The MTR 90 MK II and MK III are some of the best machines ever made! Easy to maintain and they sounded marvelous, especially with noise reduction… you could get really wide dynamic range with Dolby SR and really nice rock tracks with Dolby A. Black machines? Special orders are never a problem for a customer oriented manufacturer.
By the way… one of the last well built workhorse consoles was the Sony MXP-3000. While it wasn’t cheap, it was also a very solidly built console with higher quality switches, double-sided and through hole plated circuit boards that also had interchangeable EQs and mic preamps. The Quad Eight Westar was designed by the same design team. I once met the team leader who told me that Mitsubishi hired the very same design team that had designed the Sony console to design the Westar, but gave them free reign to add features that Sony wouldn’t allow them to add. Realize that one goal of a design is to accommodate a specific price point. All in all, both consoles are still very similar to the MCI 600 series, just updated. (Remember, Sony bought MCI, so had all of the initial designs to work from.)

HI there Jim!!! Yes Ill second that comment on MTR 90s. II and IIIs. I had a III for a while and man was it a great sounding machine and built like a tank!! Weighed as much as one as well!! Quad Studios in Nashville had several IIs and they almost never failed. Seriously reliable machines. And yes that sound was fantastic!!!

@@millslogan3750 OMG Mills... so good to hear from you! My guess is that you're still doing well. I'm now in Gilbert, Arizona... the Phoenix metro area... and while functionally 'retired' I do still work in music a bit as well as other things for additional income. We should catch up sometime. Trying to find out whatever happened to Willie Pevear and Tom Brown.
