Um, Ed, there's these things called protective vapor masks...we like you alive, my man...
Right?? I'm like. Please get a respirator my dude
Someone should send him one now.

someone should send a fanmail with protective vapor masks
Just want to say how much I appreciate all of you. But an extra shout out to Ed. He is so supportive, his first reaction to the snakes having eggs is if the mom is OK. He is such a female supporter. My daughter loves this channel and I love showing her what a wonderful 50/50 relationship is. Her dad is great but hate snakes..
This is such a sweet message, I hope Ed gets to see it! He has blossomed from the "absolutely refuses to be on camera" shy guy, into a natural presenter and educator - with a great sense of humour. A darn fine role-model to young people of all genders!
I love Ed! The channel wouldn’t be complete without him.
My fiancé and I always say 100/100, because half is never enough 😂! Also Ed is the type of guy I definitely would trust my drink with but I feel like his kind heart stretches out towards multiple animals. It’s a big reason we admire Ed very much as a person and a influencer!
Men really get praised for the absolute minimum...
@@jadecoolness101why so negative, praise is praise, just let people show their support
I would love to see a 2024 comparison video of which snakes you paired, who actually laid, and who successfully had babies, I think that would be so interesting!
I fully agree!
we definitely need yearly recap videos, I'd personally like them about 40 minutes long but I know not everyone has the time to tune in for a 40 minute vid
I agree!!
That's such a great idea that wld def help us understand how snake breeding goes!
That would be interesting...🤔🥰
If anyone is wondering they don’t feed them before brumation because their metabolism slows down and if they eat the food can rot inside them
What do wild snakes do? I assume they brumate as well, but do their instincts tell them not to eat before brumation? Or do they all end up with the chance of food rotting within them?
@@gabriellaburke6915
Great question! I want to know too!
I follow some herpers on YT and often when they find snakes beginning of spring they are skinny. Not to forget that in cold winter food is scarce. So I guess the whole cycle is natural in the wild and it's us humans who had to learn to copy it successfully.
@@gabriellaburke6915 Probably the same case as Raziel at 10:19 where they just stop eating on their own as the changing season affects their hormonal activity
@@gabriellaburke6915 They instinctively stop eating but also, as animals start to enter hiberation and limit going around looking for food, they're also just not likely to find food either.
This is why some people find their pet snakes have hunger strikes that start in October or November through Winter even if they are not brumating them - the snake instincts tell them Winter is coming, can't eat in Winter, stop eating now.
1:14 When Ed forgets his lines 😂
We still love you Ed!
Took me a minute to realize that you started brumation awhile ago and just now posted a video of it.
Yes, most likely this was filmed in December! I was wondering if we were getting a brumation video this year, but I’m glad we did.
Most of their videos are weeks to months after they recorded it. They're busy folks! It's handy for egg videos and rescue progressions but it is a little confusing otherwise lol
@@Ksweetpea Yeah I kinda wish they'd maybe include a "this video was recorded on [insert date]" thing in the videos
Almost thought we weren’t gonna get this video this year. They should all be coming out of brumation in the next month or so. Hopefully we get the breeding plans video soon too since there should be so many new hognoses breeding this year!
Me to
That lavender cornsnake is the first snake to actually LOOK LAVENDER on camera! Now I get what the hype is about! xD
That's so wild, literally LAST NIGHT while I was tossing and turning in bed, I had the sudden realization, "hm, Snake Discovery hasn't posted their yearly brumation video yet." Guess it's here now! 😂 Nighty night, snakes!
Lol, I’ve been thinking about it too
Regarding Busty Rhonda’s last chance to prove she’s fertile, maybe she can be paired with Lumpy to see if she’s actually able to produce eggs? She did have babies one year but it was three babies with Christopher Turk. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you Busty, you can do it!
She had babies one year? Do you remember what year?
