To me Winter really is that guy on RUclips who always manages to cheer me up and make me laugh, even though I don't play SC2 anymore. Keep doing you Winter!
I know Maru is millions of times better than me at Starcraft 2, but I have noticed he plays a lot more passive against Serral than anyone else. Maru will do non stop widow mine drops against Dark, but not Serral. He'll do more aggresive plays and really focus on stopping creep spread with every other zerg, but not Serral. I dont know if its an issue with Maru or Serral is just that good at shutting things down.
There's nothing to argue, Serral is the GOAT. You've gotta be stark raving mad to believe he isn't. I mean, for years we didn't even know if he bled! That said, what a time to be alive and see the level of skill at the very top of SC2.
I really like how in the last few matches of his I've seen, Serral has been showcasing what I always thought was the biggest advantage zerg could use. (But rarely ever get to) Late game tech switches. Since on this balance patch zerg don't seem to have an "ultimate" endgame composition, he alternates between radically different endgame tech. Make ultralisks to encourage the terran to go into ghosts and liberators, then switch to broodlord infestor and deal a heavy blow. Terran is forced to make vikings, ghosts, and hopefully thors to deal with the broodlords. But, then you trade the broodlords out for heavy economic damage and follow up with ultralisk infestor, leaving the terran with useless vikings, depleted medivacs/ghosts, and no economy to recover. Also, spoiler below: was kinda expecting a better showing from Maru, but it just seemed like Serral just took the lead early on and controlled the tempo in every game.
I'm starting to think that Serral's playstyle happens to give him a bit of an edge against Maru. Maru has two main strengths, insane micro that can overwhelm a player who's even the slightest bit out of position, and the ability to set up small armies to get better engagements than he has any right to with them. The typical Maru game, from what I can tell, involves Maru doing some sort of early attack or drop that the opponent has to defend. This attack either wins Maru the game, or the attack gets defended, and Maru overcomes this early loss by setting up a perfect defense of his third base, then just not dying as he slowly eeks out small advantages over the rest of the game. I feel like Maru actually gets behind in games fairly often, the difference between him and every other terran is just how freaking good he is at not losing, then taking advantage of a few inevitable mistakes from his opponent to turn what should have been a loss, in to a win. How do you beat that? Well, you have to be defensive enough to survive his initial attacks and drops, talented enough to keep up with Maru over the long game, patient enough to know when you need to retreat and get more ahead, have perfect game sense to make the right play in every situation, and be super on top of scouting. That kinda sounds like where Serral absolutely excels, and it shows in these games. Every one of these games, Serral deflects Maru's early aggression, gets a lead, then has the patience to not squander that lead for the next ten minutes while never overextending. Maru is a master of baiting people in to making mistakes when he's behind, and Serral never takes the bait, he always has a second plan to win, continues to make drones when he gets ahead, and retreats the moment before he overstays his welcome. Playing against Maru is playing on a knife's edge the entire game, and Serral simply has the skillset to never fall on it.
From horoscope to horrorscope it's but a moment. P.S. The Norse wrote a lot of stuff down ^^ It's not just immediately and easily accessible xD And I'm not sure Finns count as ethnically Scandinavian, though geographically Scandinavian. As far as I know, Finnish language is related more closely to Hungarian (and, believe it or not, Turkish) than Swedish/Norwegian/Danish.
The only way I could enjoy this series more is if it were Bo7... this is probably the most hyped match in any playoffs like... ever... Liked and commented.
@@marians9331 It means "best of" and determines the maximum number of possible games. You win a best of 3 for example by winning 2 games in the series. You win a best of 5 by winning 3 games in the series and so on. You commonly only find uneven numbers as that rules out a tie in the series generally speaking. In Starcraft the maximum you will find in a 1v1 series is usually Bo7 since there are usually 7 maps in the competetive map pool of each season. In theory you can go up to whatever number you want. I mean i haven't played the game in over a year, and the game that pros play is vastly different than the ones the rest of us play, but i'm still always surprised why the Terran mech isn't the standard build against Zerg. It just seems that every zerg build except pure roach ravager hard counters bio and players just insist on playing the build that is being hard countered. I mean obviously we've seen countless times bio players winning against muta ling bane, but it would just seem much easier to counter those builds with mech, i mean blue flame Helions/Hellbats are the hardest counter in the game for zerglings, Thors are one of the hardest counters to mutas and broodlords and siege tanks are one of the hardest counters for roach ravager, and of course the classic BC openings that completely prevent Roach early timing attacks, why did the pros stop playing mech?
How about lurkers doing ff? As is they're basically tanks that siege instantaneously, are invisible while sieged, and do insane area damage while not harming friendly units.
It's not ridiculous. Either make them do friendly fire or remove friendly fire from storm, mines and tanks. It's a bit ridiculous that banes dont do friendly fire damage
Honestly, the third game, Maru threw the game by putting his ghosts in reckless positions and constantly making useless marines. I skimmed over the fights and he wasted like over two dozens ghost because he got greedy with them.
Maru lost because he went for 3 CC, meaning he was stuck inside his main for 1:20 Minutes with 2nd and 3rd base lifted off, lost about a mineral line worth of SCVs, upgrade buildings, 5 (6 in fact) depots, was supplyblocked and just behind like crazy, so it would've taken insane drops to come back or it would've been a slow grind to death from then on. I don't think if his ghosts had survived that it would have made too big of a difference, he just lost too many bases too many times.
Winter flexing his American education, probably this is a hundred akhcually comment, but Fins - not really Viking culture (ugro-finnish, not germanic), and well runes. Yes, had to nerd out on this.
That did not look like two of the best players matching up. That looked sort of like the best player matching up against a maybe top 10 player. I've seen Maru do some disgusting stuff and crush Zerg players but Serral just did not take damage. Every game, the creep is halfway across the map by the time 2/2 is finishing and the drones are basically untouched. And the guy getting rolled is friggin Maru. Serral is too good at this game.
Everyone knows zerg is op dude. Terran wouldn't win with an all in, and they can't safely expand as fast and out-macro either. They're literally stuck doing midgame timing pushes.
let me reduce the entire game of starcraft down to 1 ability and say that snipe is why Terran is slightly advantaged in the lategame. with 12+ ghosts, zerg feels like they're not allowed to build expensive units because they'll just become efficient targets for snipe. We've all seen the brood-lord games where ghosts find an angle and zerg loses 3500/3500 in an instant.
