yes he did lmao.. or at least he went pretty damn close to how arabs would say it compared to people in supermarkets calling it “hummis” it genuinely sounded like a voiceover from someone like golden balance
As a Leb, I approve. Also next time you’re making it (for an event or smth), try keeping a couple chickpeas from being ground up, and at the end put them on top of the hummus platter and it adds a nice texture change that might be appreciated.
The effort in the pronunciation of Hummus is very much appreciated and respected. When people pronounce it Humis it the equivalent of pronouncing Guacamole like Whak a mole or a Fajita with a strong J. Your pronunciation shows care and respect to the culture and food even if its not perfect its appreciated. Ps i know people have trouble pronouncing that and other foreign words that use letters that dont exist in other languages but just getting the beat right is super appreciated. 😊
@@pooddescrewch8718It's really not. Trying to match the original pronunciation of a word from a foreign language is a sign of respect towards that culture. I'll always have more respect for people who make an effort to show appreciation than towards people who just dismiss the efforts of people trying to be respectful. I guess you're just incapable of doing the bare minimum, that's why you can't stand people trying their best.

THIS chef is a gem. I adore his style. As for the hummus, I had no idea people mispronounced it until I saw a couple of American "Lives" where chefs slaughtered the pronounciation. I understand the gratitude expressed here by those of us glad to hear it RIGHT. lol ... and yes, I am American too, but have lived in Europe for 25 years. When people scoff at me correcting their pronounciations of the foreign words and think I am making an unnecessary 'big deal' -- those people need to think how annoying it would be to have someone insist on mispronouncing THEIR names... and constantly. LOL This hummus recipe is fabulous btw. DO try it. It is so authentic and just perfect. The addiition of cayenne and/or cumin suggested by someone above is also fantastic in it. This guy is go nice to watch !!!
Traditionally, it has cumin and salt as seasoning. But ofcrs, anything with cayenne tastes better 🫶🏻😇 my arab mom would disown me if she found out that I add paprika to it my homemade hummus 😂😂😂
A few points to consider: 1. I think hummus almost always has cumin added to it (traditionally in order to help with bloating later) 2. Letting the chickpeas soak until they are just starting to sprout showing a tiny tiny white tail can produce a very nice flavor profile, especially for Musabaha 3. A lot of people use crushed raw garlic and complain of an overwhelming flavor, an alternative would be the following: crushing a garlinc with a mortar and pestle and a bit of water, then strain the garlic infused water and use that for a milder garlic taste, it's a method used by Hummus Said in Acre.
@asten9647 Lots of Jordanian, Syrian, Lebanonian, Iraqi, Egyptian and Yemeni Jews immigrated to Israel and brought their cuisine- hummus, falafel, shawarma, shakshuka, and alot of other dishes. Contrary to current belief, Israel is extremely multicultural and has many ethnicities and religions instead of it being the equivalent of apartheid South Africa.
@benjaminzarkhin1293 so it isn't Israeli food. It's food from those places. Israel doesn't have any original cuisine. We literally got there less than 100 years ago. Before that, jews in that area were Palestinian.