So I looked it up and she did lay eggs, but I don’t think they ever hatched, hence the questions about whether or not she’s fertile
@@lindsayschmidt2177She did have three babies one year but one was really really small and another had kinks. One was healthy. The rest of the clutch went bad.
So even though some eggs hatched, iffy.
Agree. Lumpy's a champ.
Might be remembering wrong, but didn't Busty's sisters also lay weird eggs and have weird offspring?? I remember there were girls and boys that had genetic Stuff floating around in their bloodlibe. 🤔
Ed! You need a fume mask when you're being a pokey boy!
Also, I absolutely love those RUB TUBS.
I met my first RUB (Really Useful Boxes) TUB in the USA 15 years ago. I'd never seen one before, and we decided to go to a wonderful place for people from overseas to visit in the USA - Walmart... In Walmart, I saw a display of boxes. A whole wall of RUB TUBs.
I thought they were wonderful, I'd never seen such sturdy boxes so I bought a little set of 4 nested boxes (I had to fit them into luggage), but they worked really well because I used them to store all the fragile stuff I'd bought.
About a year later I discovered they'd finally made it to Australia!
I have lots now. Never been disappointed in their sturdiness. Great choice in Snek-tubs. I, too, have many of them with holes. :)
Are the US ones made in the US? I buy them all the time in the UK and they proudly say they're made here (which is rare). I don't buy any other boxes since finding them, they just have that amazing quality that makes all others feel like paper cups.
@@Lorqu1n I think they are made in the UK, it's just that I'd never seen them in Australia.
They really are the absolute best boxes available. Doesn't matter how many you stack, the bottom one never looks taxed. The lids never buckle under the weight of tubs above them (and I now use mine for fabric, so they can get pretty heavy).
I'd like to say, I am proud of Ed! He's come out of his shell so much since the channel started. We love seeing him on screen (and Emily of course), but I remember when Ed was faceless and refused to be on camera. Now we see him every video and it's awesome how far he's come! We adore you Ed and Emily!
I Love Ed! Emily " What are you doing Ed? " Ed " What you told me to do" 😂❤
Ed, they make fans and fume extractors when dealing with fumes. In fact you may want such a system as part of an isolation system for potentially sick animals, surrenders, etc.
Hey, I don't want to freak you guys out, but please consider doing any plastic burning outdoor with protective masks. I get it, I too used to be lax about burning plastic.
Sincerely, a fan who works in Chemo and sees a lot of people with job exposure to burning chemicals. It's all fun and games until... it isn't.
Emily: "Ed, can you explain what we're doing?"
Ed: IDK, wife said, to do, so I am doing. Lol love you guys
My thoughts exactly 😂
2:44 "Brumation will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start" -- the jokes for FitnessGram Pacer Test always make me chuckle 😂 (and recoil in horror at my own pacer test memories 😅)
Frrr😂i agreeeeeee
I once got trampled after tripping during mine 😭, You're so right about recoiling in horror
Yeah I was more having this video in the background, and when I heard fitness gram pacer test my heart skipped a beat. Whoooo hooo to never having to do that again but the trauma remains.
Stupid question, in NZ we have something called "the beep test" - where there's a pair of lines a certain distance apart, and the beeps are timed so you have to run between the lines before the beep sounds again, and once you can't, that's your score
Is this the same as this FGPT just with a weird name?
@@philippak7726 not a stupid question. Yeah it’s exactly that, the only potential difference is that in the FGPT every minute that goes by the beeps get closer together so you have to run faster overtime.
those Chinese beauty snakes sure live up to their names.. they are stunning!
I know I was thinking the same thing.
“I dont know you just told me to start poking holes” 😂
I’ve been wondering about the Lucy hognose!! It’s been so long, glad to see he is doing well!
Kinda. Let's hope he's eating in spring!
I hope he makes it 🐍😬
Pickle rick in the technical difficulties shot! I love that years later you still do that.
