@@SamTheBeardGuy I always wondered why I sometimes prefer Native Instruments Acoustik Piano (13-ish gigabytes for the same four pianos) over this (250-ish gigabytes with three mic positions). This describes the weaknesses of this sample library deftly.

At 11:56 that sounds like the Basia song Yearning. Yeah.... I'm into Jazz too. I could identify chord progressions easily.
I've had the Bösendorfer 290 in the Goliath collection for years and years. I usually had to do some serious EQ to get it to cut through the mix. Hard to use. I also hate the interface, wished they'd never ditched Kontakt. So, I never bothered with any of their newer stuff. The Komplete Pianos are pretty good, but for me, Keyscape just wins. I don't use anything but Keyscape now, it just suits my music with the way they sound, especially with the shimmer reverb.
I wasn't in the EastWest world when they were using Kontakt. I don't hate the PLAY interface, I've gotten used to it over the years. PLAY feels good using string stuff, it doesn't feel as good doing string stuff
The Bösendorfer 290 Platinum is my favorite from Eastwest but I simply stopped using it because of the inconsistency in sustain pedal that cuts out during play, I don't know how to explain it.
yeah I didn't have that issue but that is definitely frustrating
How does Eastwest's libraries compare to Spitfire's/Orchestral Tools quality wise? Which one would you use in your compositions?
Honestly I haven’t used as much of spitfire orchestral stuff as I’d want to. Their stuff is so good.
Have you reviewed any of the pianos in the UVI Sonic pass?
Not yet, but I'm trying to get my hands on them
So is it a matter of the playability over the sound for these? Is the playability aspect something a seasoned player would be able to recognize rather than someone more adept at programming midi in comparison? I like the sound of the Bosendorfer and Bechstein, but notions of outdated playability go over my head. For me it's this or VSL at many more times the price...
Mix of both. Velocity's doesn't seem as layered, and that's audible.
Totally agree. I just couldn't connect with the EW pianos. LOVE Pianoteq, VSL (especially the CFX), Keyscape, Noire, etc. but those EW pianos are just not competitive with what's available these days.
EW used to be the kings when no other company had the budget to mic up equipment. those days are far gone

@@headsman2023totally! I’m blown away how playable it is for a sample library, it’s just so responsive and almost feels like it comes alive like a real or modeled piano.
I have the EW Pianos from my days of buying nonsense (long time ago, this library is old... very old...), not from the cloud and I definitely agree, even as a beginner I found out now it's terrible and I don't want to play it. It's inconsistent, very few dynamic layers with perceivable transitions and bad dynamic range (on ppp side), and given its size it's unbeliable. Totally inefficient use of space. I must buy something else :)

You probably wouldn't get EW Composer Cloud just for the pianos. If I just wanted the pianos I probably would get Pianoteq. However, it is a good package for those of use dipping our toes in orchestral.
definitely not. If you have composer cloud for the strings then those are great, the pianos are just a thing that come with that maybe be worth using to someone.
Each ewql piano note is three dimensional, and rich. The best piano vst I've ever owned.

How long does it take one to achieve the gift of playing piano this good?
Lots of practice and listening! I've been playing for 27 years, but it's all about getting to a point where you can enjoy playing. I know people that love playing music and all they can play is simple chord progressions, it's just about enjoying the music.
Unfortunately these EastWest pianos are really just a waste of money and a waste of computer resources in today's day and age of piano libraries.
