Y'all, I about died making this video for you. I hope you laugh... you cry... or break out in rage. I did all of the above.
Girl, every DIYer has felt the pain of a failed project! In fact, I'm in the middle of one right now myself and I have lots of small furniture experience. Your transparency to your weaknesses and perseverance to see it through is what endears us to you! It turned out great in the end. Wish me luck as I forge on with my mess. 😂
You got this!
I admire your tenacity! I would have thrown up my hands and been in tears and given up. The table looks beautiful as well as the entire room. If the chunks on the table top bother you, you could repair them with wood filler, sand the spots and paint. It’s super easy to work with.
Absolutely love this video! I have failed at many DIY’s but hey, at least I tried! I don’t come to this channel to see a perfectly done DIY- I come for your uplifting attitude and your love of Christ ❤. Never change !
Awesome! Thank you!
Kristen , I love watching your channel. You and your family are absolutely precious. I love how you show us the love of Christ on your channel. 💕
Thank you so much!
I love the realness,I struggle with wanting everything done in a blink and it's always good to hear another mama say it's ok to struggle!
After many attempts, your table now is a beautiful jewel. The color is just right for the room and it has a story to tell for many years. Thanks for being real.
Thank you so much!
I love how the pillows bring the table into the decoration, make it look cohesive, different and cozy. ❤
Thank you! 😊
What a project! You are a trooper - I would have trashed that table long before the paint job! I once stripped a table of about 4-5 coats of paint. It was an awful job. When I went to stain it, the stain stayed on the top of the wood. The wood wouldn’t accept the stain! I wound up painting it. All that work for naught! Good for you for persevering! The table looks great!
DIY takes courage and patience. Girl, you had me laughing so hard, not at you but with you. Hugs. The final product is beautiful.
Hello sweet Kristen. I love your videos. Awwww i could just feel your frustration over the table. I would have been frustrated too. But in the end it looks beautiful. I love it. The curtains are so cute. You have a lovely home. Thanks for making me smile. Take Care. God Bless You and Your Sweet Family.
I really love the colors you chose for your livingroom so much. The curtains, the couches that go with the green in the fireplace, it's beautiful! Thank you for bringing your struggles to light in this video because we ALL have them and makes me feel not so lonely lol. Thank you for also include a prayer, cherry on top. ❤
Cushion covers are so easy to make. It is always the first project when I was teaching my daughter and grandchildren to sew.
Kristen, you're such a conqueror. Well done with the table. I had the same trouble with an orange pine. I did all the hacks, ending up sanding it. After sanding, the orange turned to yellow. I then bought an oak stain and after I applied it, it came out orange again!!! My final plan is to white wash it. It's been 2 months and I still haven't got the strength to try my final idea. So, thank you, Kristen, you've persevered, and now, because of you, I'll attempt finishing it once and for all.
I too have been Frustrated at trying to strip a piece of furniture when I knew nothing about it !!! But I feel this is a learning process and we will learn from it ….You tried and you fixed the problem!!!! You should be very proud because your table is beautiful!!!
I’ve definitely been where you’ve been refinishing things. My kitchen cabinets are knotty pine and they were beat up. This house has been rented for over 50 years, so you can imagine how they looked. I took it upon myself to refinish the doors. Sixteen doors and six drawers! I had no idea what I was doing! I FINALLY finished and I’m so proud of myself!! I can’t say they’re perfect, but I did it!!!
Videos like this are SO important! I have been so angry and defeated by DYI pitfalls in the past. It’s so important to persevere and problem solve to find a solution. Great job Kristen! In the past (for me) Citrus strip works best when the stipper stays wet for an extended period of time (24+hours) so do it in a garage or under a covered porch (or even inside). Then the patience’s begins as you have to take the time to clean off all the gunk…. At the end of the day… I’m team sander, faster and way less goop! I only strip if it’s a super detailed piece.
I completely dieing over here!!! Thank you for your honesty. I am so glad I am not the only one that goes through these trial and tribulations. Absolutely LOVE your channel. I am a new subscriber. And outdoor paint for an outdoor table! lol
You are a breath of fresh air. Your honesty and genuine nature is so beautiful. No one is a master at everything. Your strength is your ability to connect with people and to help them realize we don’t have to do everything by ourselves. We need each other and you show that.
