You're completely right that the audio isn't live, but Jonah (vocals/keyboard) said in an interview, on Stratele Studio's channel, that he and Aron had to transcribe their own improvised solos from the recording, to be able to play them back live when they filmed the video. He also mentioned that Aron didn't miss a beat when playing it back, which is mindblowing in itself. These guys are bonkers good. Oh, and there's percussion as well, played by a guy named Andreas Ekstedt (who they forgot to mention in the credits and made up a whole story as to why, in the credits of one of their other songs 🤣), but they never have the session musicians in their videos. Maybe that was one of the other "snare" sounds you heard before the piano solo? I am no drummer, so I might be completely off here; just a thought.
Dirty loops os awesome. My favorite is follow the light. Dirty loops led me to snarky puppy years ago then I checked out larnell lewis zildjian live. That's also a good one.
Yes, Jason! You found Dirty Loops :D great reaction vid, nicely done with super interesting comments! And whilst this wasn’t a live performance video, they’ve played it live since then many times. This band is as amazing live as in the studio, I’ve heard… Their musical style often comes disguised behind a thin layer of pop (and mightn’t be everyone’s jam in the beginning) but then, man they start unpacking! Jonah’s vocal and key skills are unbelievable, Henrik’s bass one of the best (and his sound on this track) just soo good, and Aron 🔥 I’m glad you enjoyed his playing and his chops -he too would be one of the finest drummers around at the mo, I guess. Together with the others he’s instrumental in creating DLoops’ tunes. There were times when he told Henrik what and how to play a certain bass groove or lick (just sometimes ;) based on that and on what Jonah does, Henrik might have to play ‘weird stuff’ which doesn’t sound like your typical bass riffs 🤣 Look up Henrik’s interview on bassmagazine.com/Songified/Henrik Linder, where he explains the workings behind this and other tracks from their Phoenix LP. They also work with Simon Petrén, a sound, mixing and mastering engineer, who makes everything they do sound even better! The visual editing in all their videos is done by Aron. This track is a hell of a ride. Listen/react to “Rock You”, “Hit Me”, “The Way She Walks” and “Coffee Break Is Over” for another dive into their insane chops. Im not a drummer, but seriously, I think that ALL of their tracks are mindblowing… 🔥🔥🔥 Oh yeah and I’ve subbed :) 🙏
And coming from metal and heavier stuff, I think you might really enjoy listening/reacting to some of their earlier stuff like “Sayonara Love”, “Ta Fête” (a Stromae cover) or “Dirty”. The drumming, as everything else on those tracks, is so hard hitting and out of this world…
Man, the metric modulations in that solo. What I love about Dirty Loops is that they blend pop music and jazz fusion so damn well. Like, there's legitimately some crazy stuff going on everywhere, but they always manage to keep a certain pop sensibility at the same time.
Swede here. Been following DL siince "forever". Saw them live in Stockholm in september. Equally crazy good. Another drummer you may yet happily discover is Senri Kawaguchi. On drumeo - the solos, and well allover the place on Ytube. A prodigy appearing already in her early teens on Ytube. I forecast that she will notch upp drumming bars duriing her life as a drummer, unless she already has.