I love your vids so much
I love this channel. Brumation videos in the spring, hatching ones in the fall/winter 😂😂

0:20 maybe a good fan and ventilation tube
A friend of mine suggested either doing this in a place with good "warehouse ventilation" or outside, otherwise I would recommend a respirator/mask meant for toxic fumes if you're going to be melting plastic. As others have said, we prefer y'all alive!
Let’s appreciate how far Ed has come 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
8:26 Busty Rhonda did breed successfully, I believe 2 years ago. 14 eggs if I remember correctly
Edit- video is "Busty Rhonda the Hognose Finally Laid Eggs!!"
Did they hatch though? I think they might have all slugged out, hence her still potentially being infertile.
@@lindsayschmidt2177just rewatched the hatching video. 3 babies made it through incubation
Ed and Emily have come such a long way since doing videos in their kitchen. They deserve all the success they achieve. Two people truly meant to find each other. Not everyome would be into the reptile world as heavily as these two. Its awsome to watch how they grow their dreams
I'm hoping that the cooler weather outside will cool the area of the zoo and the legless lizards give babies this year.
Omg legless lizard babies would be so cool!
So cool! I remember when u guys used to incubate in the cupboard room and brumate ur snakes in your fridge! You guys have come from so far!! ❤ I do miss the old house though
@snakediscovery team, you asked me to remind you about releasing 2025 calendar photos onto your IG (and any other socials) once they're no longer the current calendar photo. So here I am, doing just that! And I'm 18min shy of turning 45, and thought I'd let you know that, when I grow up, I want to be like you guys! Seriously, I went from "all animals are cool, including snakes and lizards" to "I have a her[ and invert bucket list of animals I'd love to add to our family one day, and it was your passion, easy-going educational style, and boundless enthusiasm that made the difference - thank you Emily, Ed, stepdad Phil, and the whole team!
Omg happy birthday!! I hope they post the photos!
I think you meant 15. I think. But I just wanna say that if you really did mean 45, I love it! "When I grow up" you never grow up! Like seriously, if you wanna be happy, you will never grow up. You'll keep part of your kids side with you for the rest of your life and it'll be amazing
Kat, if you want to go into animal care, take biology classes and focus on doing well - not so much on tests, though test results are important - but on learning as much as you can about the biologic sciences. You'll notice that Ed and Emily know not only their individual snakes, but their species, their genetics, their natural environments & their ecosystems. They also know what happens to an ecosystem when they're not a native species.
Learn biology not as a seperate thing, but as system built into the weather, the geology, the neighbouring ecosystems and what the past teaches us about their present.
And learn the biology with a whole heart. With the enthusiasm you have in your message here. The world needs more people like Emily, Ed and their team. If your parents can get you to an expo, collect business cards. Especially cards from people near you. Talk with your parents before you go - you're nearly 15 (I think that's what you meant) and you're old enough to start looking for holiday jobs and after-school jobs. If you have someone physically close enough to you for you to commute to, let your parents talk to one of the members of the staff, and you ask about what it takes to work in a place like that.
If your parents give the okay, ask if they have part time work available!
@@lisachiappetti6092 Nope actually 45! You're so right, growing old is inevitable, growing up is entirely optional! Learning to reconnect with my childhood me this last few years has done me the world of good!
@ Bless you, this is all wonderful advice, and I hope that it's seen by lots of young people who are interested in animal sciences! I am actually 45, and after too many years working in IT, I've been retraining in canine behaviour. I always wanted to work with animals as a kid, but there weren't so many ways to discover all the wide variety of fields that actually covers. I'm so glad that young people have resources like Snake Discovery, and generous people like you, that are opening up windows into the diversity of animal sciences! I hope you don't feel like you've wasted your efforts, it's so kind of you to have put so much thought and effort into your comment!
I think you're gonna need a third brumation station.
Hope we get to some more of the Green tree Pythons this coming year. Barely ever get to hear anything about the Indigos either.