I love and appreciate your constant authenticity on this platform Kristen… the table looks beautiful!!
Thank you so much!
Wow!!! That table sure taught many lessons about wood, construction, etc.!!! I love the final color choice as it accents both your rug and wall color. Typically one black item or piece in a room is all that's called for to have that visual dynamic, so I was glad you didn't add black to the table! I appreciate your humility in sharing this frustrating project of wrestling with the bad and ugly before reaching the good. You did it, Kristen!!! And your living room looks so beautiful!!!💖
Loved our visit, Sweetie pie and sending 🤗🤗🤗❤
My suggestion -- keep making these videos!! I LOVE that you are so human!!
Thank you! Will do!
Hey Champ, that table looks absolutely beautiful! I was shocked to see in the final reveal what it did for your entire Living Room! Wow! (The ripple effect is amazing!) Way to go! I admire your determination & perseverance! Also, your choosing to switch out the 2 pictures for more subdued coloring… ❤️! Thank you for inviting us into the process! You’ve shown us how to tone things down in a room throughout this video & I’m so inspired to give it a try as this has been one of my desires for our home. ~2 Corinthians 12… how timely, fitting & perfect for all! Thank you, Kristen!
Kristen the color of the table looks so nice with your couches !! You are one sweet lady and I really appreciate your keeping it real ! Believe me a lot of us have had similar experiences. Thank you so much for sharing this whole episode with us.
Thank you so much!
Hi Kristen, Believe me, I have made so many mistakes in trying to strip, mixing my own paint and then having to scrap the whole thing and start from scratch. But, your coffee table turned out perfectly beautiful!!! I am very impressed, you picked the perfect colour for it, I think. And your little cafe curtains in the kitchen are just perfect for your home, really nice!
I'm 71.......been diy'ing since I married at 22. I could write a book about my disasters...... but its how I learned! Now I'm pretty good at most things!!!.😊😊😊 i love your green couch and the rug......and the table of course! Your home is so charming......as are you! Kathy from Pennsylvania 😊😊😊
The rug in the living room is absolutely the perfect rug. The red is subdued and gives the room the right amount of color to keep it from being a bland room. Love your channel! C
Oh thank you!
Kristen, I love the outcome of your task. You never gave up. That is why I enjoy watching your videos. You managed to take something ugly and make it new again. You are amazing!
Kristen you win 🏆 the funniest video of the week award! I’m sorry for your frustration but God used it for good in my life, I needed joyfulness today! Table looks great, never get rid of it because the story is so good!
Yes! Thank you!
I’m so glad you were finally able to salvage it! At each new endeavor, I kept thinking “Just stop now and try to sell it as a project piece!” Glad it turned out!
You and me both!
The table was an adventure but came out great. I have used the oven cleaner method on some wood bowls. Worked well with some. Not so much on others. It certainly was challenging. You did a great job.
Oh Kristen! ❤ I can feel your DIY growing pains lol 😅 Thanks for taking us on a journey. It's definitely not just you. I've had many projects I had to just scrap because the more you fix it the more I end up messing it up Lol. BUT I do say I learn from it all in the end about the process of DIYing for the next time! Like in this case, it's easier to paint than strip. 🥂 Here's to living life learning along the way! ❤ 🎉
It turned out great in the end, by the way!
I have had similar furniture refinishing experiences and I laughed when you said there were no tears but definitely rage. I have watched many furniture refinishing videos and thought I knew what I was doing only to find that it’s not as easy as some make it look. I have a solid pine coffee table that was very orange when I started. I had envisioned a natural pine with no yellow or orange undertones. Try as I might, all attempts ended up with a yellow mess. I ended up painting the base an off-white and staining the top darker. At this point, I hated it so much that I decided not to invest any more money and used a shiny polyurethane on the top instead of matte finish. This was not at all my vision. It is functional and I have lived with it but to me, it was a complete fail.
❤ Kristen you are an inspiration, the fact that you preserved and eventually made a beautiful piece that looks lovely in your living room.
We all have made mistakes, some more than others, but determination, perseverance and patience which you demonstrated in working on this coffee table are essential when you are a home maker.
