It's clear that Mario and Luigi are playing the game all wrong. They only use one die (they're supposed to use two), they pay both the sale and mortgage price on the properties (they're only supposed to pay the sale price, the mortgage is for when they need more money to pay the other's rent), whenever one lands on the other's property, they try to buy it from them instead of just paying the rent, and Luigi paid for repairs to houses and hotels he didn't even have (you need to have two or three of the same color property to build houses or hotels).