Man so excited, i feel like ive been waiting for the lavender and the sunburst for a while but idk my sense of time is off lately hahah. Oh man the lucistic snake is gorgeous.
Casually saying, "I put my snakes into the fridge so they can go to sleep!" would certainly be thrown questioning looks to those who have little to no knowledge of herpetology 🤣
I litteraly had to google "what is brumation?"....i still dont fully understand
@@heatherwhite2674 to oversimplify it for the sake of making it easy to understand, it's basically the snake version of hibernation, we're there metabolism slows way down and they sleep through the coldest parts of the winter. They do it because going through it is necessary for a lot of snakes too be able to breed successfully
@@auroraourania7161 I get that part of it, but dont they burrow underground? So they would be warmer?
Im watching this next to my fiance and i can confirm that was his exact reaction. Had to pause to explain it 🤣
So is brumation only necessary when you want to breed snakes?
Was waiting for an upload!! Even googles what days snake discovery upload 😅 I think I have a problem 😂x
I agree with the person asking for time lines. I really enjoyed the video this year that went from laying to hatching. I want to follow the whole process. But it is hard sometimes. I get attched to the eggies when you mark them and want to see what happens to every single one. It would be awesome if you could make a video that goes from pairing, to laying, to hatching to putting the babies into bins and an update when they are a little older. ❤
Hi Emily! We were so happy to see Umbra and Vorhees! Aisling can't believe how chunky Umbra has been getting, but it makes sense with her appetite, haha! And Vorhees looks as sweet and loving as ever! Can't wait to see some new grandsnakes in the next breeding season!
Loved the music on this video. It was so relaxing, especially when paired with the video.
Can you start mentioning what month it is when you make videos like this. Since your videos come out months after you film, we can't track a timeline
I believe they usually put the snakes in brumation around December, and usually bring them out around end of February/early March.
this would be helpful!
Goodness how old is Mr. Wilson? He's so beautiful too ❤
The bullsnakes are both so beautiful. I'm sad that they aren't a more popular specie because they're such incredible friends when you eventually gain their trust. All pituophis are gorgeous and far from being as cranky as people make them seem. It was so hard to find one here in the UK
I hope that all the snekks have a nice brumation time=3 Woshing you a wonderful week=3
Everyone at snake discovery does an amazing job not only with the animals and facilities but also with video editing. Hopefully everyone recovers nicely from burmation and breeding and the babies eat well
I was fortunate enough to go by your location a few weeks ago w/a friend. What a wonderful public space you have. Loved seeing so many of your "Slither kids", met you, but not Ed & many of your people that were there working. Thank you for bringing out a few animals we could meet and touch while you told us a bit about them. 🐍
Such a good experience. I know I will be back! ⚕️
EDIT: BTW, Ed... An N95 mask works well for paint fumes. Maybe you should try one when the replacement bins arrive 😉
You and Ed made my life so much HAPPIER!! I love you both so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!
I love you as I’m so excited that the snakes get such loving homes
First love yalls content, you've inspired me to get reptiles. Hope to soon.

Cant wait to see the full thing!!
Those boxes by Really Useful Boxes are fantastic. The handles lock down firmly AND there's a hole to add an actual lock. I use these for office storage mostly. I can see how they'd be great for snakes, too!
Assuming this was filmed a few months ago
Once again I love how they set up their videos we just stopped getting egg cutting videos and we should be getting more egg-laying videos here shortly because spring is right around the corner
I love that we can get snake eggs pretty much all year
Yay!
Been watching since like 2018 I love brumation time!! ❤❤❤
I looove Brumation Day! And when they get out of Brumation! Wish the video was longer ❤️
In sure having the new warehouse has been helpful with extras space. Nice to see the snakes have their own place this year..
Yep. Brumation here we go. Wake me in March.
Cleanest outro ever!

Gn lil sneks!