Well done ❤ xxx
Hilarious!!! I could not stop laughing because I went through the same frustrations on previous projects of mine. But I also loved how you never gave up on seeing the end results, and how you incorporated scripture that speaks about struggle. What a wonderful lesson to learn from. Thank you again for the laugh and encouragement!❤
Everything looks beautiful!! Love the pillows and the color you chose for coffee table. Looks so cozy now. I like the rug in there too! Trust yourself and decorate with what speaks to you. You can never go wrong doing that! ❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
Wait, just a minute, can I just say “how adorable your Dog” looks next to your table, in the beginning of the video!!! Thank you 🐾for your appearance…❤
Oh thank you!
I was so enthralled by that pup.
Kibble kills dogs! Please make sure it’s natures logic or open farm. All of the kibbles from Walmart or petco cause cancer!!!!
You did a fine job. Everyone learns from experience. Even the so-called experts. I really like your cafe curtains and pillow cases. Your table has a story behind it and now is a conversation piece. The only thing I would change is the lamp shade to a color that blends better with your decor. Great job! I always like seeing you and your family’s smiling faces. It’s like a breath of fresh air in the times we’re living.
Thank you for taking the time to share the whole process of redoing your coffee table. I have been redoing pieces of furniture for the past couple of years and your experience is spot on. It happens sometimes and all you can do is keep trying. Your end result is beautiful!!!
Well done for sticking with it and I hope you are proud of yourself 😊🎉
Glad it was helpful!
Love the coffee table and I think the rug in the living room is perfect! It gives such warmth and coziness to the room.
Yes! Thank you!
The table turned out so pretty! I've been there too with diys. 😧 😊 Your living room looks cozy & beautiful. Andrea is one of my favorites too. Thanks for sharing God's Word with us, so encouraging.
The most important is you did not give up and you made something you love . It looks great!
Yes! Thank you!
I’m sure you’re now ready to dive into something else! It just makes you want to try new things! If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! Loved the finished look, and your sewing skills! Keep it up, you’re house is looking great!
Thanks for the tips!
I LOVE your table now and your DIY looks a lot like mine! It never turns out quite like I intended it too!
I think that even the professional furniture strippers come across a piece of furniture that gives them a challenge. You came out the other side with a beautifully painted piece. 90% of the pieces that I do don't turn out the way I originally planned.
Great job on the coffee table Kristen! Your home is so beautiful. I love how you decorated the gallery wall above your couch and the hardwood floors are so beautiful. The new side table you have your television on is a beauty and a great addition to your home. Thank you for the beautiful words from Scripture! God bless you and your beautiful family!!
Thanks so much! 😊
LOL !!! That is one very clean table !! I feel for ya. The table color turned out really nice.
Thanks so much!
I can't believe how parallel our stories are in the coffee table department! LOL! I have one that I bought from Facebook Marketplace for $40 that is almost exactly like yours. I bought the Citri Strip and all the tools to strip it. (Big ideas, very little knowledge or motivation). I still need to just do it! Your video was such a good lesson for me. Thank you for being so real!! OMG I'd dreading my attempt now because I bet mine has that layer of not-real-wood on top too. Ugh. I will have paint on hand just in case. Wish me luck!
Good luck!!
Loved this!! Thanks for showing the real side of DIY!! The table looks great painted!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Loving how everything turned out. I absolutely adore those green couches. You did a great job on the table. Seriously, love this room. Don’t change a thing. 🤎
Thanks so much! 😊
The coffee table warms that room and the color looks great! 🍂🧡🧡🙏
Thank you! 🤗
Kristen, the table turned out really nicely. All the work will probably end up being a little bit of a lesson on patience. I know I would have been so frustrated also. 😊 I have a cabinet that our neighbors were literally going to put in the trash that I wanted to paint for over 20 years and finally did! Sometimes the fear of failure holds us back. I’m so glad I was able to finally get the project done.
I’m thankful to you for your channel and your willingness to share your faith. It’s a blessing to have your channel as well as Andrea’s (Pine & Prospect Home) and Amy Fritz’s. The 3 of you are so inspiring.
Hi Kristen. The coffee table turned out great! The color definitely works well with the rug. I also like the material you chose for pillow covers. I am not a sower so I used check napkins from Target and stitch witchery to make pillow covers. Your kitchen curtains look adorable! Though it was frustrating for you it is an encouragement to those of us who watch your videos to know that you tubers struggle with diys just like us. Have a blessed week🩷!
