Ok Tony, heres my idea of a small compact trick board. Start with a smaller lighter motor, 4 or 5 inch hub. Make the board size somewhere between a pint and a xr. Then integrate a swappable battery. Swappable battery means you can use a smaller, lighter battery. If your battery dies just slide in the spare battery that you keep in your pocket. Design it so that there's a latch on both sides of the board to release the battery then the battery slides out the back . The battery would be encased in its own shell with its own bms. The connection would be made similar to a power drill battery to where the prongs can move slightly to prevent stress when hitting bumps. And make the connection prongs out of a non corrosive metal.
love this idea and how you shared some ways to implement the swappable batteries concept! can swap batteries with original range, extended range or higher voltage! In terms of size what you're hoping for is a growler size (0.75" shorter than XR), which is perfect trick board size. For the smallest, most portable board smaller than pint would be awesome. I'll send this to Tony, hope he creates something like this.
The prongs (+ and - power contacts) will need to be copper with a nickel flash and gold plating or they won't work. That's the only contact material that'll last more than a couple years in this application. Anything else with that level of vibration, water, contamination, etc will get fretting corrosion or tarnish. You could also silver plate it because even if silver gets an ugly black and green tarnish it'll still have high conductivity for high currents.
It is just so refreshing to see the owner of a onewheel like company sit down with someone from the community and have an honest conversation. Tony is part of the community! This has been one of my biggest issues with FM, they feel so disconnected. It's really sad.
I honestly can’t even imagine where the Onewheel space would be right now if not for Tony and the Floatwheel. Ever since I got my adv the GT has been sitting alone in the corner craving my attention but it’s not worthy of it. Thanks for the great interview!

I was a fairly early ADV order and my board came essentially DOA. I was sent replacement electronics very quickly free of charge with expedited shipping and was up and running. No issues since. Also battery drain has not been an issue - left the board for a month with about 5% battery drain. Super customer support - but yeah ADV might not be for everyone if you don't have riding experience and aren't willing to fix/diag yourself. For the experienced, VESC is a game changer for getting the ride you want.
Great interview! My thoughts for a new trick style board would include: lightweight, airplane friendly, hot swapable batteries, W rails, bumpers that screw on from the sides to delete bottom screws.
Super interesting interview. It anwsered a lot of questions I had. Thanks Max, for making this happen! And thanks Tony, for beeing down with it and anwsering all the questions! 👏👏👏 I hope we'll also see Tony on The Float Live (TFL's Podcast) someday.
fosho man! loved hearing Tony's perspectives on current and future topics, hope to have him here again soon and also on TFL. And wish I had gotten your handle while on video😆
A super small/light board would be not only a fun parking lot trick board, but even just a quick coffee ride or errands board (if the distance is short). Make the battery easy to remove/swap, and keep it under the airline travel capacity restrictions, and I'm sure a lot of Onewheel addicts would jump on it, especially if priced low!
an ultra small yet still punchy board would fill in so many of those little moments where u just need a quick rip. Quick swappable batteries would def be a game changer! If you haven't seen Vid's swappable battery design of his VX Wheel check him out ruclips.net/video/__1CYnH7_uM/видео.html
Tony and John are legends! I do like the idea of an XR-like board or shorter, not sure if smaller than Pint. I'm not big and still got used to the ADV form factor really quickly (besides the weight haha). Those 5in hubs sound pretty cool too. Great interview!
ADV and GT owner here. Second the "GT as a beginner" aspect, but very happy with my ADV now. Excited about GTV and ADV BM2 (my ADV self discharges much faster than the GT). Would love an air travel compatible floatwheel!!! OMG... Please take preorders! For now, the GT will be my daughter's "trainer board". 😊 Keep out the dealers. Only reliable shipment tracking would be improvable.

Fascinating and refreshing that they are so focused on their mission of present and future Floatwheels that they don't have time to make and sell merch... but they'd buy and wear it if someone else sells it. Build that travel-friendly board Tony! I wish I had a board* that I could take with on trips. The Pint is just a bit to heavy and bulky. Maybe with a smaller hub, and a quick-disconnect battery pack? If it breaks down super easy, that may be all we need.
