- Join me as I brew the Black is Beautiful. While reading up on the beer I saw that it was suggested to do a reiterated mash, so O decided to give it a try.

nice video, thanks! i am about to try this technique for a barleywine this week. cant believe i havent found your channel until now.
Great video, as always. I love the casual presentation of your vids and always enjoy the kids' appearances. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Evan! These “assistant brewers” of mine keep me on my toes.
The kids are clutch. Gotta be my favorite part of these videos.
Great content sir
I might have to give this recipe a try. It’s great that some many people are supporting the cause.
It’s a good beer if you haves tried a commercial version. The version I made was supposed to be about 8% ABV but most commercial versions are 10% ABV and up. It’s a big beer and full of flavor. Plus some breweries are putting their own spin on it. I’ve seen peanut butter, chocolate, and fruited versions.
@@fantasticfermentations5637 Yeah, I saw someone do a "tropical stout" version for the warm summer. Seemed similar to what you were going for.
I’m using this technique for my B is B beer on Saturday. I’m shooting for 10%. I’m using the Grainfather system. I’m brewing the weathered souls brewery version of this beer. Clayton, NC
With this kind of stronger stout I guess it will benefit from a bit of aging?
Aging never hurts a big Stout. I don’t think it’s always necessary though. If you have a good fermentation and keep off flavors to a minimum you can start drinking most stouts pretty soon after fermentation is over. Most breweries that are brewing this beer are producing it in a normal ale cycle. I have already kegged mine and will be sharing the tasting notes video tomorrow.
You don't happen to remember what you used for strike and sparge water do you?
Do you mean volumes? Temperature? Water chemistry?
Volumes
I started with 5 gallons of mash water. After the first mash I lifted the basket and sparged until I hit 5.5 gallons. I then did my second mash and sparged until I was at my 6 gallon pre boil volume.
@@fantasticfermentations5637 thanks for the info and videos, this is gonna be first reiterated mash for me too.
I never knew the technical name for this process. Always refer to it as a double mash single boil.
Same here! When I watched the video of the guy who made the recipe for Black is Beautiful, I was so confused when he used the correct wording. That’s what pushed me to try it.
So did you mash each batch for an hour each?
I went with 45 minutes each mash.
