She is sublime and superb. You could stack ten other current “country” artists and they still would not reach the hem of her dress. A delicate voice that is as strong as steel; on par with Alison Krauss and the one Dolly Parton.

As a working musician and a player for 60 years I can tell you this, There are singers and then there are natural born, ultra pro vocalists like Lee Ann Womack. As the old saying goes, "She could sing the phone book". Apparently she didn't kiss Nashville's L.A. & NY Bosses ring often enough!!!

Can not top Vern but best cover I have heard is Chris Young, then there is a local guy I know from around my area here in Lawrence county OH Named Adam Crank that does a great version of this. you tube him has some stuff on here

I like Lee Ann Womack but there are very few singers that should ever try this song. I don't know her life's story but she didn't seem have any real emotion to invest. She's got a great voice, but the missing sadness made it seem flat.
Just my opinion but she ruined it! One of the greatest songs and thought provoking songs ever. Maybe I expected her to hold it to Vern's level