I dig the music choice; super chill 😌👌
I love y'all so much I don't usually get to comment on videos but I love y'all so much my mom let me
Ooh, excited to hear about the lavender corn snake!
So excited for the breeding season! Can’t wait to see who’s breeding with whom!
Lightly crumpled paper towel sheets work pretty well for hides for the bigger snakes going into those type of transport/brumation totes. It’s just my opinion but I think they’re happy when they can curl up and hide under something. We have different species that like to hide under paper towels like a regular hide.
Love your videos ❤❤
It's that time of year already? Y'all have kept us so busy with baby vids that this year seemed to sneak up on some of us! Excited for what's to come!
So could you use a animal friendly pain to mark them with a dot? Just curious. Like what they use on queen bees to mark them in different colors every year. That way you don’t have to work harder.
Oooh no!! Their snake camp is officially closed.... I guess this brumation season will be like our COVID lockdown..... For the snakes
I can’t wait to see all the beautiful babies ❤️!!
I was wondering if we were going to get a brumation video this breeding season! It’s always fascinating to get a glimpse into what snakes will be breeding this year. They must be getting ready to come out of brumation soon!
Goodnight Charlotte! Know you will miss playing with her and the other favorites!
Yay brumation
You guys are so amazing. You love you animals so much and I really enjoy your videos, keep up the hard work. You rock
Love your channel and lizards and snakes
I've never gotten here this early! I love your guys' videos!
I am guessing this was filmed a while ago, at what time a year do you get the snakes in brumation and at what time do you get them out? And whats the purpose of brumating them? Love yall at Snake discovery❤
They explained the purpose of brumation early on in the video. Emily will do a much better job of that than me so I won't get into that here.
They start Brumating end of October/early November. And Emily said they'll be ending their brumation in early March
So many faves! Now we just need to wait the rest of brumation. I hope it goes fast 🤞
Good night, snakies. See you in the spring.
The super Arctic skeleton made me gasp 😮 he was so pretty
His name is Skellington, like Nightmare Before Christmas!
In my next life, I want to come back as one half of an "Ed and Emily" type of couple. You guys are my heroes.
Emily and her obsession with lavender morphs is litteraly me ❤😂
I saw something I've been waiting to see since July!!! I'm so excited. 😊
I love your videos!!❤❤❤❤❤
Please bring back the garter snake baby videos! I miss them, seeing you guys dig out and find the babies is my favorite. ^_^
I love how well you guys take care of your snakes
Also when you said "I'm going to put Aspen in" I flinched because that's my name lol😂
Do you guys still have Moonstone (The corn snake) and if so are you planning on breeding her?
Can't wait for the second part of the fan mail
But imagine being a snake being in your enclosure but put in some cool place and waking up to see change in weather and season from winter to spring like what the f... happened
I’ve been watching this channel for 5years now
much love
Wanna see the new babies and new couples
wow! this is so cool
Early!! Love snake discovery. Hope to visit someday.
Hi there
Hi!
I too am hoping for my first lavander corn cluch this year. Mom is still very purple, with possible hidden hets, dad is less purple with a bunch of other genetics expressed.
I hope u guys got my gift ❤ I can’t wait for the next Fan Mail opening
Baby season is almost upon us again and I cannot wait 😍🥳
I've been watching you sense i was little and in about 2 years myself and my sister are doing a road trip to go to snake discovery im saying this bc I'm hoping in 2 years your lovely building will still be there lol
BRUMATION DAY!
Really Useful Boxes! Another hognose breeder I follow also uses those, and we bought a couple for quarantine setups. This company has no idea how many of us hognose people have bought those things. XD
These are my favorite videos like putting them in fridge and taking them out
You guys should get a walk in fridge! Then you can store all the feed products, and come winter, put entire racks into it. Maybe more efficient? Lol
Ed: You told me to poke holes
Emily: no, your line!
Ed: I only poke holes