Thank you! You too!
That red and green rug looks stunning under that table. It pops!
I think it turned out lovely... As you were doing this, I kept thinking you were going to paint it a black. I have been there...This past winter I spent the WHOLE Winter painstakingly painting stair rails and trim to include the upstairs.. month later...It ALL PEELED OFF. I USED THE WRONG PAINT.... on a good note...all the painted transom windows are striped and clear now.
You did great on the curtains. And we’ve all had our fun with furniture and redoing it. The table looks great and you got those pillows you can do it. Thanks for sharing the word courage meant for us all.
Thanks so much! 😊
Loved seeing the real process , with all the frustrations , just like real life , blessings in creating your home .
Thanks so much!
Poor Buddy was so undecided about the table at the beginning. Lol. Never give up is a life lesson. Through failed attempts we learn and help others. I so enjoy your videos, and I love the red rug in the LR. Be who God made you to be, he doesn’t make mistakes. Love the your scriptures.
Thanks again!
I felt your frustration and commend you for the numerous tries you made, to make this table fit in. Hate to say this, but I think it looked its best before you did anything to it. I would have taken some white paint, thinned it way down with water and then whitewashed the table. The thin paint would allow the woodgrain to show, but it would have toned down the orange that you were trying to eliminate.
Kristen, I was both feeling your pain, and laughing with you. My own “stripping” trauma came back to plague me. Lol Like you, my project was eventually completed, and is beautiful in its imperfections. Love the devotion and prayer at the close. Well done! 🙏🏻
Hello Kristen, what a beautiful soul you are 😊 I know I am late withe this comment, but maybe I will save you some time for your future projects. As a carpenter's granddaughter, I am letting you know that the pine wood becomes yellow--->orange--->dark orange/amber tone when aging. To get rid off this, sanding is your best friend. However, if the pine wood was stained then you can use a non toxic paint stripper first and then gently sand it.
Love your videos and personality. Greetings from Poland 🤗
Love how the table turned out!!
You are one of the sweetest women I have met on Utube, you are very humble and a great mom! God bless you in all your DIY’s, you did a wonderful job on the table. I think the nicks add to the character of this piece.
Thank you so much!
You made me laugh Kristen. Everyone has failures from time to time. Just remember the saying 'a man/woman who never made a mistake, never made anything '. You got there in the end and the coffee table looks really lovely. Well done. Pat yourself on the back.
I laughed so hard during this video! Every time you showed a new attempt #, I would crack up again. I laughed because it’s so true to life and your reactions were so honest. My first thought, before you began doing anything, was that I would paint it black. I actually really like the color that it ended up being. It does tie in well with the colors in the rug. And I do like that rug there very much; I would definitely leave it there. Someone mentioned in a comment on your last video that you should change the legs on your new sofa to keep them from looking so modern. I like the style of your other sofas, but I love the green (the color of my sofa). I have to admit that the others match the rest of the style in your room, especially with your idea of painting the lower portion of the walls a darker color. I’m so glad you survived this project and that you shared your “journey” with us. Blessings!❤
You are so real and for that I say Thank You. I was more fixated with your shirts. BEN IS MY Grandson, and the Notre Dame one ... my son works for Norte Dame.
The table looks great. Failure creates character!
I LOVE THAT RUG IN THE LIVING ROOM. IT WOULD LOOK GREAT IN THE BEDROOM, TOO, BUT WHEREVER YOU PUT THE RUG, KEEP IT!!
I would have painted it black! With a satin finish. Not a fan of this color but who knows color never is good in any of you tube logs! God bless you for your honesty!❤️😍
Turned out just beautiful!! The whole room is perfect!!! In fact, your whole house is!!!! We are all flawed. God bless you and your family.
Thank you so much!
I think the color of the coffee table toned down the rug making the red less central and now it looks great in the room. You made me laugh so hard! I think most of us have been there with stubborn projects. One of my favorite sayings is “perfectly imperfect “.
I think so too!
The color turned out perfect. I would recommend filling the holes with some wood fill and a thin layer where the particle board in showing to give you a nice smooth finish.
Thanks for the tips!
So glad you showed us the entire journey! It may not have turned out the way you wanted, but I think it works really well in that space. It will be great for the season of life you are in! Good call on changing the color too. I blends so much better!
