Can hardly wait for Fly Fishing 2.0- that ought to be a hoot. At least puffers (a “plethora of puffers”- nice), black drum, whiting, the ever-present croakersand blue fish were around with a nice crab on top of it. And then there were yabbies! Life is good.]]
@Sands in the Surf hopefully u had some luck today! Im hoping to get out on the kayak 1 day next week depending on weather and we have some company coming into town
Hey, Captain! My wife and I took your surf fishing class and have really enjoyed it. But we live near the T-pier on the ICW. I've not seen you do a video on pier fishing on the ICW. Any advice on rigs, bait, rods, etc?
Thanks! I think I would use similar rigs, double drop with 1/0 circle hooks but use less weight. 2 or 3 oz if the current is strong. Shrimp will catch you croaker for sure though you could hit a black drum. I’d try fiddler crabs too. I’d also try throwing soft plastics on a jig head. Mabey spark the interest of a trout or flounder.
I’m working out of town and been staying on oak island. I’ve been wanting to go fishing bad, but everyone I talked to said it wasn’t worth it this time of year.
I’m coming to oak island march 27-31. My second time last time I came in august had luck at point caught a decent black drum also had luck at pier catching a variety. What tips for next week?
Fresh shrimp will catch you puffer and some whiting in the surf. Been some small blues, 12”, could catch on cut bait. Hopefully the seaweed won’t be too bad
Caught a few croakers this morning on the icw was targeting trout with no luck so switched to using fish bites lol, is there a specific time of year you have really good luck on trout?
Can’t wait for July to come down there. Fishing was great last time!
Was fishing around the pier this past Sunday. Caught lots more puffer than I thought I would. Lots and of seaweed on Saturday though lol
Thanks for doing this video. Good information
Nice one Ian. May can’t get here quick enough for us!
I’ll try to leave a few for you to catch 😅
Didn't know fish burgers existed before this video but now I'm dying to try them! Great video
Fish tacos are my favorite but these came out really good!
I went to Davis creek last week, got 2 decent black drum on frozen shrimp. Everything was hitting hard

I’m improving, can cast my Walmart special 60 feet with a double haul :)
Nice intro! Excited for the new season 🎉
Thank you sir
Glad to see the surf fishing is starting to pickup. I've been getting skunked on the kayak the last few weeks
Todays gonna be beautiful so I’m hoping to see if I have any luck in the ICW

Also yes there are sharks in the icw, me and my buddy caught about 15 in one night last year in July off the bank all between 3-5 foot
That’s good to know. Now I’m excited about trying that

I like to trout fish in early December in and around Davis Canal
Kinda wish I still lived there I traded the beach for the mountains......
The mountains are beautiful too. Plus you’ll probably do better with the fly fishing 😀
Where can I find a yabby pump? Is there a bait and tackle store on Oak Island that sells them?
I got mine on Amazon. Don’t think any local places sell them. You might need to shop around online as some places really overcharge for them.
You try crabbing? And i wonder why people dont use crab snares on the east coast.
We crab a lot. Here’s a video ruclips.net/video/719C6ny0-jo/видео.html As for crab snares, I’ve never heard of them. Gonna go do some research
What the hell is a yabi?
Technically it’s called a ghost shrimp. Great bait!
