I have one particularly vivid memory from childhood, in the classroom, when I was just seven, my friend Carl showed me his model of the Matchbox Mercury Cougar “Rat Rod Dragster”, this was like no model car I’d seen before. The car was bright lime green with an exposed engine. I was familiar with the earlier Mercury Cougar, which had opening doors and came in a metallic light green, but this was something new. Hot Wheels hadn’t made a direct impact on my childhood at that time (1971) in England the pocket money rivals of Matchbox were the Corgi Juniors and Corgi Rockets. Seeing this video , transported me back nearly 50 years.
Fantstic! Matchbox Mercury Cougar has always been my favorite diecast car ever. I had several as a kid and actually have 12 various versions now at the age of 55. I absolutely love that paint job!
Definitely an improvement from the original. Love that color green. Excellent job Danny. Thanks for sharing another great video, take care and stay safe.
It will be coming your way then when I finally get round to sending your parcel. I'll try to get onto your special build finished before this lockdown is over. Sorry its been ages, I kind of have to be in the mood to do more complex builds 👍
Danny's Diecast Disasters thanks heaps buddy. Just seeing you build on the channel is awesome enough, so you don’t need to send me anything. I have a box here for you which I’ll get around to sending soon.
Unusual for Matchbox to use primer - maybe because it's a spectraflame(ish) light colour. The green you used goes beautifully with the new wheels - looks so much better, especially *without* the stupid decals. Great job Danny.👍
Awesome job Danny, I have a soft spot for these Mercury Cougars. I did the non rat rod version of this awhile back but I have this exact same casting in a box waiting to be done, couldn't decide what to do with it but after seeing yours it's given me some thoughts :)
As I was watching the educational video; it revamped the memory of when, Sam the sheepdog was driving his 1900s roadster. Meanwhile Ralph the wolf; was driving his hot rod, right over to the sheep pasture.
I remember these Matchbox cars as a kid. I used to really like them even more than some Hot Wheels. Some had the suspension, the big fat tires, and they just looked better. Now the "tooned" ones not so much but the Jaguar you've done is one of my top Matchbox cars ever. This is a good one too. Matchbox may not have been as "FAST" as Hot Wheels, but I still raced them. I was never a one brand kid. I had Corgi, Matchbox, Hot Wheels, etc. If it had wheels and could race I raced it. This series though is really a walk down memory lane in many cases. I just WISH I could find some of these older cars in ok shape and not have to pay $30+.
I think that original lime color was supposed to be "Mopar Green", a racing color that Dodge used for a short time in the late 60s. Excellent work as always, I love the transformation on this one.
Awesome 👍 good job. I just finished my own car same casting but mine was in much worse condition. Now mine is blue with a custom engine. Love the green though.
you were right getting rid of that lime green. it even begins to fade over the years... this green now looks more serious. :) together with the wheels, especially. ^^
It would look nice if you detailed the wipers and rear view mirror on the windshield, I’m a perfectionist when it comes to detail. Other than that excellent job, love the color Danny.
Woww Thats 1 Bad Ass Cougar Love The Paint Job And Ready For The Drag Strip

Love that color! This car is screaming for some white racing stripes, good stuff as always!
As I was watching the educational video; it revamped the memory of when, Sam the sheepdog was driving his 1900s roadster. Meanwhile Ralph the wolf; was driving his hot rod, right over to the sheep pasture.

Great as always, just wished you’d put some flames on it
Very nice👍
Good wheels always make a car 🤟🏼
Awesome 👍
Rear wheels look huge! I know it's meant to be a dragster, but they'd look ok on a rail rather than a modified.

I realize this video is 3 yrs old. Could you please show how you install new tires/ rims on custom axles?
Hi Danny, where did you find the wheels for that sized car? I’ve got a Cougar and a Javelin finished but waiting for suitable wheels. Cheer, Rick
Scuderia 73
Where did the wheels come from ? I heard you say custom wheels but of coarse no real info but I like them!
