As for the self-destruction, perhaps they placed it in case agents are captured or surrounded so they can commit suicide by bringing the enemy with them.
But they don't have the means to seal him back in. Eventually it will escape its confinement. The World can only be defeated with heavier ordnance. I imagine this happening in real life then President Trump would just order a MOAB or a tactical nuclear strike on that area.

The game said THE WORLD has unknown weaknesses and for once in the house of the dead series it was right since they killed it twice and it just kept becoming stronger each time to the point that their bullets didn't do shit anymore, imagine what would have happened if the world evolved once more.....yeah that would be catastrophic

I remember this boss. My god on the arcade version of this game this boss is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too powerful. Seriously we were so close to beating it but nope the darn thing was impossible to hit. I hate when Devs do this so a arcade title can rake in cash.
This boss is pathetically easy compared to bosses like the Magician or the Emperor. It has an easily noticeable weak point and the attacks give ample time to shoot and nullify except for like 1 or 2 attacks.

The Emperor was obviously a more powerful creature, after all, Magician was a creature that was resurrected while the Emperor was a brand new creature designed to be more powerful. Even after Emperor himself died, Goldman said, "In time, a successor will come." Now that successor was something that had been growing for at least 2 years underground. That successor was the World. I think you should know if it's more powerful than the Magician or not. I mean the thing literally has blinding light coming from its source, and could never be defeated if it had reached its final form.

Now, this topic returns to what @TheBeastAbraham said. Now, in Scarlet Dawn, he brought back 2 new and improved creatures made by Curien, Chariot and Hangedman, along with 2 of his own creations. One being the Preistess, and the other being the final boss called The Moon. The Moon, like The World, was impervious to gunfire and can only be slowed down by shooting his forehead. He could only be defeated by ramming a lightning rod into him. Although it was killed, it didn't blow up like every other final boss (sans Overkill) did. With that being said, I believe that if a 6th game does happen, it would probably happen after 3 since that is the last game in the storyline at the moment, this time, revolving around Thornheart again and, maybe, and this is what I think should happen, he was able to bring back the other final bosses back to life except the Moon, until the ultimate creature, The Devil is created. This, bringing the true ending to the series. Sorry I was stating the obvious during this, but I just felt like sharing my thoughts.

Goldman has finally left a message for James and Kate that the pandora's box is opened and nuclear missiles was cancelled launched and they still have the last hope to survive until death!
even if u get the bad ending, goldman's voice is as laid - back as it usually is (just it doesn't apply for the THOTD2 bad ending as goldman appears as a zombie and says the standard zombie phrase for that game...

i was playing House of the Dead 4 in an Arcade then when i got to the final boss and everyone was watching me then when i finished it's last life i put back the gun controller to it's place then watched the ending lol i thought it was finished but there was a second life alot of peeps walked away a few stayed to watch me finish it lol.
Hot take: I actually like this fight a LOT more than Magician's. It's a lot more creative and challenging than just watching the boss fly around and toss fireballs at you and the whole Ice Dragon gimmick in phase 2 is easily the sickest set of attacks in the series.
I think the fact that this boss is call the World and you defeat him kinda symbolizes that the world has been destroyed. Even though I'm still not sure, does House of the Dead portray an end of the world scenario?
