When your feeling low the Doc is there to put a smile on your face . What a great guy
This man was first, a good Christian God Fearing Man. My father took me to see him play at Art Fest in Baltimore back in the early 80's. That day musicians were playing all styles of music at this festival. People were talking a lot while other act's played. Not when this man started to playing everybody stopped talking and were dumbfounded. My two major favorite guitar players are Doc Watson on acoustic and Jimi Hendrix on electric. This Great Man is missed!

I’m learning his songs now, at 60! Just started a few years ago. I really missed something by not seeing him live.
Every time i hear Doc Watson speak, i am reminded of my father. Wisdom and Compassion.
Came here to hear someone with my grandfathers accent... they were neighbors growing up!

A true gentleman.I saw him perform in Strasbourg, France, in the late 70s.His son was there too.He had a smile on his face the whole time, I'll always remember that.
I first heard Doc in 1961, when I was 13 y.o. I traded my electric guitar the next day for a Martin acoustic. I met him when I was working at WHAS radio in Louisville in the mid 70's. I got to visit with him at his home in Deep Gap where I was fortunate enough to meet Rosa Lee, and Jack Lawrence, and have attended multiple Doc concerts over the years. (I was so inspired by this great man, that I still play banjo, guitar, and fiddle to this day!) Doc was the kind of man I aspire to being. David Holt is also a national treasure. They are both among my favorite entertainers.
Teach your children, this music is dying.
So sad only 38k have seen this. Doc has been a blessing to this world.

i would absolutely recommend checking out billy strings. eerily similar to doc in so many ways.

Billy is a wonderful ambassador to this music that is very much in my blood, as I was born and raised, and will more than likely be laid to rest in my final resting place in these hills and Billy is not only a top notch musician who's been doing it his whole life but he's seemingly a very genuine and unassuming soul who has not let the success of his very hard work, we all know by now talent only gets you so far, you have to put in the WORK and if you are lucky you get to play for a few people. The whole band he has now is amazing, probably the tightest band I've ever seen(Pantera was and possibly still is the tightest electric band I've ever seen those boys were unnatural if you know them you know) so Billy deserves every bit of sweet success he gets thank God for him too!!!
Moving and inspirational. Put onto this by a friend here in France to whom I was talking about seeing Doc in Birmingham England around 1963. As Guy Clark says
" I have seen the David, seen the Mona Lisa too, and I have seen Doc Watson play The Lumber Stockyard Blues"

I had all his albums on record and one never mad it to CD. AND IT WAS RAGTIME IT HAD DOC ON A Piano sitting and a mirror and a pretty lady. Really cool.
What A Treasure a keepsake of the heart and I know, in many a guitarist's fingers joy comes a pickin'......

He passed away in 2012 at the age of 89.

iceaxe56 holt is there because he is a talented musician that doc loved and poured into. Same reason Sam Bush, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, and so many others are acclaimed folk artists. Doc spent time with them and showed them the ropes.
Guess. Doc took him cause he is a great guy and musician. Respect!
exactly--you never hear of him anymore--i saw him in a restaraunt once--loud and obnoxious--so that kind of sums him up for me.
Doc never had a loud or obnoxious moment in his life. You must have been sadly mistaken!!!!!
