I've read a lot of fantasy although I've fallen behind terribly. It's almost impossible for me to pick out a single favorite fantasy novel. It might be Jhereg by Steven Brust. (No one talks about Brust which makes me sad.) It might be A Raymond Feist novel or George R.R. Martin (I agree with many of these Booktubers that Storm of Swords is top tier work.) Perhaps it would be Fellowship of the Ring by Tolkien. I could even put in a good word for Wizard's First Rule by Goodkind.
I'm going to cheat however. Technically this is a 5 book series but the edition I read had all 5 under one cover, does that count? The Chronicles of Amber by Zelazny (another author modern readers have forgotten, sadly.) A bonkers fantasy world, universe actually. Wonderful characters who can travel across that universe. Politics, intrigue, a touch of religion, mystery and more. I even own a copy of the diceless RPG and have played in online text campaigns based on Amber. A rather unique experience.

I can't just pick one fantasy book, but it seems like your all picking one book that's in the epic fantasy genre I would probably pick the Name of the Wind also...but I also have a real love for Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell too. I now have a signed 1st Print 1st edition HC of The Name of the Wind that has an extremely rare drawing in red ink of the "green man" just after the title page that Donato, the illustrator draw and signed. I have never read that copy nor would I cuz I'm not a moron but I read a second hand paper back copy my first time and knew absolutely nothing about what the book was about.

I can't say that the Dragonlance Legends is my favourite fantasy book, but it holds a special place in my heart.
Because back when I was in school, it was my breakthrough in learning English. Up to that point that language was just something I had classes at school but could not use it for anything. I tried reading "The Lord of the Rings", but the language used there was too hard.
Now, I did read the german edition of the Dragonlance Chronicles and loved them, but Legends had not yet been translated.
So managed to get the original english edition in a fantasy store in Nuremberg and actually managed to read it!
Not everything, of course, but the language was simple enough and I was familiar enough with the setting and the characters that I managed to fully read it without having a dictionary by my side.

The verdict: The Crippled God and Storm of Swords both with 4 mentions each (and Malazan BotF getting two more mentions). I guess I was hoping for a few more LOTR mentions but shouldn't be surprised, especially by the sub-40's crowd, at the preference for more modern stuff.

Assassin's Quest, Robin Hobb. This was the last book of the first Farseer trilogy. It's my favorite in the entire Farseer cycle of 3 trilogies. Fitz is finally cut loose from Keep and he must travel across the map incognito to avoid essentially being burned as a witch and traitor. The people he meets and travels with are interesting and there is a sense of going on a quest that previous books were leading up to. Also the traveling along the Skill road with the gender fluid Fool and his visions of a previous girlhood that may or may not be his own, the cryptic old woman Kettle and her stone strategy games, the loyal Night eyes, etc reveals so much culture and history as well as answers to questions and secrets hinted at throughout the previous two volumes.

Cool video. I'm currently reading through The Faithful and the Fallen series and they are great and one of them could very well be at the top of my list. But, for now, I would have to say that my favorite fantasy book is The Way of Kings. The world was so new and fresh, the magical system is so unique and evolving, and the stakes are so high, not only for the continuance of their world, but each individual's stakes are truly epic.

Great Video. So many Malazan recommendations - I started reading the series a couple of years ago and DNF'ed in the middle of "Memories of Ice" - And though I thought the world was really awesome, I was so confused about what's going on and who is who... - always wanted to give it another try...- perhaps now is the right time (and perhaps I'll take some notes this time) 😀
As for my favourite fantays book if I could choose only one it would be "Warbreaker" - by Brandon Sanderson... I mean - it has a sentient sword... - one of my favorite fantasy tropes since reading the Elric books by Michael Moorcock when I was a kid

I would have to go with 2 books in the fantasy genre and from opposite sides of it. Terry Pratchett Interesting Times is the pinnacle for the Rincewind stories. It is funny, insightful and covers many topics as well as reintroducing the Tourist from the original disc world books. It’s a joy to read as you follow Rincewind on his misadventures and ask some important questions along the way.
The other is Perils Gate by Janny Wurts. It’s the final book of the alliance of light trilogy which is just one of the arcs in the wars of light and shadow. This book starts at the end of the previous one and then it’s a mad, hectic rush to the end. I had to read it twice because the first reading was done at speed chapter after chapter. The sheer energy in the book just didn’t allow me to stop and I didn’t want to either.