Amazing interview. Thanks! To Tony’s question, a travel board would be amazing, but I thought the issue is more the battery voltage and current and not the board size. I love my Pint X. It was my first board and I actually prefer it for off-roading though I wish it had more torque. A travel board would be amazing.
yup I agree, having that ultra portable pocket ripper board would be so convenient for travel. It should have some sort of swappable battery design like Vid created with his VX Wheel: ruclips.net/video/__1CYnH7_uM/видео.html I'll let Tony know and see what he thinks!
In regards to Tony's question about whether or not we need a small board that's travel friendly, I think we need an easily-swappable, flight-friendly battery for a pint-sized board. I would love to be able to take my Pint X to another country and hit up some trails but there's no way I can get it on a plane.
Great video. Thank you both for this update. I need to get in touch with them. I ordered one, but I guess my usdc didn’t go through cause I just looked at it and it’s still in my account.
Great interview Max! And good to learn more about Tony and how he is a rider before starting the company! Would love more interview videos like that for TFL or Craft & Ride, riders like Nico Aleman -‘d others!
thank u! yea pretty fascinating background Tony has, and now he's become a visionary in our space :) will have more awesome interviews down the road yee
I don’t understand the GT kit you guys were talking about. What is it. And if it gives you more torque do you lose speed on the top end? Thank you. I know it you probably got a shit ton of comments lol. Great interview. And I have not yet messed with any vesc.
Very cool interview, thanks Maxx! I would not want something much smaller than a growler. Love a growler, because it's basically a Pint but with decent size footpads. I liked my Pint until I got an XR, and now I find the footpads annoyingly small. And this is with size 10 feet. In terms of a shorter board, I also like to keep my front foot at a 45 degree angle, so I also like the XR footpad length. That mockup of the super short XR looks barely rideable to me, I'd be forced to keep my foot perpendicular to the board.
ay much appreciated dude! fair point, if it were too short it wouldn't be comfortable for larger feet. however if there were 2 versions that Tony comes out with, 1 shorter, lighter, growler size trick board and the other being the ultra small portable, air travel friendly board (with swappable batteries maybe?), that would fill all needs I think. Also if the smallest board were to have wider XR sized pads and flare out like the kush wide, I think that would help a lot.
@@MaxxSendFootpad flare like the Kush Wide could work, but at that point there are still size concerns in terms of being able to fit in a bag, so I guess I don't see much benefit in a smaller board with flared pads. But so long as I can get my whole foot on the pad at a 45 degree angle with minimal overhang, I'd be happy. Swappable batteries would solve a lot, so long as it was a quick swap. I'd rather optionally carry 5-10lbs of swappable batteries in a backpack than have it in my board. Not for carrying the board, just to keep the board snappy underfoot and not have it so thick. XR or growler with swappable packs would be ideal for me. 20s2p 18650 packs fit between the rails without removing them from the hub, so it seems possible with a hinged footpad to access the battery compartment. Then 20s1p stunt packs as an option. Though that would still be above the FAA watt hour limit to fly. I don't think anything above 63V is doable under the FAA limit - that's basically a Pint pack. Maybe with some of those exotic sized smaller li ions, but I don't think they have the discharge characteristics we want.
Loved the interview! And thanks for getting our questions in there. Don’t forget about Tech-Rails. They came out with the smaller wheels, cooling axle blocks and GT rails before TFL. Shoemaker has been pushing innovations in this community too. Looking forward to all FloatWheel has to offer. Keep putting out the great content!
I'm hoping that Tony will offer a 50s battery option. All the new high end EUC's currently are on 50s and it seems to be working out very well. It would provide the Floatwheel an instant increase in range without an increase in weight!
I love my Pint and I would love to have an option for a small board that I can easily take on airplanes and on holidays. The only downside for my Pint is the range. 9-10Km is too short.
