This is the only show that really expresses why self harm is done, it’s out of anger , its a punishment, it’s because of feeling guilty , cause you feel you deserve this pain because you’re not a good person or simply cause you’re not good enough, it’s because you feel empty and numb and you just want to feel something anything even if it’s pain it’s because you’re disgusted by yourself and because you hate yourself , This is how a person who self harms feels and this show showed it ❤️even if it was a big trigger for me
Agreed. It shows what is really going on inside your head all the wheels turning and what you want to do and how to release the pain and the guilt. The only other show that showed this well in my opinion was hollyoaks it didnt show her cutting or her cuts but it did show what's happening to your head and what's making you feel this way I think both shows are amazing.

For all those people who don't really understand mental illness it not as simple as people make out it not like a broken bone which heals in time it's ongoing i've have depression, anxiety and been self harming since I was 16 I'm now 22 nearly 23 everyone does it for different reasons I've stop self harming but sometimes I slip if life get too much for me and need a release or when I wake up some day, feel nothing at all just empty and I just need to feel something even if it is pain so I know I'm still alive inside. No it's not normal, I know that and I'm getting help but it take long then a few weeks, months, even years to feel like you're worth something when you've spent most your childhood feeling worthless so be careful what you say if you don't understand cause you're ignorants doesn't help people like us it make it worse.

How is it recycling old storylines if they consistently portray how mental illness and trauma don't just go away? Even people who don't hurt themselves anymore still have the itch to do so in times of extreme stress and anxiety. It would be unrealistic if they didn't bring up self-harm in this storyline since they have established his character as one who turns to hurting himself when things are really bad. Kudos to Emmerdale writers for having an intelligent and logical understanding of how self-harm functions.