Great reaction, thank you sir! 🙂A whole lot more where this came from (Sweden that is)... Check out their first video on RUclips "Hit me". They were just newborn really, straight from the hospital - still it sounds amazing!! ;-) Cheers, /New subscriber
Great reaction. It's very pleasing to watch someone who "knows their onions" react to music and musicians I enjoy. So thank you. There is a modest catalogue of Dirty Loops on YT. So more to come? I found Snarky Puppy and Dirty Loops via Jacob Collier. Collier is a multi-instrumentalist, but there his strengths are keyboards and guitars. Colliers harmonic and melodic understanding are often compared to Mozart, he's exceptional. For something different, maybe a musical 'palate-cleanser', maybe listen to his Emmy winning: _Jacob Collier - All Night Long (Official Video)_ ruclips.net/video/nspqYGz-Z1s/видео.html He likes unusual rhythms, like 'Gnawa'. His compositions and arrangements are complex, so he makes 'LOGIC breakdown' videos showing how he created a song. He wrote the entire orchestral arrangement in one night (using a synth and Mac), then flew to the Netherland to record it with the orchestra. Their scores were formatted and printed from his synth compositions. He records audio and video and usually assembles his videos too. He doesn't use any form of pitch correction on his singing voice. He's likely the most 'precise and accurate' singer we've heard. A good demo, again as a change is his Emmy winning acappella arrangement and performance of _Jacob Collier - Moon River_ ruclips.net/video/VPLCk-FTVvw/видео.html Jonah from Dirty Loops is one of the roughly 150 musicians who appear in the opening sequence. (Also Quincy Jones, the manager he shares with Dirty Loops, and the other 140+ musicians in his phone who responded to his text requesting the sing 'Moon') . It's a good demo of precision singing because he moves the scale of A around to suit his purposes. Best Wishes. ☮
Jacob is an insane musician, in every respect…… 🔥 Have you listened yet to his and Jonah’s collab, a track called Independent Girl? It’s insanity times two…. ;)
@@fiddlestix3025 Thank you for taking the time to tell me about it. I assume you mean _"Jonah Nilsson - Independent Girl (Feat. Jacob Collier)"?_ ruclips.net/video/_A7t0oIWdE4/видео.html Yes I've heard it; it's about a year old. Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful New Year. ☮
Jonah is a master of the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation - a complete recording studio on the computer…… DL uses Apple's Logic Pro X). His ability to layer vocals and enhance instruments such as adding a gated reverb to Aron's drums after the fact show his absolute mastery of a very complex program. He's a true wizard!
I know their good friend Simon Petrén does a lot of the mixing and mastering. And also the videos. He is mentioned in the credits a lot. I’ve had a few gigs with him some 15 years ago. And he is a studio wizard and piano master. :).
@@codygiron7814 you can’t find parts of out old gigs if you search for ‘officecrewtv’ you will find out big party gig. Haha. Try out officecrewtv jump van halen’ and you will hear Simon do the solo in the instrumental part.

I saw Aaron play a few times. And heard some of that bass. My wife is a French horn player and went to the same school as them. :).
@@mogglie I’m guessing you’ve seen/heard the "Turbo” collaboration with Cory Wong. I’m from Minnesota and when I was younger, I occasionally recorded at the studio (Prince’s Paisley Park) Cory recorded at. I bumped into the Dirty Loops YT videos a number of years ago and became so enamored of them - I can’t remember feeling that way about any group in decades - and so was thrilled these two outsized talents came together an ocean apart.
That's a studio recording put to the video. He played all that stuff, just not when you saw it in the video. There's also some timbale parts on the recording and you don't see anyone playing those do you? There's also an Brazilian Berimbau in a few sections, like the beginning and at another break in the song, and you don't see anyone playing that either. Still, they can play, at a high level, and the video serves the recording very well.
Since you're doomed to dive down the Dirty Loops rabbit hole and mentioning some of the bands you like I'll suggest this. It's short. But it's like 2.5 songs from a band that for like 2 years, just destroyed the hard rock scene in Los Angeles before their record deal went sideways (Virgin getting bought out years ago). But hit up "Dave Elitch Vic Firth". If you don't know Dave, he's played with The Mars Volta, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, The 1975, M83, Antemasque, Killer Be Killed, and the band he reunited for the video. Daughters of Mara. I have timestamps to the songs in his little masterclass (and if you want to play heavy I HIGHLY recommend you watch the whole thing. Dave teaches master classes at Musicians Institute in Hollywood). Best hard rock/metal band nobody has ever heard of and I'm REALLY hoping they put the whole thing back together. They're special. You'll love how Dave plays. Nobody hits harder, but with as much control as Dave Elitch. My guy's a beast.

The reason for the different drum tones is because Aron likes to mix with trigging to get the sonic image that he/them wants :)
@@mikaellavrell Ah, thanks! There you go; I was completely off. 😁