Purchased an ADV 2nd hand and my main complaints are: 1)cracking bumpers 2) handle broke 3) i do a lot of curb drops and already seeing hairline fractures on the rails 4) the app isnt the best 5) bluetooth connectivity issues. People online kept telling me to reach out to floatwheel but i bought it used and i personally dont like fixing things that break. Id rather just buy something that doesnt break. My ADV sits around more than it used too since i use a GT for commuting. Way more reliable and doesnt break or require much assembly /maintenance .
You don't know the difficulty to buy a onewheel here in Mexico, i don't even want to imagine the tech support nightmare in case of a faulty OW. ADV is the answer for us "international" buyers, I'll buy one as soon as they're available 🎉
Rather than a small trick board, I’d say go big… as in an 8inch hub - especially if getting near euc-level watts is a goal. That will give more clearance for a thicker battery + controller box, say 30s3p of 21700s, and you might still even have space left to make the batteries modular and flyable, like with the vxwheel. Rails could still be lowered to retain stability. This might give us the power and stability we need to start doing proper big jumps, when combined with remote tilt. Burris already make a 8in tyre too. Seeing as Tony’s got the whole adv platform as bespoke/ not compatible with FM/3rd party parts like bumpers, footpads etc, no need to stick with the crowd’s form factor - just make a big-ass hub motor, build a new form-factor around that, and send it! If it performs, people will definitely pay more than an adv costs for a supreme board like this, and it would be offering something that fungineers won’t do anytime in the near future I’d guess
interesting idea, could definitely be something to pursue down the road. For sure I think there are merits in going both smaller and larger. However wouldn't an 8in hub require like an 11in tire? An 8in Burris tire wouldn't fit on an 8 inch hub lol but if it were say a 10in tire on an 7in hub that could reduce the board's carving responsiveness. Unless if it were like an 10 in tire that's like 7in wide, with more power in the hub while still being carvy, that would be pretty interesting. Let's see what Tony thinks!
@@MaxxSend lol yea the Burris I mentioned is for an 8in hub sorry - it’s a whopping 15in high… rather large but you can easily ride that wide comfortably on a snowboard, and a surfboard most of the time, would just require adjusting a bit of muscle memory. Might be less carvy, but the extra torque/power should compensate with responsiveness to a fair degree I’d imagine. Defs wouldn’t be a trick board though 😅 Even 7in would be legit if it had more copper in the stator than the superflux. Not sure if there’s any other tyres that fit a 7in hub out there but even if there aren’t, it wouldn’t matter too much if Tony made a decent custom tyre for it, like he does with the floatwheel anyway. If the big 7/8in hub motor took more juice than anything else available, it’d only be a matter of time before heaps of people started buying it and 3rd party manufacturers started making custom moulds to fit it anyhow. This is where the future of progression/innovation is at I reckon - I wanna see someone do a jump on the nitro circus mega ramp on a Onewheel one day 😆 we need moooaa powa!! ⚡️
@@TheFloatLife I’m gonna have to spend some time learning about this stuff, it just takes time. I would totally sign up and pay for a workshop that teaches people the ins and outs about this stuff. Edit: I really just want to buy something off the shelf though because I’m impatient and lazy at times.
@@laurentbeauregard4666 XR platform is still hard to beat. You just need to either get a lil focer controller or a XR-V controller kit from FW and then a big battery like 75 ME4T or 84V torque pack. Comparable power, more range than GTS.
I have over 3500km on my Oneweel V1 but the battery is dead now and i have no money for a Floatweel but someday... But living without my oneweel is sad it was the funmachine of every day...
I travel for work a lot and would absolutely love a travel board in addition to my adv. Although a lot of airplanes, at least in Europe, seem to be banning "battery powered transportation devices" in general nowadays :(
@MaxxSend something like that but I've seen a more refined version somewhere. Also I think Tony needs to start designing a board with a built in suspension. We need more people saying this.