I think so too!
Love the color used to paint the table ! I get furious about being weak with DIY too 😂....I had a really tough time this past week , this clip just somehow lifted my spirits .Good to be reminded that God is our strength when situations make us feel so weak and defeated at times .Thank you for the clip ,God Bless xxx🤗
Rage makes sense given this stubborn table!!! But you transformed it and it looks great. Also, I love the idea from your previous video about bringing back your neutral couch and painting your trim the darker color. Also, the curtains are adorable
Thank you! 😊
You get lots of points in my book for powering through and finishing it!
Your a trooper sticking with it, I would have called it quits about the 3rd. try. It's beautiful!
You didn’t fail, you just experimented, learned, and in the end, you nailed it!
You made me laugh! You were a trooper. $25 bargain, $200 worth of frustration. We all do it. I painted a tray with beautiful pumpkins and leaves and when it was done, the whole painting peeled off! I threw it in the trash!lol
Kristen, thank you for being so real. You make me feel better about my weaknesses and failure to be all that I expect of myself. I enjoyed your finished coffee table too. It looks so pretty in your living room. It was impressive that you kept trying until you made it look great. I feel inspired to keep trying on those projects I've given up on. I also love that you shared your devotion and prayer. They were both beautiful. It's amazing how much impact we can have on people's lives when we share our faith with a humble heart. Great job today Kristen! Sandy
Definitely keep that living room rug. It's fabulous! Just love how authentic you are.
Thank you so much!
Not sure if you did, but putting plastic wrap over the citristrip and allowing it to sit for a full day helps to pull the stain out.
It turned out great in the end anyway :)
New subscriber 😁 I feel your frustration and after many trials and errors, it turned out brilliant! I have several projects in the works and some are not turning out. I am a jack of all trades but a master of none! There are errors and flaws and I am ok with that. Our home is a place of love and happiness, it’s cozy and comforting…as it should be ❤
Welcome!
Your table came out lovely and smooth and the styled so sweetly 🤍 But oh my… This is EXACTLY the frustration I just had with my kitchen makeover. The cabinets had so many issues I had to do two videos 😅 …BUT , like you said we all go through this sometimes and the results are actually good if we don’t give up! 👏🏼 Nice job!
This is a fantastic video. Thank you for your humility and honesty. And the table turned out great! Sometimes the struggle makes the result so much sweeter.
So true!
The hard parts of DIY not everyone is willing to share! Thank you for your genuine transparency of reality in your videos always. The final result looks fantastic!
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up 🙏🏽🫶🏼
I appreciate that!
I love how the table turned out! It looks so pretty with the rug. I have also had many fails with DIYs. But it tuned out great in the end.🙂❤
Thank you! 😊
Love the table with the rug !!
I had one like that coffee table! Gave to my daughter she painted it! Looks great !
That is awesome!
Love the table, pillows & curtains! Well done!😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Kristen, I'm from Michigan and I have the same material, I had a gal make valance's for my kitchen and living room, I love them.and so sorry you had to stress over the coffee table. But it looks absolutely Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Love it!!
Lol... your dog looks so invested with you when you talked about the coffee table ideas..😂 Adorable...❤
I know!!
Love the finished coffee table
The table looks great! You definitely persevered!! It turned out great!
Thanks so much! 😊
Good for you Kristen for persevering and getting the job done while keeping it real. We have all had many similar situations and some of my smaller ones have just ended up in the trash. The table looks nice and any imperfections just gives it character and shows it was well loved.
I've had my failures with striping furniture as well. Love how you are able to laugh about it. God bless.
Thank you! You too!
Kristen ! Your a absolute trooper ! Tons of credit for trying. I have never even attempted something like that. Maybe, someday. Have a wonderful and blessed week. 🍂🍁
The table looks great!
I love the color on this coffee table!! I’ve done diy on a lot of furniture, and I’m proud of you for not giving up on this one!!😅
Thank you so much!!
Mistakes are part of the process, perseverance is a blessing and in the end, produces hope!
I love the green couches. I am actually thinking of getting one myself
This was such a hilight 🥰 I love that you show that everyday life is just perfectly imperfect. The table ended up beeing SO cute! Have a good week!
Yes! Thank you!
I love the color with the sofas and rug, it looks great!
