to think everything now on the Fed. I hear orotesters hail their governors for not flogging them or coming out to welcome them during protests. But these are the real culprits. What wrong with our analysis of sensitive matters as this?

I'm not referring to palliatives because they aren't sustainable, don't address the root causes of macroeconomic issues, and often don't reach the intended beneficiaries. If Nigerians weren't experiencing the current level of hardship when we had energy subsidies, then something is fundamentally wrong. The Buhari administration removed the subsidy before the election for his second term, which led to a spike in petroleum prices and caused widespread hardship. They quickly reinstated it, though not fully, and prices came down.
No country in the Western world lacks subsidies, especially on essentials that improve their citizens' quality of life. Living in the Western world, I can attest that their governments manage significant subsidies that positively affect people's lives. My concern remains: why take from the people and give to the governors if it doesn't improve the lives of citizens? Moreover, is the removal of subsidies the reason for the devaluation of our currency, increased inflation, and higher taxes?

How do we tackle food inflation when more money is chasing fewer food? The answer is critical investment in food production and food security throughout their value chains which leads to industrialization. The states owns the land, they received more money. What are they doing on food production? Without more food produce, we can’t talk about the price. Period!

This is what should have been defined clearly before removing the subsidy. The cart came before the horse. It looks like money has been withdrawn from the masses to the state Governors and they can't be held accountable the problem is not removing the subsidy but can you implement policies that will cushion the effect? If not pay the subsidy. Even the corruption in subsidy can be handled it is not a myth as we are led to believe. if you don't handle corruption now, it will still come around and have massive effects, this is the crux of the matter

Instead of Tinubu to keep giving them funds why not just put the money in something the ordinary citizens can benefit directly from? It's like taking subsidy money from the masses to give it to the Governors. Does that make any sense ? He is just trying to be on their good book for politics sake not for the interest of the common Man.

increased fuel prices (petrol, gas, diesel )devaluation of the naira, poor supply and high electricity tariffs, major infrastructure is it without the power of the states. This is the major issues causing the hardship.

Subsidize food from the source .For Example ,We know the major rice miller and rice importers in the country, Why don't we subsidize it at least for a year and pay them the excess and announced no retailer should sell rice mire than 40k and and any store that sell more than that should be reported

  • @seniorhud1999

The truth is palliative can't go round but subsidy can . So the federal government should find a way to look for a way to stop theft instead of removing subsidy 😊

      Stop importation, thus stop subsidy!
Swap Crude Oil with local Refineries (eg. Dangote Refinery) in exchange for supply of Petrol for domestic use.
The price if petrol will go drastically low.
Billions of Naira can not replace mediocrity... lack of cerebral engagement is a disease!

U're right. But those profiting from the subsidy, that are not even Nigerians are more, while Nigeria keeps pilling up debt. If Nigerians are the major beneficiaries of the subsidy it would have been awesome. U'll say why can he deal with those criminally stealing from subsidy? That's going to be extremely difficult. That's why he opted for the more difficult choice of removing the subsidy.. but with this it doesn't mean their wouldn't still be leakages.. but let's hold so many people accountable. Imagine each time rumor has it that fuel price would drop, the fuel stations will lock up their stations, & would instead increase the price when they open.. these are strong sign

Please Mr Seun, the money to the governors will only probably be use for infrastructures and social amenites in the states, of which the governors are not utilizing well too but how will it affect the food on the masses table?. What we need is the subsidy back which will make transportation less, lead to reduction in food prices etc. That's the most important now. State governors are not the ones to return fuel subsidy. I believe if the president today puts back the fuel subsidy it will go along away to reduce the suffering of the masses. Please people are really suffering. A sachet of 10 table drug of N1,200 during Buhari's regime is now N9,000. It's really bad. President Tunibu should help Nigerians. It's well.

The state governors are also suffering bcos of federal govt policy.... d increase money to governors are worthless bcos of d inflation. Money is not d problem, the problem is inflation dat needs to be manage. People make more money too now but it doesn't reflect and high cost everything make it vanish.... governors are affected too

Ogun State as a case study. The then Ijebu North Chairman told the world that the money meant for the LGA in the State was not disbursed to them. Rather than other Chairmen to come out loud, they were boxed and intimidated to back the governor and blackmailed this gentleman and he was unceremoniously impeached on trump up charges. Obafemi Owode LGA, despite its proximity to Lagos,no single road or any infrastructural amenities could be seen.

This protest is head and directed by the wrong actors. It’s is head by people that are not interested in solving Nigerian problem but those buttered by the result of last election. Why whoever end up dying in this process die in vain bcos you’re fight alongside wrong people. Sowore want to become president without a democratic route which is not possible Nigeria is not Iran. We are not a jihad state. In the us or uk, resource will never come directly to anyone from the Fede government no it come through the states. But why you all are shouting end bad governance, and fixing removing TINUBU, referring to him has clueless and him having done the needful, that is sharing the resources according to Nigerian constitution to the state will rightfully think though you’re saying you’re hungry but you recruit to just rally by the same people you should crying to bcos they are the rightful people to look after you, the Governors and local chairman. The job of the federal government and judiciary are to make and enact laws not feeding the nation. They only disbursed allocations not empowered to say in particular how to spend it.
