Amazing engineering work, lots of hard work. Workers normally won't be able to see their families for a long period of time.
Excellent way to dig train tunnel, at a fraction cost of big tunnel drilling machine. also, round oval shape is better shaped for a wider good used of train tracks space. ( almost all hi-sp train tracks are side by side on both directions. )
China has the most TBMs in world today, there must be a reason why they aren't using a TBM for this project. Looks like they are tunneling through granite and could be the reason why.
Then they should have explain clearly in this video, otherwise people might be wondering why they're not using TBMs.
If the tunnel only about 65 meters long, it is not worth to set up a huge machine, also the TBM machine cannot handle the very hard rocks, you have to use explosive 0:43 to get the job done.
TBM only good for very hard rock, not too good for porous and softer rocks
China has the world largest TBM, but TBM cannot handle some tunnels with the hardest rocks.
