I definitely prefer Clapton on a Gibson instead of a Fender guitar! What do you think? Let me know down below! Tabs for this video are available here: bit.ly/3IXforE

Clapton has earned the right to be a touch boring and commercial having been the guy all guitar players in the world wanted to sound like in the '60s when on his Gibsons. Nobody got near him in those days, not even Hendrix, and nobody can play like that, not even Clapton himself, anymore. It was pure magic.

Totally disagree! Best EC periods were Derek & Dominoes and Journeyman! And what guitar did he plays there?

Well his best Gibson solo IMHO is from “While my guitar gently weeps”. That solo is iconic!

Totally agree, the years Eric spent with Cream and Gibson guitars were by far his best, yes influenced by Hendrix, but he added his own melodic synthesis of major and minor, combined with superb bends and vibrato, all of which he could repeat in live performances.

Gibson, Fender, Clapton can sound great playing anything. I've always said you can give him a Teisco guitar and he'd make it scream. I met him back in 69 at a little clothing store he did a grand opening for and he borrowed another bands guitarist SG sounded great.

Clapton's style is so smooth and chewy. He makes the simplest things sound like they're sexy and supple. Somehow notes connect to one another like stretched taffy, and he can make even straight 8th notes swing

you're right there....the gibson humbucker sound suited Erics style of playing so much better...the strat needs somebody like Rory Gallagher playing fast and more agressive, not as layed back as Erics.....:-D...when i play Strat it's a bit like "hard work"...and a humbucker guitar is my lazymans tool....:-D
another perfect example is Billy Gibbons.....

To me it doesn't matter what guitar Clapton is playing, he's always getting the best out of it. Just check out his sound in the 80's (his concert in Birmingham in '86 with Phill Collins, Greg Phillinganes and Nathan East), his Southbank Session with Buddy Guy in '87...he even gets a fenominal sound out of Lace Sensor pickups!!