@@FloatinCanada agree on the suspension front - that would be sick. Where’d you see the more refined vxwheel lookalike though? Maybe you are just thinking of the vxwheel #4 he is prototyping right now? If not, I’d love a link
why not make the trick board as light and balanced as possible? I would think that the priority for a trick board would not be power. Also would rails also be compatible?
yup light and balanced, that's why Tony mentioned having a split 10s1p pack on each side of the board, and possibly having the esc in the motor (not sure for adv 2 or 3 or for this trick board). Not sure on the rails, but if it's smaller I don't think you would wanna use the og adv rails :)
About the Distributors, the main advantage is a distributor can sell a completed, configured board which is a barrier for a lot of people. spread the love! reconsider distributors outside the US :) (If they don't sell to US there shouldn't be any threats haha)
fair point, include some labor for assembly and software setup for the increase in price, keep it reasonable and there should be plenty of people. Maybe Tony will reconsider :)
Addressing the range issue of the new adv 2 (XR version)? How much range is it compared to the GT? GT Vesc sound amazing but we also need mew battery pack (if the old one is losing range) I have 12th size feet, I did not like the Pint compared to GT. So smaller might not be for me.
@MaxxSend my GT will send "over-regen signals when I go downhill and the battery is around 50-60%, and the board will stop as if it's over charged. Do you think the drop in controller will fix that problem? I don't want to pay FM $600 for an issue I proved to them was on their behalf by sending them all the emails of customers with the same issues that they fixed free of charge.
I wanted to buy the exact product Tony described, but it was not available and I need reassurance that multiple airlines will allow m to travel with it. The grey area of having a board rejected at the airport is a no go for us business travelers.
yea that grey area where certain airlines care and others don't is too risky to deal with the hassle. But if it were a swappable battery design like Vid of his VX wheel, it would be pretty legit.. ruclips.net/video/__1CYnH7_uM/видео.html
I really want a pint or smaller wheel for traveling. Feature 1) able to break down like verial rail for a easy travel and packing 2) swapping battery packs
Is the pint allowed on a plane? I would definitely love a board that I can travel on a plane with. The battery is the biggest problem I'm sure. If I could have a board that is legal to travel on a plane with I would definitely buy to add to my other boards collection. As long as it is pretty capable for what it is
pint is supposed to be allowed on planes because the battery wh is low enough. problem is your luck depends from airline to airline, some allow it without a care, others make a big deal out of it and then force you to leave it behind which becomes a huge hassle. If Tony comes out with that smaller board with a swappable battery, it'd be win-win across the board!
I hope u watched most of the vid? 😅 U go to his site floatwheels.ru and pay with bitcoin (cuz fm won't allow him to accept any other form of payment right now). If u don't have bitcoin there are some vids with instructions here 34:39
did he ever hint at actual suspension? nobody mentioned to ask him lol Tony says best way to upgrade your board is to do his e-kit + TFL 5" hub for suspension feel and torque @ 40:43
a light board with a swappable batteries that are flight approved would actually be a dream... I'm from Poland and I'm thinking about taking my board somewhere warmer for a week... but the only option is road/train travel now I know I have to set up some way of crypto payment for march :) does anybody know If revolut options are enough?
Ok Tony, heres my idea of a small compact trick board. Start with a smaller lighter motor, 4 or 5 inch hub. Make the board size somewhere between a pint and a xr. Then integrate a swappable battery.
33:33 This is Called the "Cat Distribution System" (CDS). 😂
Next is how to vesc your cat with the Gen 3 kit 🤣😺
Loved the interview! And thanks for getting our questions in there. Don’t forget about Tech-Rails. They came out with the smaller wheels, cooling axle blocks and GT rails before TFL. Shoemaker has been pushing innovations in this community too. Looking forward to all FloatWheel has to offer. Keep putting out the great content!
thanks man! appreciate u supporting. can't wait for Tony's next big moves :)
I'm hoping that Tony will offer a 50s battery option. All the new high end EUC's currently are on 50s and it seems to be working out very well. It would provide the Floatwheel an instant increase in range without an increase in weight!
Tony is the real MVP
Smaller Lighter board is the way to go!
it'd be so damn fun to rip that everywhere!
Yes to a more manageable Pint type wheel. Travel friendly would be OK but even better would just be LIGHTER to use more easily as last mile transport.
It would be cool if Tony made an updated assembly and vesc program video I cannot find one?
