I remember this episode, the victim had it coming after he stole the identity of a WWII veteran who was a sniper and took out hundreds of thousands of dollars of loans which resulted in the Vet's house being foreclosed and him finding out when he was evicted.
Jeez. Thank you for sharing the plot. Some people would say it's spoilers, but not me.

Say what you will.. that was a good scream.
Yeah, good acting there.
I thought the same thing. Incredibly gifted screamer.
My daughter could scream EXACTLY like that when she was little and saw a bug.
The reason my hair turned white at an early age.
Yeah but you generally scream before going "Oh god, Andy?!" because someone has been SHOT in your home.
@@michaelfawcett9935 Not necessarily. She might have thought he just fell and was struggling to get back up. It took a few seconds to realize that wasn’t the case. 🤷🏻

Jerry had a great Broadway career from 1960s thru 1980s.
El Gallo in the original off-Broadway run of The Fantasticks (1960) and became the first performer to sing that show's standard "Try to Remember", Billy Flynn in the original Chicago (1975-1977), and Julian Marsh in 42nd Street (1980-1985). Nominated for multiple Tony Awards, Jerry Orbach won the Tony for his performance as Chuck Baxter in Promises, Promises (1968-1972).

Loved that episode cause deadbeat smuck robs old black man and figures that he could get away with it through the web. Never underestimate a man who has nothing to lose. Horrible for the family but he should have come clean. She had a job and they could have cut coners. Sorry no pity.
Let me just say, the guy who plays "Lonnie Jackson", Paul Benjamin, gives one of the best guest performances I've ever seen in this episode. Really great show, my only complaint being that the resolution should have been longer. Truly awesome though
I liked the lawyer that represented him too

I always felt bad for the defendant in this case. I always thought he was more of a victim than the actual victim. I wish he would've gotten off.
Sorry, but as much as I sympathize with the victim, what happened to him didn't justify killing the man. Hell, he'd have had a slam dunk case if he'd taken the guy to court.
@@sonrouge I disagree.
I'm on your side because it really sickened me to see that just with a strum of the computer keys he completely destroyed Lonnie Jackson's life!
I don't care Andrew Hitchens lost his job or that he had a Wife and 2 kids. He had no right to ruin an 80 year old man's life and make him loose his only home!
@@jermed2001 I disagree with you
@@specterman2000 Still doesnt change the fact that he committed murder. Like @sonrouge said, he could've easily just taken the guy to court and have a slam dunk case. But instead chose to take a life.

(live in the same city & it is or was a ‘popular’ scam).
I remember they used to air this show in reruns on certain channels everyday at like 10 episodes in a row. And there were SO many of them and the plots were so twisty by the time it went around again I would completely have forgotten what had happened so I probably watched each one like 5 times and was still surprised at the outcome. Also just to say...Lenny was the best character in TV history.
I thought Lenny was the best of the Detectives. a skinnier version of Andy Sipowitz

By the looks of her condition, there was more to the decision than pay.

I respect the people who play dead bodies on these shows. They don't have any lines but they have to lay down and be fully relaxed and limp in uncomfortable positions for at the very least an hour or way more so they can get the right shots for the scenes. It's worse when they poke or move the body for other scenes and they can't react at all. No one really remembers them.
I love that "Ya... Us." at the end haha
As an actor, dancer, and pool player, i will always miss Jerry Orbach! 😓

Over 1.5 million people live in Manhattan and there's not one "Hitchens" that does business at their bank? ... really!?
Thats what I was thinking! And after such a great line of "who?!" With realism.
Probably a case of economy of storytelling. :) If a "Hitchens" was found in the bank's database, the cops would have to track down that separate lead, rather than immediately get on the right trail. Which would leave less time for the actual meat of the story (and less time with the great guest star of the episode).
I work at an optometrist office and you'd be surprised the names that do and don't come up. There's names I've never heard of that have 3-4 entries and names you'd think everyone has that pull up 1 or 0. It happens.
About one person in 120,000 had the name Hitchens at the time the episode came out. That means a dozen or so in Manhattan. Not crazy that there isn't one in this bank's database.

Law and Order was SO much better than SVU. Hands down.
Yes and writing is So believable ✍🏻
I agree
its the same house used in the episode where the couple were stabbed to death in their bed
I want to know how L&O came up with the iconic sound they use with each scene title ☺️❤️
it’s apparently the sound of cell doors closing
"Post told "The Law & Order: SVU" podcast in 2020 that he sampled the sound of a jail door slamming shut as well as the sound of a man hitting an anvil with a hammer and some different drum noises his team came up with in the studio. He thought it needed more "heft to it," so he incorporated a sound he found of 100 men stomping on a wood floor in Japan. "
I love it when it's one I never saw before! Cheers!
The reason why she didn't scream right away was because her brain was trying to process that he was shot.

