Good question! "un" standards for "Tanween" (ــٍـ/ــٌ/ــًـ) I mean "double dhamma, double fatha and double kasrah". We add these with words when they are without (الـ) like 'كِتَابٌ' (Kitabun), We can read this as 'kitab' as well as 'kitabun' with "un" but specially when the word comes in the end of the sentence, it is sounded and read by Arab without "un" for example: هذا كتاب. (Hadha Kitab) ذلك ولد. (Zalika Walad) But we can read these with "un" as well, no problem.
