- "The Mills Sisters", Rita and twins Cessa and Ina Mills recorded the song "Old TI"" for their album "Frangipani Land" released in 1993 on the Newmarket label ( NEW 1022.2 ). The song "Old TI" was written by well known Byron Bay musicians and identities Mookx Hanley and Shanto Oliver who have both since passed away. Mook Hanley and Shanto Oliver were heavily involved in the local Byron community and Byron music industry. They also wrote the song "Thursday Island Melody", both songs were also recorded by the famous "Mills Sisters". "TI" is what locals and those who know Thursday Island in the Torres Strait refer to it as.
The Mills Sisters who were from the island paradise of Thursday Island (TI) in the Torres Strait, were well known locally and had been singing for a number years touring both locally and Internationally. Cessa and Ina Mills retired from performing in the late 1990's whilst the their sister Rita continued a solo career until her death in 2004. It is said that no one knew where TI was until the Mills Sisters hit the world stage having been the opening act for International stars such as Charley Pride and Tina Turner.
Australian country music singer/songwriter Brian Young also recorded the song "Old TI" for his album titled "Brian Young Country" recorded in 1975 on the Opal Label ( OLLP 502 ). • Brian Young - Old TI. ...
