  • I've spent about an hour trying to replace a CR1616 battery in Armitron 45 / 7012 watch (may be 457012BLK and 45/7034 as well) - it would simply not turn on. I was ready to toss it in the trash before realizing you have to insert the battery in a very specific way so it fits under a plastic tab. This video is mostly to show the location of the tab.
How to setup time after reset: • Armitron 4 Button Digi...
NOTE: if any of the buttons do not work after you put the watch back together - you probably did not seat the metal tabs on the batter cover properly. They should sit between the buttons and the electronic board. If you press a button and see it's metal pin sliding under the tab - you need to loosen the cover and push the tab away from the button.
It would also seem that a strong enough drop may dislodge the batter from under the tab, resulting in a non-functional watch, which can be fixed by re-setting the battery in the required position.

This was so stressful I don’t think I couldn’t have done it without your video thank you! After we were done putting it back together my sister told me i should just get a solar powered watch and she’s not wrong

Thanks for posting this. I struggled with this for days when I could not get the buttons to work after reattaching the cage. And then I realized you must screw the cover back onto the back of the watch or the buttons will not work. After I did that, the buttons started working again.

Thank you! I'd figured out how to replace the battery on my own, but I wasn't sure what the "short out" instruction meant. Without doing it my watch didn't keep proper time with the new battery, but your video helped solve the problem!

Honestly, I've though shorting out does not do much. Nice to know the watch actually needs it!

@@maksym3d: Thanks for the video! I just replaced the battery on my daughter's watch which had been dead for several days; prior to shorting it out, even with the new battery the display was blank. Thankfully, shorting it out reset the watch and it recognized the battery - now it's up and running!

Thank you for the useful video. Followed this to replace the battery in my daughter's watch. The preinstalled battery only lasted about 3 months before dying. I did not first check to see if the original battery had become unseated until I'd already completed the replacement and thought to try this--oh well...

Oh well. At least you saved the watch from becoming a landfill :)

Fantastic video. Nice hands, too. This explained so much, got confused with my watch. Armitron does not make a watch you can actually fix the wrist band or do maintenance like normal watches; this was great.

    Useful video!
I tried the steps on an Armitron pro sports MS063(R) 45/7042 watch, and I was able to replace the battery by following your steps.
I used a plastic pry tool for computer repair to hold the battery in place by holding it in the lower left corner while I was installing the lightweight metal cage. I Installed the two small screws that hold the metal cage in place and adjusted it a little bit after installing by pushing the buttons and checking if the thin metal legs flexed all the way through. Then I installed the big metal sheet and the screws. I preferred not to do the reset thing; the watch still works so I am not sure if the reset is a recommended thing or a mandatory step. If something goes wrong with the watch, I will do the reset, but for now the watch is working and it started on the previous config that it had before replacing the battery.
    Thank you for your video!

thanks so much, i was able to use your video to replace my watch battery. :) that little tab! The battery was hard to keep in place!! I had to use one of the mini flathead screwdrivers from glasses repair kits to help keep it in place on the upper right hand corner while i was reattaching the cage, made sure the screen had come back on, then i held the cage for dear life until i had the screws in it to keep it secure. I then had to go around the edges to make sure the metal tabs were being pushed with the buttons. I had to use pliers, those little black screws for the cage are so small, Also, my buttons did not start working until after i replaced the main cover, but then no problems. I'm so glad I found your video! Thanks again!

Good post ! I followed your instructions carefully but when I replaced the back cover my "Mode" button failed to work. All other buttons worked fine.
Having gone through this rigmarole just to replace a battery, I doubt I will purchase any Cardinal products in future.

Sorry it did not work for you. The button not working is most likely the spring behind that button is not sitting quite right - they are visible around 8:40 mark. Might want to move them around a bit.
