Yessss! Forgot to mention that. I use a broken needle too (no point) with the industrial. I’ll pin this comment as it is so pertinent. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 😊
I always thread my serger at home from scratch because it’s quick and easy. At work, on the industrial sergers, I always tied on my threads and pulled them through. My favorite serger was 103 years old and had the most gorgeous stitch you’ve ever seen!
Great video …especially the close up of the first looper! The most impactful advice I got on a serger was to thread in order. Can’t tell you how many times my frustration level compelled me to pack it away lol. I learned long ago in a serger class for my second machine, that if the order of threading is not maintained, the Serger is not threaded right…I have not had any problems since! I love a happy ending 😂
I’ve been thinking about getting a serger for years. I see so many wonderful garments made so much quicker but I was afraid of threading the darn thing. Thanks for this video
I was afraid too but I bought a used one and I‘m happy. There are a lot of videos out on RUclips for a lot of diffrent brands. Maybe look for videos before buying a serger.
I took my old pfaff to a repair guy recently and he told me the best way to extend the life of your machine is to remove thread dust with a vacuum. Never use forced air. Just take a small hand held vacuum and suck the extra dust. Your machine will sew much better and you can delay any repairs. Your video is great! I’ve been thinking of getting a second hand serger. You make it all seem so easy
@@DowntownTailoring You can get a set of attachments for a regular vacuum cleaner that is very helpful for cleaning sewing machines and computer keyboards
Since finally learning how to sew with my serger I love it! It really makes my work look professional. I learned from you how to change thread and it was a game changer.
I'm embarrassed to say that after buying a serger more than 15 years ago, I've never used it. You've convinced me. I'm taking it to have it cleaned and then I will finally learn how to use it.
This video was the only one I understood and I've watched plenty. No matter how many times I have threaded my serger the threads keep breaking so the frustration kicks in and the serger is covered up and put in the corner. OH and I have never touched those side knobs lol maybe that's the problem huh. Thank you for this video and I can't wait for the next one.💐💐
You forgot to say how fun it is to use the serger! 😀 There is never enough serging 😊 . Great detailed video ! 🩷🤗 I would just add that when at the start when you tuck in the tail, I make a few stitches, lift the foot ,grab the tail ( all the same as you did) then pull straight back just a little then wrap around. I do this as sometimes you can get a bubble of thread lol.
Ive veen sewing for 48 years and have used a seger fir the last 28 years and still when for some reason i need to thread it i still dread the job. Btw great idea to serge the corner.thank you for these grear tips
I'm terrified of my Serger! 😂I bought it in 2019 and just opened the box a few days ago. Thank you for the helpful tips. So happy I found your channel. I found you through your other ASMR channel, which I really enjoyed!
Thanks so much. I had just gotten my serger out of the closet to redo some slacks and it had the wrong thread. Almost didn't do them!! I had no idea we should turn all the tension dials before we thread, although I do it for the sewing machine. Great video. Those inside corners I thought were impossible, but I guess not. Never thought to try 4 colors of thread to see which one was the problem. Just played with the dials till I would give up and just do it. Can you show a rolled hem???
Please, more lessons on the serger. 😅 Your demonstration was very, very good. I finally see how to thread the darn thing. I haven't used mine in years because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Now, I know! Also, I was given a hemming machine that tailors use. It only hems clothes. It came with Japanese instructions. Will you do a video on yours? ( I saw you use one in an older video). Please show how to thread and use it? Thank you!❤
when to use three threads.. and when to use four?I found your video super helpful! me and my serger is not on the best term but I think I can do it now.
Hi. I am planing to open a tailor shop for alterations. Your videos helping me a lot thanks for that. For that kind of business which machine do you recommend for serger: an industrial one or like the one you are using in this video? I saw some serger machines also do coverstitch too. Do you think that kind of machines will handle an alteration business needs?
What is the model number of your Kenmore serger? The design looks very similar to my Hobbylock 776 serger of which there are very few videos of. Maybe I can find more videos with sergers of your brand. Also, I brought a (used) serger to sew & hem knit fabrics. Do I need to use thread that stretches on knit fabric, so that it won't break when the fabric is stretched?
Your videos are so helpful! Im an aspiring tailor, I have a decent bit of sewing experience and have been watching your videos a lot, but do you have any advice for actually starting work as a tailor?
Hi! Trying to get a job in a place that does good tailoring, even if the pay isn't that good, it will give you word of mouth experience. Did you notice how I mentioned in this video that I know the resistance to reduce the tension? It's because I've worked with a lot of people. The longer you can work, the better, but 2 to 3 years will give you a better understanding and idea of what the best next move is. I hope this helps 😊 Good luck!
Ma'am, I've never said this before. But you are honestly the personal mentor I've always wish i had. Thank you for the detailed content. i just quit work due to depression and anxiety. Your videos gave me so much hope hope to pick back up the the things i give up on. thank you 🫂
@@DowntownTailoring sorry I was commenting on another video as much have switched over to yours in my playlist 🤣🤣🤣 great video i do think sergers are dark magic and scary as hell
I bought a serger a couple of years ago. Have had a time threading, however, I really enjoy taking in hand-me-downs as well as making skirts and dresses more fitting. Yes, it would be great to see more videos using a serger as well as reiterating the stitching . As always - Thank you for making awesome videos!💕💃🏻
A helpful tool is a dental floss loop for threading the loopers especially the first one.
Yessss! Forgot to mention that. I use a broken needle too (no point) with the industrial. I’ll pin this comment as it is so pertinent. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 😊
I LIKE seeing a machine that is obviously well-used.
Thanks! It’s an oldy one. But still woks great!

I don’t remember the brand. It was one I hadn’t seen before.

Yes! This☝️☝️☝️ 1,2,3... that's right. Keep the order. Thanks for sharing this tip!
Just yesterday I was creating new swear words trying to thread that looper! Ugh! You're so patient! God bless you. Not one swear word!!
😂😂😂 I have my share of swear words, too. 🤫 I just don't want YT to black list my video. 😭😭😭
I’ve been thinking about getting a serger for years. I see so many wonderful garments made so much quicker but I was afraid of threading the darn thing. Thanks for this video

Just do it! You will be surprised it's not as bad as it looks
Your missing out ! 😊 Go for it! Remember it's woman ( or man) over machine everytime! 😀🩷
Muy buen trabajo felicitaciones saludos y abrazos de Bogota Colombia gracias

Thank you so much for this, I’m so intimidated by the serger but I might just try it now! 😅
You can do it! 😊
Thank you I just purchased a used serger this has been very helpful
Glad it was helpful! 😊
A great intro to serger use; I had one, never used it on the kinds of projects I sew, but loved the video. Thanks, YVR
Glad you liked it! Maybe one day!