Thanks for this interview! Was great to get to know Tony more and understand the history, passion, and direction he wants to take the community!
I love my Pint and I would love to have an option for a small board that I can easily take on airplanes and on holidays.
The only downside for my Pint is the range. 9-10Km is too short.
Tony is dope! Very fluent in english as well
Purchased an ADV 2nd hand and my main complaints are: 1)cracking bumpers 2) handle broke 3) i do a lot of curb drops and already seeing hairline fractures on the rails 4) the app isnt the best 5) bluetooth connectivity issues. People online kept telling me to reach out to floatwheel but i bought it used and i personally dont like fixing things that break. Id rather just buy something that doesnt break. My ADV sits around more than it used too since i use a GT for commuting. Way more reliable and doesnt break or require much assembly /maintenance .
I’m in New Zealand and gtv is my only option so yes
Any release date for the XR kit? Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Defs wouldn’t be a trick board though 😅
Even 7in would be legit if it had more copper in the stator than the superflux.
I just want an XR form with S series power. Won’t be getting another board until I see something like this.
Thank you Maxx for getting this interview set up, great for the skeptics out there (myself included)
a 75V ME4T pack is pretty much that for me.
@@TheFloatLifewhere can this be purchased?
I have a question abot the Hun event! So for me its really wierd to pay by crypto I am hungarian can i buy an ADV durring the event?
I have over 3500km on my Oneweel V1 but the battery is dead now and i have no money for a Floatweel but someday... But living without my oneweel is sad it was the funmachine of every day...
What about a 6in billet? Would that also work? I prefer the 6in hub over the 5in, I got N48 magents so hopefully it works around the same
I travel for work a lot and would absolutely love a travel board in addition to my adv. Although a lot of airplanes, at least in Europe, seem to be banning "battery powered transportation devices" in general nowadays :(
A mini trick adv would pair so well with the trail adv! Hopefully with small enough battery it'll be more chill
I think if the board battery is removable completely then it won't be a battery powered device anymore. I think that would be the best way.
@@FloatinCanada if he creates something similar to Vid's design that would solve everything ruclips.net/video/__1CYnH7_uM/видео.html
Not sure on the rails, but if it's smaller I don't think you would wanna use the og adv rails :)
good vid, thanks
56:52 Hoegaarden glass? Good choice 🍺. Greets from Belgium.

Yes, theres is a need and desire for a smaller Pint!!
Love the pint platform, just not enough battery and torque for a bigger rider
i cant wait for V2 and to throw money at Tony and the team :D
19:06 I think this is because of the government hammer that hit onewheel. The same hammer that made them implement that annoying alarm
Definitely would buy the smaller board that can be taken on planes or easier to transport. Make it and it'll sell for sure!
I 100th that!
GT Vesc sound amazing but we also need mew battery pack (if the old one is losing range)
I have 12th size feet, I did not like the Pint compared to GT. So smaller might not be for me.
Ready for that drop in kit 🔥
about 1 more month yee
Looking forward to the GTV kit. FM told me no more support for me, like the soup Nazi's they are, LOL.
bring it back to life baby! with even more powerr :)
Team Floatwheel, love my ADV Pro, give me a jersey plzzzz lol
Team FW all the way baby! U can make your own FW branded jersey and rep/sell it. I'll possibly be making some🤘🏻
Already saving for Q3 2025. The threat is not getting another dime.
I really want a pint or smaller wheel for traveling. Feature 1) able to break down like verial rail for a easy travel and packing 2) swapping battery packs
ooo the ability to break down easily would be sick! and swappable battery pack for normal or extended range
RIGHT TO REPAIR Legendary businessman.
he walks the talk!
Where can I buy a float wheel?
I hope u watched most of the vid? 😅 U go to his site floatwheels.ru and pay with bitcoin (cuz fm won't allow him to accept any other form of payment right now). If u don't have bitcoin there are some vids with instructions here 34:39

did he ever hint at actual suspension? nobody mentioned to ask him lol Tony says best way to upgrade your board is to do his e-kit + TFL 5" hub for suspension feel and torque @ 40:43
