Another of your videos I enjoyed. Agreed with Dylan. Worth checking out the Bootleg series with the outtakes from Time out of mind. I was lucky to see Bill Fay join Wilco on stage in the late 2000’s in London. Be not so fearful ❤
I was recommended your channel yesterday and I’ve only watched a few videos so far but I have gotten so many great recommendations from just the short time I’ve been here, so thank you!
Another great topic/video! Some selections I’d make. Neil Young - Sleeps With Angels - I know this can come off as a hipster take but it’s my #1 Neil. In my opinion the most underrated rock album. Willie Nelson - Spirit - staggering work. Van Morrison - Healing Game - can’t miss. Tough as nails. Bob Dylan - Love and Theft - I’m an all-in latter-day-Dylan truther and this one is the one I’d go with as best and I have it in his Top 4. I’ll give a nod to our guy Farrar, I really enjoy Day of the Doug.
Cruel country is a great album and a regular on my turntable. Just wanted to say I saw Jason Isbell this week in Manchester what a show, the sound quality was amazing absolutely loved seeing him again .. seen him before but the songs really hit !! I'm currently in Brussels on a few day away from the UK which made me comment, great vid
I always get new music insights from your channel. Whereas I already own and share your opinions on albums like Spoon's Lucifer On The Sofa, Wilco's Cruel Country and Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind (so I know we have overlap), but then you mention albums that are completely off of my radar like the Matt Sweeney & Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Superwolves or Bill Fay or Joe Henry (though I have the latter's collab with Billy Bragg). One of your past videos got me into the Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard collab album, Jay Bennett & Edward Burch - The Palace At 4am, and I'm pretty sure Beulah - The Coast Is Never Clear. I look forward to part 2. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this. If I turn one person onto the music that means everything to me, this will all have been worth it. Hope you enjoy the Bill Fay and Superwolves!
I'm a huge Joe Henry fan so I was delighted to see Civilians on your list. It is astonishing there isn't more mentioned about him in the vinyl community but in general too. He is not only a singer/songwriter of immense talent and a superb poet, he is also a much sought after and fine producer. I have a close friend who is close friends with Joe. I forwarded the clip of you talking about the album to my friend and he forwarded it to Joe who got it in a NYC taxi cab while on the way to do a benefit concert with Rose Cash and John Leventhal. He said " flattery is under-rated....The power of music. May it long keep us in song " So, I think he appreciated your remarks, very much. Love your show !
I can’t express how much this means to me. Thank you so much. I created this channel to try and shine a light on artists who i think deserve a wider audience and Joe Henry fits squarely in there. I’ve been listening to Joe’s music for decades and a song like “Our Song” has been there for me during difficult times. Please thank your friend for sharing this with Joe. Again, it means so much.
My top 10 albums of 2024: 1. News of the Universe by La Luz 2. Never Made Much of a Lover by Mac Cornish 3. The Past is Still Alive by Hurray for the Riff Raff 4. No Name by Jack White 5. Cincinnati Ohio by Wussy 6. Revelator by Phosphorescent 7. Happiness Bastards by The Black Crowes 8. Bright Future by Adrianne Lenker 9. Passage Du Desir by Johnny Blue Skies 10. Trail of Flowers by Sierra Ferrell
@@TheLongCut1 I saw Ry Cooder on that "Prodigal Son" tour at the Moore Theater in Seattle. An indelible night. That was in the Before Times (2018?), and I haven't spun it since. It's about time.
Spoon's "Hot Thoughts" is probably my least favorite album in their catalog. I would probably put it ahead of "Telephono", but it was a bit of a disappointment. However, "They Want My Soul" is probably my favorite record by them. That is the one that is having the anniversary release. It is a tight collection of tunes, and the band sounds really energized on that one. 'Inside Out' is an all timer Spoon song for me.
These are real nice finds, I tend to stereotype older musicians as "best material behind them". Much thanks.

What a great list. I’m going to stream that Joe Henry album on my drive across Minnesota tomorrow.
Good list. May I recommend Petty’s Echo? Such an under rated gem

Forgot to say ... one artist for the rest of your life (and I love Dylan too) the correct answer will always be Springsteen 😃

Late albums by Judy Collins, Bob Weir, Chris Hillman and Graham Nash all deserving of consideration
Not Dark Yet is a masterpiece. Lucinda Williams did a wonderful cover, which is somewhere on RUclips.
Agree. An all-time great song.
BPB certainly played with Cash when Cash covered I see a Darkness.
Cruel Country is currently sitting at #2 in my Wilco rankings
Dylan yes. I remember thinking Time Out of Mind was going to be one of his last lps. lol
Haha. I remember thinking the same!

This is a solid list. Many records for me to check out. Thanks for posting it!
Great list!
A couple off the top of my head:
Tree of Forgiveness by John Prine
The Prodigal Son by Ry Cooder
Agree on that Prine record. Need to check out the Ry

What? No 'Wrecking Ball'? 😲
Keep an eye out for part 2 😊

I gotta spend time with They Want My Soul - will do so this weekend.
