People have no idea how dangerous the water is at Mavericks. The water is cold AF, the currents are brutal and the waves can be huge, plus, there are sharks in the area. The whitewater from a large wave can be 25 - 30 feet high and it will gobble you up. I've also seen sharks there that were terrifyingly large and they weren't even Great Whites. No Thanks. Life is precious.
Always wear an inflatable safety vest at Mavs. If a surfer as good as Kai Lenny is wearing a helmet then you probably should too.

I think Sage got the wave of that swell. Giant green dream wave. And he stuck it.

Why don't folk go left more there?? Isn't that mainly what Jeff Clarke surfed alone all those years? Not as long but looks like some great rides that no one touches

Ya Jeff first surfed Mavericks as a left. Since then there’s been a handful of chargers getting deep in the barrel 🙌

Clark also switched stances so he wouldn't have to surf the left when it got big. The drop on the left is technically a lot harder to make, and if you don't make it, the beat down apparently is worse too

Between 1962 and 2010, surfing accounted for 65% of all shark attacks on humans in the United States. In a 10-year study period, 12 surfers died offshore from Santa Cruz County, California. A very good reason to wear a helmet is that 55% of surfing deaths in the US are associated with blunt head injuries.