Kids probably ran in right after that and got scarred for life.

One thing that always bothered me about this episode was putting Rusty's business card back in his pocket. I mean, they didn't even verify his story and he's getting rid of the guy's contact information?
I think that Green was actually lacing his card in Rusty's pocket. You are right that Briscoe and Green would keep Rusty's card. I think the way Green says "Yeah, he's running from us" as he places the card in Rusty's pocket suggests that the card will tell Rusty who "us" is.
I would have kept the card. You never know when you'll need it.

I know they didn't include this in the video, but my theory was that Andy got his coworker pregnant - hence the reason why his work let him go EIGHT MONTHS ago - and he took out all of that money to pay her child support. I thought either his wife murdered him out of revenge when she found out, or it was his pregnant mistress because he wanted nothing to do with the baby.
Nice house.
Uh huh. Something about the wife's explanations about her day seems off.

There no fool like an old prideful fool. If the old dude just went to a lawyer, and swallowed a bit of that pride, he could've kept his house. You can steal a mans house online, but it can also be reversed online. At least he now as three hots and a cot for the rest of his life.
He probably couldn’t. His son wanted to put him in a nursing home. If he let it be known he was scammed, he’d lose his house either way.
@@WadeAlma First off, he prob should've been in an assisted care center to begin with, but once his pride wouldn't let him. Second, there is no shame in being scammed... as it happens to a lot of people, senile or not. If everyone who got scammed was sent to a home, we would prob have 1/3 less people walking the streets. Third, his son is a doctor who makes plenty of money. They could've sold the home and the son could've paid for any nursing home or assisted care facility. Lastly, even if they couldn't get the home back, they could've gotten at least fair market value as compensation, as the title company and maybe even the bank were liable. To get a home transferred legally, you need to have it notarized... which is an in-person event in which you have to show a valid non-expired ID.
@@fialee8 First off, he was capable of taking care of himself. He did not need assisted living.
Second, he felt there was shame. Especially since it would lead to him losing his house either way.
Lastly, what does it matter if they got it back? The father was not going to be allowed to live in it. His son was effectively stealing from him. Not just his home, but his freedom.
You sound like the son here. Entirely selfish.
@@WadeAlma Let's see, he lost his home, too proud to tell the police or social services or his son to get it back (prideful old fool)... and then commits pre-mediated murder. Yeah, this guy is mentally sane and can take care of himself (in prison). Also, the son is a doctor, and could care less about the home (because if he did, he would be paying more attention to it, and it prob wouldn't been scammed).
@@fialee8 Let’s see.
He lost his home.
If he were to tell anyone, he would be put in a nursing home. He would never get it back even if he told someone.
He was capable of premeditated murder. Meaning he was not insane. It was planned.
His son calls him once. During Christmas. Why would a loving son, call only once a year? Hmmmm. If he was worried about his father’s health wouldn’t he involve himself with his father more? Verrrry strange.

Why do women scream hysterically? I’ve never screamed like that in my life
It used to be in style. Back in the 1950s you could act in a horror movie just by having a compelling scream.
If I found out that one of my employees surrendered personal information of a client without being compelled by a warrant, I'd string her up. This show does this all the time -- makes it look like the cops can just weasel information by telling someone it's "urgent", or threatening to get a warrant. This is not how it's done in the real world.
You mean, a cop cutting corners? No, it literally happens every day. Let's not pretends cops aren't human talking to other humans. You get a pity story about some kids dying and all of sudden, everyone is tripping over themselves to help the boys in blue.

May I share this with you, if you don't mind?
God says in His Word in Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
I hope you already know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, but if you don't know Him, you can know Him today!
Jesus suffered, bled, and died to pay for your sins and mine, out of love for us!
Salvation is in faith: you must first realize that you are a lost sinner and will die and burn in hell for all eternity without Jesus Christ.
Once you see yourself, all you need to do is repent of your sins, and put your faith in Jesus Christ: believe with all your heart that He will forgive every sin and save you from hell. Ask Him to save your soul from hell, with all faith and all sincerity.
If you have never gone in prayer to Jesus: repented of your sins and put your faith in Him, now is the time, my friend.
