I bet you found it was the rods at the front of transfer case jammed with rust! 👍🏽

The problem was an extra lever that some previous repairer had left inside the box by mistake. It jammed up the works. Thanks for watching.

What made the transfer case start working in 2wd again?

Somewhere in my video playlist it shows that when we pulled the pan off of the bottom of the transfer case a piece of linkage fell out that was not even supposed to be in the transfer case. It was the two-wheel drive lockout lever and pin that apparently had been removed in a previous disassembly and thrown in there, I guess just as a place to keep it. We speculate that it was jamming up the two / four-wheel drive dog and keeping it from disengaging. It's a wonder it didn't destroy the transfer case but I guess it got stuck out of harm's way in the box somehow. I know it doesn't make much sense, but you have to keep in mind that this was a used transmission and transfer case that I acquired from a local Land Rover fanatic years ago.

@@GrandadFixit thanks for getting back to me. Yours was the only video I could find on removing the transfer case in situ as I could not engage 2wd. I nearly did it but have such a good seal on the transfer case sump, didn’t want to break it. In the end I swapped the selector for one from a series 3 for my series 2a and it worked. No idea why, couldn’t find a spare lockout lever like you did. Perhaps spring tension changed but now have 2wd. Keep up the great work, loved you video. I couldn’t touch my phone, EP90 oil was everywhere. 😉

And the transmission in the other series two. Oh yeah my Austin has a tooth missing on first gear. And my Morris Minor transmission whines in all but top gear. And second gear synchro is sluggish in my green TR6. and the red TR6 needs u-joints. This LR is a farm utility vehicle. Who's got time?
